Hi all! Reports keep coming in that convention season continues strong, with shows in the United States, Canada, France, and Australia. If you have a spare weekend, consider visiting our Events page and check out what Pathfinder Society activities occur in a city near you.

Last fall, I wrote a feature blog on SkålCon, a new convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul organized by Venture-Captains Andrew Christian & Jon Dehning and their motley crew of stalwart Pathfinder Society folk. This past weekend saw the return of SkålCon, bigger and badder than ever. Once again, the team set out to raise money for charity as part of the show, this time sacrificing Venture-Lieutenant Keith Apperson's locks to the cause. I received an email from Jon that SkålCon attendees opened their hearts and gave generously, surpassing last year's total by Friday. Thanks to all who contributed—the convention raised $6,003 for Tubman Charities.

One of our international events this upcoming weekend is PaizoCon Oz in Canberra, Australia. Venture-Captain Steve Coling is the lead organizer. Activities include both Adventure Card Guild adventures and Roleplaying Guild scenarios, including #7-99 Through Maelstrom Rift, and #8-00 The Cosmic Captive. The event also features some fundraising activities for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Looks like it is shaping up to be a great event. Reports are that there still may be room, so check out the Pathfinder Society Australia Facebook page for more information.

Announcement time! PaizoCon Oz 2017 is traveling to New Zealand. As part of the move, the convention made some special arrangements with Hobbiton, of "Lord of the Rings" fame. Attendance fee includes a tour of the Hobbiton village/film set, as well as the opportunity to play an interactive special event in the Green Dragon Inn! Due to the location and special events, attendee space at PaizoCon Oz is limited. Once PaizoCon Oz 2016 is over, the team will start posting information for next year's event on their Facebook page (link above).

Related to conventions is the question of our special event content and when/where an item can be ran. Here is the master list event organizers are using to determine what events to schedule. Events are broken out by the requirements needed to run each item. If an item is limited to a specific group of GMs, then it won't be available for purchase in our webstore, but may be granted to GMs as part of the convention support process.

Current Scenario Rules as of September 20, 2016

These scenarios may be run by any 4-star or 5-star GM or a Venture-Officer at any time. They also may be run by anybody at a convention. Any convention may schedule Bonekeep, as there are no table minimums.

  • Bonekeep Level 1: The Silent Grave (Levels 3-7)
  • Bonekeep Level 2: Maze to the Mind Slave (Levels 3-7)
  • Bonekeep Level 3: The Wakening Tomb (Levels 5-9)

These scenarios may be run anywhere, but only by 4-star and 5-star GMs (and ONLY them—Venture-Officers may only run them if they meet this requirement. VCs get a +2 and VLs a +1 to their star rating to meet this requirement).

  • #6-98: Serpent's Rise (Levels 7 Special Pregens Only)
  • #7-97: Serpents' Ire (Level 8 Special Pregens Only)

This scenario may be run at Tier 4 and above conventions (26+ tables of PFS in a 3-day period) by 4-star and 5-star GMs (and ONLY them—Venture-Officers may only run it if they meet this requirement. VCs get a +2 and VLs a +1 to their star rating to meet this requirement).

  • #7-99: Through Maelstrom Rift (Level 6 Special Pregens Only)

This scenario may be run anywhere but only by 5-star GMs (and ONLY them...Venture-Officers may only run it if they meet this requirement. VCs get a +2 and VLs a +1 to their star rating to meet this requirement).

  • #6-99: True Dragons of Absalom (Level 4 Special Pregens Only)

These scenarios may be run anywhere if they meet the listed table minimum, are playing the scenario simultaneously, and are in contact with each other.*

3 Tables

  • #2-SP: Year of the Shadow Lodge (Levels 1-11)

4 Tables

  • #4-SP: Race for the Runecarved Key (Level 1-20)

5 Tables

  • #3-SP: Blood Under Absalom (Levels 1-11)
  • #5-SP: Siege of the Diamond City (Levels 1-15)
  • #6-00: Legacy of the Stonelords (Levels 1-11)
  • #6-97: Siege of Serpents (Levels 1-11)
  • #7-00: The Sky Key Solution (Levels 1-11)

*For purposes of qualifying for these specials, you may add both Standard and Core tables add together. For example, if you had 3 Standard tables and 1 Core table for Race for the Runecarved Key, that would qualify as the 4 total tables you need to run the scenario.

These scenarios may be run at conventions if there are 6 or more tables playing the RPG scenario simultaneously and in contact with each other. To make sure areas are not over-saturated, RVC approval must be received. To run the ACG component, an event must have at least 2 tables with 2 players each:

  • #8-00 The Cosmic Captive (Levels 1-11)

So, what Pathfinder Society events are you getting up to this weekend? Share your plans below and let's see what awesomeness and hijinks ensue! Then tune in next week, as John introduces September's Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild scenarios and reveals a bit more about Season 8: Year of the Stolen Storm!

As always, remember to Explore, Report, Cooperate!

I think your question was more rhetorical, but in the spirit of more organized play, I will be running two PFS tables at Phantasm in Peterborough, Ontario. I've never been, and I hear it is actually a bit of a gem of small cons, and we PFS is running games both Saturday and Sunday.

Not rhetorical at all! I enjoy reading about our PFS events and what players are doing. Have fun at Phantasm.

Thanks for the run down of who can run what and when. Very helpful.

SkalCon was an absolutely amazing time, and I'm glad I got to be a part of making something magical.

