Group survey time!

Okay, survey time since we can't come to a consensus among the setup crew:
Is a group of goblins called a horde, murder, or pyre?

I thought Cosmo was a mythic gremlin who apotheosized via the Schadenfreudestone?

He is! Don't let that Person-Formerly-Known-As-Kilrex tell you otherwise! :p

..and obviously pyre if we're stuck to three choices.

So let's go with conflagration! 'Mischief' is a group of gremlins!

Conflagration is great for us civilized folk, but I shall put forth a much easier to say word, just to be kind to our large headed subjects. I propose they be called a "Tinder of Goblins."

My vote's conflagration. If we must continue to color within the lines, I vote pyre.

No, a gross is a specific number -- 144.

So, 144 goblins at CR 1/3 (135 XP) = 19440 XP or ~ CR12. Aka, the most boring, drawn out encounter for a level 12 group ever. To match the original intent, perhaps a Nausea of Goblins?

They seem all to be packed into a single 5' square, so that might be a swarm.

+2.

I think a Mess of Goblins is most appropriate.

I like "mess of goblins" a lot.

How about "infestation of goblins"?

I like pyre

Has anyone suggested 'pile'?

As in a 'pile' of goblins?

That is a "hob" of Goblins.....

A ruckus of goblins

A riot of goblins. After all, riots are destructive, noisy, and often result in fires...

Aren't they always found in a rubbish dump/tip? So I would call them one of the following:

a refuse of goblins
A litter of goblins
A debris of goblins

Of those listed as options: pyre

Allowed to freely choose, I'd go with "arson". But that's just me. A pyre would tend more to indicate that life had already fled and the corpses were being disposed of. Arson is active and ongoing.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned goblins and food related monikers. How about a gnaw of goblins, a gulp or a belch.

Pyre is good too. Conflagration is too high falootin' for goblins.

I would have to say a horde.

A gobbet of goblins
A confusion of goblins
A foolery of goblins
A motley of goblins
A squabble of goblins

but my favourite must be

An incidence of goblins.

A pie of goblins. At least that's what ogres call them, because they like to stuff them in a big crust and bake them...

Scarab Sages

Of the three I like murder. Outside of the three I'm torn between onslaught and slaughter of goblins.

...swarm.

Liberty's Edge

I like Pyre.

Really? No one suggested gobs of goblins?

Too easy a joke to make.

Liberty's Edge

Remember back in the Basic days when it was called a tribe?

After some googling, I saw the words 'grund' and 'rabble'

Of the original choices, I like pyre the most.

Outside the lines, I'm partial to a riot of goblins.

Sovereign Court

i prefer the literary term horde as it has always been the primary term thru-out fantasy novels.
if you really must have a pathfinder unique id go with murder. as goblins tend to destroy and murder all in their path. while pyre tends to match their love of fire they do not tend to light each other on fire.

Ahem...I think you ALL have it wrong. A "group" of goblins is M-A-Y-H-E-M.

Inside the box: pyre of goblins
Outside the box: a bedlam of goblins, a turmoil of goblins. Maybe a madness of goblins...

I agree with Terminalmancer. Coloring within the lines does tend to get boring.

I had a lvl 6 group fight over 30 orcs once. Fight lasted over 2 hours.

Bleh!

Silver Crusade

One more hit me this morning :

A FUBAR of goblins.

:-)

A mash of goblins.

mash
Noun: A soft pulpy mass
British Slang: mashed potatoes
Older Slang: love or a love affair

(They did the mash!) They did the Monster Mash...

(They did the mash!) It was a graveyard smash...

I'd also add a harassment of goblins, but that's too close to a harras of horses.

A pyre of goblins sounds right.
