Brigands Abound

Why the River Kingdoms are called such has always puzzled me, given that rivers are only the second most plentiful resource in the region behind bandits and other ne'er-do-wells who find the largely lawless lands a safe place to practice their chicanery. Thus, no adventure set in the region would be complete without its fair share of cutpurses and footpads, and the Kingmaker Adventure Path is no exception. As such, it seemed only natural to include a number of these nefarious characters in the associated Pathfinder Battles: Kingmaker set coming out later this month.

All three of the set's bandit figures first appeared in print as specific lieutenants of the sinister Stag Lord (whose figure I showed off in the previous blog), but can easily stand in for any number of more generic baddies at your table. So while some may know them as Kressle, Dovan from Nisroch, and Auchs, their common rarity means that they can just as easily represent a whole band of Stolen Lands bandits, shadow rogues, or River Kingdoms ruffians (respectively). All three are humans, and thus stand on Medium bases.

Despite being river pirates, these highwaymen do most of their robbing on the roads that wind their way through the forests and plains of the Stolen Lands, and as such need places to lie in wait for their unsuspecting victims. The set's final piece of set dressing serves as just such a hiding spot! While it might seem unassuming on its own, the large bush figure can easily become deadly if you put the right threat behind it. It's got a relatively flat top as well, so you should have little trouble putting a figure atop the plant to represent that it's literally popping out of the foliage.

Finally, we need someone to keep these common criminals in line and bring them to justice. And who better to do that than the paragon of lawful neutrality herself, Pathfinder: Kingmaker's own Valerie. A rare Medium figure, Valerie makes a great PC miniature or NPC general, and her lack of specific insignia on her shield or livery means she can serve as both ally or enemy without looking like she's wearing some other soldier's armor.

Just one preview left before Pathfinder Battles: Kingmaker releases on October 24, so get your preorders in today!

„large bush figure“
where you afraid of violating Mounty Pythons IP when calling it a shrubbery?

and a very fine one it is indeed!

Will there be a second one available, so that we might place it beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get a two layer effect with a little path running down the middle?

Yep, two came in my case. I was missing a herring, though. I’ll go back and make sure it wasn’t loose in one of the boxes... :D

The only sad thing for me is that so far no Old Beldamne... here's hopping its one of the few not yet revealed.

Also Berk - did you actually get yours already?

I‘ll have to get an extra then, so that my rogue can practice „how not to be seen“ (advanced).

With the introduction of figures that are exclusively from the video game, one almost has to wonder if Paizo isn't planning on making an "Anniversary Edition" of Kingmaker.... say with NEW material and updated rules......?

Maybe....?
Possibly....?

presumably that'll be a 2e product.

Well, I think we're just missing two reveals at this point. Kingmaker is my favorite AP by far, and I've done my best to collect the Kingmaker themed minis from other sets. I think it's partly because of that that I'm a little underwhelmed by this offering.

I think I'm more underwhelmed by the tie-in to the computer game. I understand why it was done, but I don't necessarily agree with the decision. Those are valuable mini slots that could be used for more AP-appropriate minis (we don't have a Beldamne, anyone from Varnhold, or a jabberwock yet - for example). I suppose it's good that they didn't throw more goblins at us because of the computer game. (A lack of goblins was one thing that endeared me to Kingmaker - the kobolds imho had much more RP options).

I'll still likely get a case once my bank account recovers a bit. Maybe around the holidays.

I was opening my case yesterday, only got about 1/2 way through before my Kingmaker session (we're in book 4, was hoping the set contained some useful minis for that portion, but sadly the set seems very lacking of book 4 & 5. and 6 only gets the final boss).

Was a little sad at the over-inclusion of the CRPG companions over the AP's NPCs.

Yes, wanted a jabberwock. Baron Drelev, the Baroness, etc. (Maybe can swap in the royal court from CotCT, but I'll need them for Pitax now since we didn't get anything for that book either).

The Elf Ghosts are also from Book 6, if I recall, somewhere in Nyrissa's house.

Your list leaves off the three "demoted to unnamed NPC/generic bandit" staglord henchmen (Auchs, Doven, and Kressle), but they match the artwork.

Off Topic:

Jeff Alvarez confirmed, that the four STARFINDER Prepainted packs are noe in stock at Paizo.

@MARK MORELAND: Could you maybe do a blog with actual pictures of these?
Preferably the starships on the "Basic Starfield" flip-mat, so i can see if it makes sense to buy multiple copies of the two starship packs. ;-)

Thank you for your time.
