Here Comes the Cavalry

Friday, April 21, 2017

Happy Friday, everyone! This week in Pathfinder Battles, we start with the reclamation cavalry miniature, which is a large rare in the upcoming Crown of Fangs set, and is based off of art from the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path. I love the in motion look of this miniature. It makes an awesome miniature for any armored fighter, or cleric, war priest, or paladin of Iomedae!

Next, we have the reclamation sky cavalry, also a large rare miniature. This miniature is also based off of art from the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path. The detailing on the Hippogriff's wings looks fantastic, and who doesn't love a knight on a winged steed!

Finally, to round out the skeleton collection in this set, we have the skeleton cavalry, which is also a large rare. This guy is based off of the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path cover art for "Skeletons of Scarwall." I really like how the skeletal horse came out. The bones and the barding are spot on.

Hope you all enjoyed seeing these minis as much as I did getting them ready. Next week I'll be showing off the entire case incentive, so stay tuned!

I guess the container with the actual minis ist still held in customs, too bad. ;-(

The third link doesn´t work.
Also the headline has a typo. ;-p

I love the Skeleton Cavalry and would love to get my hands on a few more than one, but it´s probably the right rarity.

The Reclamation Cavalry looks good in the video, but it´s painted plainly enough to be an uncommon, which would have made much more sense (switched with the "Monstrous Skeleton"/Owlbear Skeleton).

I havn´t yet gotten a good enough look at the "Reclamation Sky Cavalry" mini, so i can´t say anything on details, but the rarity is probably in order. The fact that this Griffon looks so different (better actually) from the wild one in the "Dungeons Deep" set (#32) is a little unfortunate...

Still, these will be three useful minis, but to build an army they would have to be uncommons... ;-)

25 days till release and still 3 more previews till then, hopefully with pictures of actual minis. :-)

Have a nice weekend, Michael!

Fixed.

Isn't that supposed to be a hippogriff? not a griffon?

I wish the two horse pieces were more like uncommon but such is life. I can snag an extra single or two in secondary markets.

Love having additional cavalry pieces to add to my collection, especially ones as varied as these. Good show!

I am really looking forward to next week! Bring on the Court of the Crimson Throne! :D

You´re totally right!

Griffon (CR 4, Bestiary) & Hippogriff (CR 2 & Bestiary 2).
I hadn´t realized that until now, thanks for pointing it out. :-)

All three of these look great. (Sadly the first real enthusiasm I've had for this set).

I'd very much like an uncounted version of the first two down the track, if that's possible (I guess it may not be feasible without appropriate art, but it can't hurt to ask, hey?) :)

These are gorgeous. Looking forward to snagging a few.

I'm with Mine all mine...don't touch. One of each of these is simply not enough! Great minis, can't wait to see them in hand.

Comparing the "Reclamation Cavalry" render to the finished miniature, the wooden shield back was changed to silver.
It has only 5 colors: black, brown, red, white and silver.
Also it is interesting that the render doesn´t have a clear pole, but the mini has one.

The "Sky Cavalry" has 6 colors: light brown, dark brown, red, silver, white and yellow.
The pole is there in both the render and on the finished mini.

The "Skeleton Cavalry" seems to have only four colors: black, brown, gold and white.
It also has the pole (needed for the charge).

I´m counting 7 minis with poles and one on a vertical transparent sleet (Dream Spider).

The minis yet to be revealed are:

:

-Reclamation Squire
-Reclamation Knight
-Monstrous Skeleton/Owlbear
-Sial

We´ll probably get these next week.

The six Dungeon Dressings &
The case incentive.

Are we ever going to get the ability to order the gencon 2016 promos?

What do you mean by uncounted, Steve? ;-)

I would love to have more (4-6) of all three to build an army off, but i won't realistically get more than 2 of each.
Almost nobody will buy more than two cases to get more rares, but if these were uncommon, i know a dozen people who'd buy a case (or two) to get 3-4 (or 6-8) of each.

