Pathfinder Playtest Preorder Update

When Paizo was planning this year's Pathfinder Playtest, we expected to exceed our own ability to fulfill orders on a timely basis, so we decided to use Fulfillment by Amazon. Unfortunately, Amazon's reports indicate that most customers will not be receiving their orders by tomorrow's release date. They shipped 3 orders on July 28, 3 more on July 29, and no orders on July 30 or 31. Today, they have shipped almost 10% of the outstanding orders, and they are continuing to ship through the night and into tomorrow. They have so far been unable to tell us when they will complete shipping. We will be posting updates as we receive them in this forum thread.

This delay doesn't impact preorders placed with retailers; most of them should have already received their products for release tomorrow. Paizo.com preorders for pickup at Gen Con are also unaffected.

We sincerely apologize for this delay. If your paizo.com Pathfinder Playtest preorder is being fulfilled by Amazon, we will be giving you $15 in paizo.com store credit in the near future.

PDFs of all of the playtest products will be available for free shortly after 6:00 AM Pacific time at paizo.com/pathfinderplaytest.

Sorry if this has been answered, but when and how will we get our 15$ credit?

I got my package from amazon today, but it's only got my adventure in it and not the rulebook. Should I be emailing Paizo or amazon? (or is this post enough?)

Definitely go through Paizo. Start a thread with the Order Number in the Customer Service boards HERE. Explain the problem and they will help!

I agree. The assumption being made is that people are still purchasing from Paizo after this. I am really miffed about this and my July stuff being shipped in August.

I will as Paizo didn’t screw this up, Amazon did. And with the case of every other shipping Snafu (I’ve had damaged and missing books, Customer Service went above and beyond in taking care of me) they are doing everything they can to make it right.

Any update on UK orders?

An estimated delivery date of 6 September is ridiculous. We should be offered a full refund so that we can source the books elsewhere.

If you preorder on paizo.com, you are buying from us; we are entirely responsible for ensuring that your order is completed. Amazon's only involvement in this case is that they are acting as a fulfillment service, using products that Paizo will provide specifically for fulfilling paizo.com preorders.

If you preorder on Amazon.com, you are buying from them; Paizo bears no responsibility for your order. Amazon's own preorders will need to be fulfilled with products they purchase from a book distributor (just like all other Paizo products they sell). While we will print enough to cover their distributor's preorder with us, we have no ability to ensure that Amazon or their distributor will preorder enough to cover their orders, and we have no control over (or insight into) when Amazon will receive those products, or when they will ship them.

If you ordered from Paizo.com, you use Paizo's customer service; if you ordered from Amazon.com, you go through Amazon's.

Went to gamestore for PFS play today. Looked longingly at all the Playtest materials they had for sale. I ordered through Paizo so I would have physical copies before 8/5/18 when my home game was gonna start building characters and passing the book around and not worry about a trip to gamestore to get materials. Oh well.

I'm not worried about a delay, but haven't seen anything yet and I'm slightly concerned.

First, check the packing slip—they may have split your order into multiple shipments. If you don't see any indication of that, then contact Paizo customer service: email customer.service@paizo.com, phone (425) 250-0800 (Mon–Fri, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific) or post in the Customer Service forums.

US orders are shipping all of the time, from lots of different distribution centers. Looking at delivery estimates for some that have shipped in the past couple hours, I mostly see August 6. (I was surprised to see one for August 5—I can only assume that Sunday delivery is somehow a thing for that particular destination.)

Assuming even distribution of orders in their shipping process, and assuming that most things are traveling at a similar rate, that suggests that a bit under 75% of domestic orders will arrive between now and Monday, if they haven't already.

While they still haven't given me an answer about when they expect to compete shipping, at the current rate, I would expect that the majority of the unshipped US orders will ship between now and Monday for delivery Tuesday, with some on Wednesday.

If you want to cancel your order, send me a private message with your order number. Please be aware that I'm looking at things from home, and cannot access Paizo's customer service tools, so the *only* thing I can do is try to tell Amazon to cancel your order, and for any given order, there's about a 75% chance that it's too late for that.

To be extra clear here: All I can do is try right now is try to stop the shipment, and there's only a 25% chance I can even do that. And even if I can stop your order, I won't be able to refund your card—customer service will have to do that next week.

Also, I will be checking in on PMs when I have the opportunity—I cannot promise that I will be able to act or respond immediately.

Mine showed up this afternoon in Wisconsin (USPS). Not the best packing job I've ever seen, but I understand there was some, uh, unexpected urgency in the shipping process. Otherwise, all is well.

Via usps informed delivery I can see that two packages are on their way, so perhaps the adventure is separate from the rulebook. One should've arrived today, but I'm having my mail held until Monday due to being away. The other is still doing nothing, so I suspect it hasn't yet shipped.

I've been skimming through the PDF and I can't wait to tear into the book itself!

The transparency and due diligence that you've shown in handling a situation completely out of your and Paizo's control is one of the many reasons I am happy to support you. I'll use my $15 credit to cover the shipping when I top off my collection of 1E books this fall. I usually get stuff like that from Amazon since I can grab used hardbound books at a steep discount. Instead, I will be order them through Paizo since this is 100% Amazon's fault.

Sunday delivery via USPS is a thing in Oklahoma, or at least my part of the state: I just got my order a couple of hours ago. That may have been my order you saw. :)

@Vic Wertz, Thanks for all the communication, this is what makes a company great, employees going above and beyond to try to fix things. I've had way worse delays with way less communication.

Shipping issues is why I cancelled all of my subscriptions. Shipping issues continue to mar your otherwise excellent customer service. I would not be so frustrated if I had any indication of exactly when my book (which by my email was supposed to be delivered over a week ago) will arrive. Something that is not possible because the shipping type is not trackable. Seriously guys, please figure this out. I would love to subscribe to Starfinder and Adventure Paths again.

Edit to share more details: Preordered on Paizo NOT Amazon.

Also, when can we expect this $15 credit?


The second of the two orders Amazon split this into is still sitting doing nothing according to USPS Informed Delivery. It first entered the system on August 2nd. Definitely a lot off the target date of last Thursday...

For what its worth Im in the US & I received my books 2pm Friday August 3. All things considered that was not to bad at all really. Luckily my wife was able to pick up the books for me on her way to meet me for our trip. I was able to read the books during the weekend after all. So sorry Amazon dropped the ball on this one and I am very appreciative of Paizo's transparency on this situation. Hopefully everyone else's delay is not as long as feared.

After I placed an order here for all of the playtest items, on a goof I ordered a copy of the softcover rulebook to pass around the table directly from Amazon.

The copy I ordered from Amazon arrived on Thursday morning. I've yet to receive an email that the order placed through Paizo has shipped.

Amazon, you move in mysterious ways.

tldr I'm very annoyed with amazon and feel foolish for excitedly hoping it would arrive a while day or two early. They haven't done the one thing the were supposed to and our first playtest will be a month later now due to holidays etc. (plus no-one wanted to faff around with pdfs).

I'm very impressed, as usual, with Paizo and Vic doing all they can. Thank you! I'd be happy if amazon refunded the shipping costs (more than twice the price of the rulebook since I'm in Europeland) but Paizo's prompt compensation is of course welcome.

Lastly I decided I could go for another book and ordered from the book depository. It was dispatched the same day and will be here tomorrow. Unbelievable that amazon doesn't even seem to have inventory in the UK. They have really dropped the ball on this.

Agreed. I ordered through Amazon UK, got an e-mail about problems with stock, so I cancelled it and ordered through book depository. That was Friday,and it's confirmed dispatched today. Really, really disappointed with Amazon UK.
