Pathfinder Playtest Preorder Update

Wednesday, August 1, 2018

When Paizo was planning this year's Pathfinder Playtest, we expected to exceed our own ability to fulfill orders on a timely basis, so we decided to use Fulfillment by Amazon. Unfortunately, Amazon's reports indicate that most customers will not be receiving their orders by tomorrow's release date. They shipped 3 orders on July 28, 3 more on July 29, and no orders on July 30 or 31. Today, they have shipped almost 10% of the outstanding orders, and they are continuing to ship through the night and into tomorrow. They have so far been unable to tell us when they will complete shipping. We will be posting updates as we receive them in this forum thread.

This delay doesn't impact preorders placed with retailers; most of them should have already received their products for release tomorrow. Paizo.com preorders for pickup at Gen Con are also unaffected.

We sincerely apologize for this delay. If your paizo.com Pathfinder Playtest preorder is being fulfilled by Amazon, we will be giving you $15 in paizo.com store credit in the near future.

PDFs of all of the playtest products will be available for free shortly after 6:00 AM Pacific time at paizo.com/pathfinderplaytest.

I too would like to know if there are any further "percentage shipped" numbers available.

Can Vic or someone give us an update?

I just posted in the other thread:

They have shipped about 40% of orders now.

They are telling me that everything they have spot-checked is scheduled to ship "between right now and tomorrow." But the fact that they only managed 10% in the last 12 hours, and have 60% yet to ship, doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence about that.

Thanks Vic and Sara Marie, I *thought* I was asking in the right thread.

They are also telling me that 6.5% of orders delivered so far today, and by tomorrow, 32% will be delivered. Given that they have only shipped 40% of orders, and many of them are international and definitely won't be delivered tomorrow, I don't have a ton of confidence about that either, unless they suddenly switch to same-day shipping, and I'm not seeing that in recent shipments I'm spot-checking.

Where do we provide feedback on the content of the playtest? For instance, on the content of the Rulebook?

Wow. Just looked at Book Depository and I can get the books within two days at substantially reduced cost to what I have already paid. Can Paizo advise if a full refund is possible for UK customers please?
Have ordered from Book Depository (for less than I paid Paizo) and requested a full refund from Paizo through customer service. Can't see why we should have to wait until September in the UK when other retailers have the products available now.

When I ordered mine it says, as it always does for cheapest shipping possible from Paizo, shipping time 11-40 business days. So as long as I get mine by mid September Paizo is covered from 40 working days after Aug 2nd. What did your shipping estimate say when you ordered it, is the UK normally substantially faster than NZ? Or did you pay extra for expedited shipping, if that was available?

Just an update: I ordered directly from amazon and earlier today finally got the email that my order was *actually* shipped and won't be here until the 6th. Even though I'm an hour away from the Bellevue, WA distro center, for some reason it is being sent from Georgia. Yay.

Even though people are reporting they are getting their Amazon orders just fine, it is by no means true of all of them, so it is not just the Paizo Fulfillment orders having problems.

Edit: To be clear; this is by no way a complaint to Paizo. Rather, it's the opposite. I did not even order through Paizo and I'm still being affected by whatever is going on. This whole debacle just seems to be an odd maelstrom of events that coalesced into a huge headache for everyone involved.

I'd really just like to take a moment to genuinely thank Paizo staff for all their hard work: Thank You. it's not as if they expected anything like this, and all of the constant updates and transparency is quite refreshing to see. I can tell that they are all trying to get this resolved as best they can.

To everyone who's complaining about whiners and complainers.
It is true that Paizo is dealing extremely well or at least trying to with this thing.
But as a CUSTOMER who paid well in advance to get a product august 2nd or close to that and now are facing the waiting time of extra month, we have every right to complain no matter whos fault it was. Paizo is responsible of this mess in the end even if the chosen delivery conpany messes up. I have personal experience of this for I work in customer service company who orders and sells building materials.

I fully expect to get at least shipping refunded for paying 100$ includng 26$ shipping just to see it f&!~ up. It doesn't matter if the fault lies in amazon or paizo. I paid to get a object in exact day or very close to that. Not one month late or more.
15$ store credit is nice gesture, but it doesn't really compensate this failure in deliverence.

