Definitely plan on going to Gen Con again this year. I'm hoping to drag a few more of my friends along this time.
Question though:
If I plan on picking some of this stuff up down in Indy, should I pre-order here on the site, or just wait to visit the booth?
Can't wait to see some of you down in Indy this year. Take it easy everyone.

PRE-ORDER. That way you know it will be waiting there for you.
Also - would it be better to pre-order items individually now, or wait for subscriptions?
Edit: Never mind. Answered here.

Pre-ordered! I have yet to read if they said we can pick this up at Gen Con 50 along with our subscriptions as usual.
Also, will there be Starfinder games at Gen Con 50? I plan on going total PFS, but I will keep some slots open for Starfinder!

Oh sweet baby Erastil that is an ugly logo and cover for the core rulebook.
The original mock up logo was a bit flat but at least it was clean. Now it looks like a mishmash of the Animorphs logo and some kind of testosterone-laden military-themed game from the 80s.
As for the cover, while I understand the desire to show off the iconics, the original android/kasatha/ratfolk poster was much better composed. Judging by just about every other hardcover released for the Pathfinder line, we'll actually end up with some kind of intense battle scene that includes an iconic or two. But really hoping that this is just a mock-up placeholder.
Don't get me wrong, I'll still be buying these products, but I REALLY hope that the final product looks a little more appealing. Though I have a feeling the ship has sailed on that unfortunate logo.

Subscription orders can be set for Gen Con pickup. I do so every year and it's very easy. Sometime in July the option will go up and you simply go to your subscription page and tick a box.
I don't know if the same can be done with non-sub preorders, I've never tried it.
Be aware that when Paizo has a major release, the wait at the booth can get ferocious(1 hour+ on the first day). By subbing/ordering ahead, they will hold your stuff until you come by, so you can wait until the crazy line dies down to go get your items without worry that they might sell out.

Ah I'd seen that, but that one word "may" worries me.

The "may vary" is referring to "before release". So, maybe we could see two other covers before release, or just one after release.
At least that how I always read that phrase, one that commonly used in ALL PRODUCTS. Nevertheless, even those products that seemed to have their final cover since the announcement, after release had some minor changes...
That said, I'm sure that's not the final cover. No need to be worried.

I think I liked the original logo a bit better as well; it looked more machine-drawn due to the smooth lines/gradients versus the colored-pencil/hand-drawn look of this one -- and "hand-drawn" is a bit of a clash with common science fantasy aesthetics imo. That being said, I presume the logo design still hasn't been completely solidified, as I don't see any form of logo for Starfinder in a USPTO search (just the word mark with no graphic), whereas the Pathfinder logo does appear in said search using search term "(Paizo)[ON]"

Really excited about Starfinder! Even though there's no mention of a bestiary in this announcement, sadly. That Kasatha iconic has already taken my money! XD
Check the First Contact, also the APs will have some bestiary stuff as well. We've been told that a ship guide, weapon guide, and Alien Codex are all possibilities.

A Bestiary is definitely on the roadmap per the Humble Bundle Q&A, but it's not part of the August releases. I'd expect an announcement by GenCon at the very latest, and probably at PaizoCon.

Alien Codex - THIS!
Imagine an entry for all major alien races (maybe with class levels), that could even be converted to Pathfinder as well. That would be an interesting book to add into Starfinder books.

Indeed. As First Contact is labeled as a "Preview Bestiary", I'm convinced that we will eventually see Starfinder Bestiary announcement.

Agreed - Paizo cover art tends to be much more dynamic than "three people just standing around". I suspect we'll see these three iconics fighting a space dragon or something.

While I'm sure that isn't the final cover art (since a) they said it isn't and b) they tend to like more action on their covers), I totally concur on that logo. Orange is never the right answer.
I'd prefer something that looked more like either the old Star Frontiers RPG trade dress or the Star Trek logos from TOS movies, if we are going to go retro.

The way they describe it and how I'm picturing it in my head, I'm sort of imagining the idea that Starfinder no longer separates the Bestiary and the Advanced Race Guides anymore (which by the way, ARG 2 is a thing we need).
So imagine this, any race that is considered "sentient" will now have a block of rules next to it for player characters. Any Organized Play Campaign will have Rules that allow for a wide selection of racial options outside of core because, well, that's just the point of playing a Space Fantasy: tons of Aliens. Essentially we'll get a ARG and a Bestiary in one big book and the game will reflect that diversity.
As certain races become popular, perhaps we'll even seen unique archetypes or even splat books about their history and culture.

Now we're cooking with gas! I assume a cyborg Void Dragon is the only thing that eats a Tarrasque.

Three things:
• Those of you asking operational questions (subscriptions, Gen Con pickup, etc.) will want to look in on this thread in the CS forum.
• The mockup cover *does* have the final logo, but it *does not* have the final cover art.
• Those of you who clicked through to the Compatibility License page may have noticed that it lists our first three translation partners for Starfinder:
French (Black Book Editions)
German (Ulisses Spiele)
Italian (Giochi Uniti)
We are in discussions with several others (some that we have worked with before, and some that we haven't).

Call Japan and tell them we've got their next Anime.

Yay! Pawns! That was probably the first support products I suggested on the Message Board.
Not just because of the absence of miniatures for the players and monsters (in a game which requires them) but startships, which are even harder to get.
That and the flip maps are a great idea and useful for so many games. Such as the forthcoming Star Trek game and FFG's Star Wars game. Very happy to see those.
