Adventure Card Game Open at Gen Con 2015!

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

As we rush around the Paizo office preparing for the Best Four Days in Gaming, I'm focusing my efforts on the Adventure Card Game Open, a new team-against-team tournament format that will debut at Gen Con this year. Testing and tuning is still underway, but for those of you who are participating, I can post the characters for the quarter-final round now. (You might also wish to familiarize yourselves with the characters' associated roles; role text can be found on the freely downloadable ACG character sheets.

The tournament will have 4 quarter-final sessions, 2 semi-final sessions, and 1 final round in which teams of 4 will compete in a 2-hour test of their skills against a fiendish scenario. Each round will tell one piece of the story these adventurers are living. Your play will determine whether good or evil will win the day.

First up is our original Rise of the Runelords incarnation of the iconic wizard Ezren. He'll bring some arcane might to the proceedings.

Next up is the Sarenite cleric Kyra from the Wrath of the Righteous base set. She smites foes with grim purpose and heals when she helps others to succeed.

The stabby and sneaky archetypes are represented in the Open by the Rogue Class Deck version of Merisiel. This Merisiel is a ranged combatant rather than a finesse fighter, but she still brings the pain... from a safe distance.

Finally, we have the stalwart front-line fighter, ably portrayed here by Valeros from Skull & Shackles. It's hard to go wrong with Valeros. All his incarnations are tough and focused on winning.

So there you have the lineup for the Thursday and Friday rounds of the Adventure Card Game Open! Those of you who are playing might want to get very familiar with these four heroes. Sadly, the event itself is sold out, but if you want to sign up for some Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild play at Gen Con, here's a link to the schedule. We're hoping to have some of the new Class Decks available for perusal at PFSACG events, so buy your tickets now!

Until next time, Pathfinders!

Nice! I really like how you picked 1 Iconic from each of the Base Sets plus the Class Decks.

It looks like Kyra is missing a checked off power feat, compared to each of the other characters.

Good luck to all of you playing in the Open at GenCon!

Fixed.

Something is wrong with your tournament settings... You could buy tickets for the final event?? Ooh, yeah let us skip the the quarter and semi final and just buy a finale ticket right away ;-)))))

Is there anything you could win ? A price?

Will the "fiendish scenarios" and the line-ups be released for public at some point? Would love to see and play those.

Even though the finals are in the list of events it is not possible to buy tickets for it.

Will there be any more positions opened for the open game at the con? Or will there just be openings based upon ticketed people no shows? If so I would like to place my name on the wait list now.

Is there a need for any more Adventure Card Guild volunteers at Gen Con? I could run some games on Saturday night, and all day Sunday.

Check your PMs. :)

Man that looks fun! I even have three other people who could play with me (and in our group, each of us plays as one of those types!). Alas, the tournament is full.

If you have enough extra people who are interested, would you be able to open more tournament slots? ;) Will the scenarios be released for general play afterwards?

Please please please Tanis I'll do whatever is needed to get out of your mean-list if you provide us some way to get the scenarios and rules that will be used (post Gen Con of course) so we can have our mini Gen Con here in Paris.
Pleeeeaaase....

This is a fun idea! Put me in for hoping for a release of the scenarios and rules for the tournament.

So Tanis, as a volunteer will I be helping with the OP or the tourney on Thursday?