This will surely work as warning example to Paizo to be better prepaired for the actual launch and future products.

Ps. As some tried pointing out kickstarter, totally different thing as was also pointed out. With that I know the risks and it might take much longer to get if I even get anything.

It's a shame that the books have been delayed, but at least we get $15 and the PDF's are still free to fill the void for the meantime.

Vic, any indication for the Benelux area?

A little but not really, Paizo does not control Amazon nor UPS/[insert mail delivery system of choice], they partnered with them and got burned.

That’s easy enough to solve. Don’t deal with Amazon.

Well yes really paizo is responsible for their customers. Sure they can try to get compensations from amazon as they honestly should be able to get with situation like this.

But however that goes it doesn't change paizos responsibilty to their customers.

I had my about to ship email on 13 July and it said 11 to 36 business days as usual but I queried on the forums whether international customers could expect to get products on or about 2 August and was assured (by Vic) that we could. That said I would have lived with a short delay. A month, however, during which one of the flip mats will become redundant for playtest purposes of following the timetable, is not acceptable to me.

Yeah, I mean I am super annoyed and bummed out, especially with it looking like September deliveries for the UK, however I can't be mad at Paizo because they've been so communicative and honest about it.

I'm also thinking I can use that $15 to pick up some flip-mat PDF's or the Fantasy Grounds modules for Doomsday Dawn (if sold via Paizo) so that's made me happier.

My biggest gripe now is if Amazon will still hold that charge for shipping, as for me as a UK customer I had to pay almost the cost of the books again in shipping as I wanted a guaranteed delivery. As others have said I have Prime so I could have ordered via Amazon themselves and not paid a penny in shipping so... yeah, give me my money back Amazon! (and don't charge my Paizo friends either).

And i do hope the shipping will be refunded for this debacle...

Well, just to add salt to the wounds...

I pre-ordered the Playtest Rulebook and Doomsday Dawn through Paizio, back in March. I've never been much of a Flip-Mat user, so I didn't pre-order the Playtest Flip-Mat.

Then, I went to PaizoCon, where GM Hmm and others pointed out how useful Flip-Mats could be. A few PFS games later, I was a convert, and I bought three. After using my Flip-Mats for several weeks for home games, I was a little disappointed that I'd missed an opportunity to buy the Playtest Flip-Mat. Three weeks ago, I noticed that they were still available for pre-order from Amazon, so I ordered one.

Guess what arrived yesterday from Amazon.

One shipped yesterday with a delivery estimate of August 16.

Thanks for the quick response!

As always, great customer service from Paizo.

Now, on to thoroughly read the PDFs!

I appreciate the head-up notice on the fulfillment problem - and the Paizo's pro-customer service response. I consider you folk are gentlemen in the British sense of the term. In my particular case, I am out of state away from home on vacation, so the late arrival of the physical book (soft cover) isn't affecting me as much - plus having the pdf online (still on-time for download) allows me to to work with the material while "out there" on vacation.

Not to worry, you can still use the flip mats and adventure, even with a slight delay.

I can't add the quotes directly here anymore (and I'm too lazy to do it manually), but you can have a look at the quoted material in this post, where I've answered someone else worried about the playtest timeline.

Why would you order anything from a company 6,000 miles away? The customs and postage alone will be enormous. Don't you have a gaming store anywhere even remotely near you?

I get all the Paizo books I buy directly from Paizo. They're set up to handle it perfectly. The postage cost is mostly offset by the free pdf for subscriptions. It all arrives in my account or at my door without further work from me.

It seemed sensible to also trust their warehouse staff with getting me the playtest books. There is no VAT or import duty on books, but there is on accessories. So the maps I sourced locally, the books I went with my usual source.

Ok I think I am in trouble for the Beta order. I don't show any order number for my order. I have 1 pending order on my account but I can't find a way to check what the pending order is as it does not show in order history.

Help!