Thats a real missed opportunity imo, the "rare" rarity isn't good for direct market sales, but only for the secondary market, something neither Wizkids has anything from nor Paizo (besides to a small degree with offering singles).

Many people would like to build armies of general looking minis troops, but the two "Builders Series" blind single-mini boosters concept was a failure.
Blind Boosters are the right choice financially.

That being said, this set has an unfortunate choice for large uncommons if compared to the last two sets - RD had 2 horses, a Frost Giant & an enlarged Bugbear, Deadly Foes had 7 uncommon monsters you can use groups of, but CF has only the Giant Scorpion & Bone Devil you can easily use more of. 3 of the 4 large rares would have been more useful as uncommons...

I'm guessing "uncounted" was "unmounted" before the autocorrect devils got ahold of it. ^_^

Yep. I think that must have been what happened.

I'd like...dismounted (?) versions of the first two at some point, if possible.

It's a real bugger these are rares. Hopeully I'm home when the singles are available at Paizo.

Steve, it may be that this is not necessary, because i´m positive that the riders are removable very easily.

It was the case with The Rusty Dragon Inn #44 "Orc Rider on Dire Wolf": i wiggled the orc a little bit back and forth, until it came loose after a few seconds.
It was glued on a knob on top of the back of the Dire Wolf and had a hole inside it´s underside.
It even snaps back onto the knob and holds with no problems.

Wizkids often has the rider and mount produced as seperate pieces which are later glued together.

While it doesn´t looks like it will work with the Skeleton Cavalry easily, because of the stirrups (it could be that only the torso comes free), the two Reclamation Cavalry riders and the Dragon Rider look to be constructed from one piece.

I can´t be sure 100% until i hold them in hand, but it seems very likely.
Of course you´d have to buy two pieces then. ;-)

I will certainly try to seperate them (if it really looks like it can be done), but i normally receive my case 3 weeks after the US release date and won´t be able to try until then.

Cheers, Marco

The riders will probably be a little too bowlegged to serve as their own minis, though; my read of Steve's post suggested that he wanted the riders available as their own minis.

I think along the same lines as well. Attack Wing is non-blind but the price per figure seems higher than what I'd pay for similar items on the secondary market.

I know it isn't everyone's favorite, but blind seems to work best.

Yep, again. :)

Bowlegged wouldn't be my biggest objection. Anything remotely resembling "craft" is a non-starter for me. I either take ages and get annoyed or get it done in a 'mere' hour or so and it looks terrible and doesn't work properly. :/

All three minis are fantastic!
I would have preferred the mounted Sable Company Marine from the Inner Sea Pawn Box though.

It seems i was too dumb to understand you wanted the riders as seperate miniatures. ;-)

At least the guy on the horse WILL be in the set as a medium miniature, the pose looks EXACTLY the same (shield, sword, same armor)!
It´s #22 Reclamation Knight and will probably be in next weeks preview.

The other with the longspear won´t be in the set seperately, but the pose would have to be changed, as the longspear hangs too low. ;-)

Ah well, that's good then. I'll confess I'm not paying much attention to this set.

Having both a mounted and a 'free-standing' version of the same figure makes it much more usable as a PC.

Some news from Erik Mona himself regarding the next "Pathfinder Battles: Maze of Death" minis series (october 2017) case incentive, taken from plasticrypt.com:

:
Erik Mona wrote:
"The big elementals are (awesome) "standard" elementals at Huge size, not specific elemental lords.

We'll get to all four elementals in time."

That means of course, that MD#51 is the "Huge Air Elemental" and MD#52 is the "Huge Fire Elemental".

I expect the missing other two HUGE Elementals to be in the second set of 2018.

In other news: Wizkids has released a picture of it´s "D&D Icons of the Realms Epic Level Starter":

I'm actually quite happy with the announcement about the huge elementals. That will pretty much obsolete any of the old D&D elementals I have, what with a matching set all the way through the different sizes. I guess I'll,be keeping my subscription for at least a couple of more sets, as these will be must haves.

It looks like we won't be getting a preview tonight.

That's cool though, we already know what we'll be getting. ;-)

I hope Michael is well.