For Arizona, our weekly gameday this Saturday is at Imperial Outpost Games in Glendale. Two slots with two tables each. I hope to be able to offer an excellent retail convention there in November, so if anyone will be in the area please check out our Warhorn and feel free to sign up!

I'm glad you could make it, Steve. I'm even happier that you had a good time. Everyone should experience Boomer at least once in their life.

I still can't believe how much we took in, both food and money. Just stunned.

The central London, UK lodge will be meeting on Sunday:

http://paizo.com/events/v5748mkg0bml9

We will be running "Dead Man's Debt" and "The Midnight Mauler". All welcome.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

I've been trying to get a table of The Darkest Abduction to fire, but I don't think it's gonna be run next Sunday 'cuz of geek sudoku. Maybe the next weekend?

We're slowly getting our next EotT group on the road, so I'm going through 7-11's those people have missed. I think the group has one player at exactly 33 exp, one 32 and one at 30 so it won't be too long now. And someone just might run some 7-11's I've missed myself(e.g RotRM 1 & 2, Silver Tarn etc) so win-win.

Nothing this weekend but the UK has two conventions at least in October. 1st/2nd is SPSX in Glasgow while the 29th/30th sees JenCon in Sheffield. Even better I am getting to play Cosmic Captive at SPSX and then run it at Jencon.

Should be a great month of gaming goodness.

Also on Friday my second group completes the All for Immortality series. Looking to set up a third run of it as well. Core Eyes of the Ten finishes nest week and may follow up with Core Tomb of the Iron Medusa and Core All for Immortality.

Now, if only we had some spicy Season 8 Seeker content as well...:)

The Exchange 5/5

At CogCon this last weekend I ran the 3-4 table of #8-00 The Cosmic Captive Saturday evening, and tables of 7-97: Serpents' Ire on Friday and Saturday...

I must be a bit of a Masochist, cause I just signed up to judge two tables of 7-97: Serpents' Ire early next month at SnapCon...

Sounds like lots of good PFS this weekend and in the near future.

Working to spin up a group for All for Immortality. Timing is a bit of a problem, but fingers crossed we can figure it out.

On my wish list - playing through the last three parts of Season of the Runelords ACG scenarios with my witch deck.

Grand Lodge 5/5 Venture-Captain, Arizona—Phoenix aka TriOmegaZero

I can't wait to run All For Immortality. Sadly, the home group needs a few levels to fit a table, due to the Eyes team leveling out.

I'm signed-up to run 5 tables of Serpent's Ire across 3 different platforms (PbP, VTT, in person) for Cons in the next couple months.

This will be interesting.

I'm looking into getting a 12"x13" plexiglass sheet that I can use as a "flight stand" for this. Looks like it will be a great visual effect!

That is almost essential for that scenario... There's a map up on PFSprep.com of the main level, but the upper part needs to be there too.

I've been doing it with 3 different "Flight" bases - but the set-up and take-down is longer than I care to waste. Having it all on one base should speed things along (now if I can just figure out how to do the chains...)

is it possible to have these rules in an area of the website, like you have the reroll rules. Then they don't get lost amongst the blog posts, and people can find them easily?

It is a common post topic of "what is a special?" and "what are the rules around running certain scenarios?".

I would like a clarification on the policy regarding the RVC approval requirement to run #8-00 The Cosmic Captive. How far in advance does the request for approval need to be submitted? How far in advance of the convention would we need to make sure there are enough pre-registrations to run 6 tables in order to qualify? Thank you.

4 weeks out is the gold standard for convention support. You can ask for things after the 4 week deadline, but it comes down to "time available" and there is a possibility that it may get missed/passed over.

5/5

Thanks for the info. Would we need to have pre-registrations for at least 6 tables by the 4-week deadline or would be be able to request it at 4 weeks and allow sign ups to meet the table requirement up to a later deadline? Thanks.

Question regarding Bonekeep Level 3: The Wakening Tomb. Was that actually released publicly? Last I read, it was only available at conventions. Do Venture Captains have access to it?

That's not what I'm asking. I read all that. I'll rephrase the question. I can't seem to find the link to the third level. Is this something that's directly emailed to VCs and VLs, or have a link show up once I hit my fourth star? Or, am I just not looking hard enough to find it on a public link that everyone can look at an pine over?

If you are a VO or you have 4*+ GM stars or you are scheduled to run it at a convention, you should get access to the scenario (added to your downloads). It is not available otherwise.

An additional thing I noticed (I acquired my 4 stars before I became a VA): if you get your fourth star, you have to contact Customer Service to get your scenarios, but when you become a VO, you get them automatically.

I'm hoping to become an agent, but chances are I'll have the stars before that ever happens. Good to know that I need to get in touch with people after I get 4.

Having had the luck to play with Tonya a couple weeks ago, I asked about Bonekeep 3. She indicated that it isn't always allocated automatically and if eligible, you should email her.

Don't mean to resurrect this, but just wondering if we can expect this same blog post next month with an updated revision of everything listed. Hoping that a few more scenarios will be allowed to be ran at conventions with smaller tables (3-4) and more 4-star available scenarios (we have no 5-stars). I say that because currently our tiny convention likely won't ever have enough tables over for #8-00 The Cosmic Captive to be ran. Just not enough people.

So I am pull this up from the depths of Hades to request the list of specials and requirement be updated now that we are in Season 9.

Or, please point me in the right direction if my search abilities are lacking.

Thank you.