The Playtest books will not show as a Pending order, because to Paizo's system they were complete when the information was handed over to Amazon Fulfillment. Look in your order history and scroll down to whenever you placed your order. (Mine's April 1.)

If you ordered from Paizo, you won't get any further notice until your package arrives. (My mystery Amazon package in Informed Delivery will be delivered today! I hope, I hope, I hope....)

This is really unacceptable. I already have Prime. Had I wanted to order from Amazon I would have. I chose to order from Paizo with the reasonable expectation that my books would be shipped or received by the day that the book was released. I would rather that the $15 be credited to my credit card.

Is there a way to get details in the Amazon order. What is sad is that even if I wanted to do so, I can't cancel the order now.

That Amazon would handle the orders from Paizo.com was communicated right from the start.

Quote:

I see that you are working with Amazon.com to ship preorders, and they are also taking preorders themselves. How does that work?

These are entirely separate things.

If you preorder on paizo.com, you are buying from us; we are entirely responsible for ensuring that your order is completed. Amazon's only involvement in this case is that they are acting as a fulfillment service, using products that Paizo will provide specifically for fulfilling paizo.com preorders.

If you preorder on Amazon.com, you are buying from them; Paizo bears no responsibility for your order. Amazon's own preorders will need to be fulfilled with products they purchase from a book distributor (just like all other Paizo products they sell). While we will print enough to cover their distributor's preorder with us, we have no ability to ensure that Amazon or their distributor will preorder enough to cover their orders, and we have no control over (or insight into) when Amazon will receive those products, or when they will ship them.

What's the "Amazon Standard Delivery" option?

We are working with Amazon.com for fulfillment because the volume of preorders is going to be very high. As part of this process, Paizo will share pertinent order information with Amazon.com in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Pathfinder Playtest preorders will ship from Amazon.com fulfillment centers in Amazon.com shipping boxes, but these orders will not appear in your Amazon.com order history. Paizo is providing customer service for all preorders—do not contact Amazon.com, as they will be unable to assist you.

I'm trying to understand why it takes 3 days to get to Italy, but more than 30 days to get to London. By the time it arrive the school summer break will be over and I will have no time to play.

Though I understand what happened and I am happy to see Paizo delivering great customer response to what seems to be a situation out of their control I do have a question. I will be going out of town this weekend and originally planned on having those books to read during the trip. Now I don't know when Ill get them nor can I plan to have someone watch my home while im gone. In the Event these books arrive while im gone and are damaged due to having to sit out over the weekend exposed to possible weather was there any provision planned on for replacement due to defect or damage? At this point if I cant have them today im hoping to not see them until next week. :P

Anyway I understand this situation sucks for everyone involved and I appreciate Paizo being upfront about it.

Depending on the delivery service used for your package it might be possible to have it either diverted to another address (family or friend who's going to be home while you're away) or held at a local pick-up center.

I'm not in current contact with the people who would know for sure—they're in meetings all day at Gen con, but I've sent an inquiry. That said, I was told yesterday that European retailers have received product. (Also, our UK distributor is Esdevium, not Asmodee.)
I don't have an answer yet, but I have been educated about Esdevium Games changing their name to Asmodee UK at the beginning of the year!

Our sales team met with Asmodee at Gen Con this morning, and the answer I have is "Asmodee UK got the Playtest books out to their stores a day or two late. The rest has now arrived."

Liberty's Edge

I just got mine in the mail (SoCal). As it had a USPS tracking #, it looks like Amazon delivered it to my local post office this morning, and a few pings on a shipping partner (presumably Amazon) in the LA area yesterday, which I believe is Amazon's major hub for the area.

Good luck to everyone, may yours arrive safe and soon!

Well I'm so glad I finally figured why I hadn't gotten my books. I looked all over the place yesterday and couldn't find any information. I even called the customer service phone#, still waiting to hear back from them btw. I'm truly disappointed as I have been counting down the days, I just don't understand why it was so hard to find any information. They could of emailed everyone who preorded the books! I felt like I had been left in the dark, very bad form Paizo. I understand its not Paizo's fault, but they are ultimately responsible for their customers satisfaction regardless of who shipped the books! I just be here waiting :(
