Short and Sweet

This week's figures come from The Rusty Dragon Inn set of prepainted fantasy Pathfinder Battles miniatures. With amazing paint masters, great digital sculpts, and lots of creatures and NPC types not previously available in prepainted plastic, The Rusty Dragon Inn is shaping up to be one of my favorite sets ever!

This week, I'm previewing a few of the set's "shorter" figures, to account for this week's relatively short blog!

Up first is the Dwarf Wizard, a stalwart who appears on the cover and interior of the Pathfinder RPG NPC Codex. Quite a mustache on this guy, who is showing off some elemental power by turning his hand to stone. I think it's safe to say... he packs on HELL of a punch! (Ahem.) The Dwarf Wizard is a Medium, uncommon figure.

It's long been a goal of mine to provide male and female figures for all of the primary Pathfinder class types (arcane spellcaster, rogue, warrior, cleric, roughly speaking). The Rusty Dragon Inn has proven very helpful in that regard, allowing us to grab some of the coolest images from the NPC Codex and bring them to you in prepainted plastic. Here we have the Gnome Wizard from that volume. Honestly I think she also works well as a gnome rogue, if you want to play it that way. The Gnome Wizard is a Small, uncommon figure.

Like the NPC Codex, the Pathfinder RPG Monster Codex has likewise been a great resource for this set, and from its pages come this week's monster, the Kobold Trapmaker, a Small, uncommon figure. This guy is a good example of a figure that I think looks even better in hand than in its 3D render, and I can't wait to add him to my kobold army.

That's it for this week! As one of my favorite Doctors once famously said:

"Sorry, must dash."

Yes! Another NPC Codex PACG figure we can use! This time, it's the Gnome Wizard Melindra (The Mage Spy in the NPC Codex).

Glad this PACG one is uncommon. That helps my wallet, right?

I like this Kobold Trapmaker better than the D&D version. All three are decent additions to my collection. I love the dwarf's goggles.

Fantastic! Very kobold thing to do carrying that loaded trap in his hand like that.

Those are cool! I especially like both wizards. My only quibble is that I'd like the dwarf even better if his potion bottles had some color, but that was probably a couple paint steps too many. Maybe I'll add a dash of color to those myself.

While we're in wizard territory, let me add that I think it would be cool if you occasionally made a mini that was suitable for a spell effect. For instance, it would be great to have a transparent (not-Bigby's!) hand spell, a floating disk, a couple of spiritual weapons (though some stuff has come out in Heroclix lately that's good for that), a Large resilient sphere, some various spell walls that could connect up to each other smoothly, etc.

Silver Crusade

That Kobold also looks like he'd be perfect for Pathfinder Society scenario #6-99! :)

I'd second that idea. Although walls would need to be a common medium mini so you can collect a lot and use them in a kind of modular way. A 1" wall of fire, ice, stone, blade barrier; that sort of thing.

Finally, a female gnome! ^_^

Also, I'm enjoying this set very much so far. Hopefully I can subscribe in time to get Dungeons Deep before this set hits...

Dwarf Wizard: A great looking mini and a versatile sculpt for most any caster class. My only concern is the "spell effect" that is on his hand -- this sort of takes away from the versatility of the mini. (It still looks great with the spell effect, but its nice to have more versatile appearing figures.)

Gnome Wizard: A fantastic looking mini! She definitely appears as more of a melee type than a wizard, but is most certainly a highly versatile mini. Its definitely going to be my favorite ppm female gnome (not that there is much to choose from).

Kobold Trapmaker: Another great looking kobold from Paizo! The one I just received from WotC's Elemental Evil minis, is a really poor sculpt that further got ruined by a splotchy paint job. Even if this Trapmaker gets a poor paintjob he is still going to look far better that WotC's kobold!

I know pc/npc focused sets are not everyone's preference, but I already am so happy with this set because of it, and it just keeps getting better with every reveal!

Actually, a question comes to mind. Will Paizo.com ever stock or sell singles of the new D&D minis?

I'm sure there are some I'd like to get, but I can barely keep up with my purchases now...

How many PACG character miniatures are in this set?
What are their names?

Have to get em all

I asked about that a while back and the answer was probably not. There's a lot of inventory unpacking, storing, tracking, etcetera and the staff time required is probably not worth the effort.

In case anyone has missed it (and presuming those reading this thread are likely to be interested), Dungeoncrawler are currently running a kickstarter for an 8x8 "tarrasque" miniature. They've previously done a kraken and a bunch of other stuff. There's only a week to go and it hasn't yet funded.

Kickstarter projects like this are the most likely way we'll see those truly out-there minis - the ultimate stretch goal was a walking hut, although I've lost hope that we'll reach that... :(

Nice!!

Prob my favorite bunch of previews.

The kobold will come in handy for sure!

Dungeoncrawler is pretty good about holding on to the designs they don't fund in one Kickstarter and funding them in a future one. I'd love to see the Hut too.

Apologies, the link kept taking me to a two-week old version of the site from my Cache where there was nothing even remotely spoiler-ish. now that I've tried it again all I can say is WOW.

Having high-speed broadband internet, I have my browser settings changed so that a new copy of webpages I visit are loaded everytime I visit. This eliminates the concern if the browser is loading an older saved copy.

Alternatively, you could just get used to hitting CTRL-R (or your browser's refresh button) when you visit sites like news sites and such where the information may change frequently.
