The content we showed off from July's Occult Adventures hardcover at the PaizoCon Preview Banquet whetted some appetites for a few more details. I know many of you are looking forward to sinking your teeth into the book even more, especially after we previewed all of the art of the new iconics—and don't worry, you'll be seeing more of them soon! But for now, enjoy this curated selection of art from Occult Adventures!

So much cool radiating from this book, I think it has the potential to rival the Advanced Players Guide...

The sneak-peaks of the art are gorgeous! But, what's the deal with the Barbarian fighting the frost giant. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I don't see the "occult" in it.
Also, not to dumb-down the conversation, but why is the Barbarian Icon's (can't recall her name) butt hanging out? Never noticed that before when we've seen her. Not that I'm really complaining. :)

Yeah, that's definitely not Amiri's normal garb.

Perhaps the Frost Giant is the one with occult powers in this picture.

Maybe Barbarians are immune to frostbite on their bum.

Perhaps the Frost Giant is the one with occult powers in this picture.

The original (and more occult) art order was for a dream image of the frost giant that Amiri slew to get her sword, attacking her with its own remembered version of the same sword she is currently using. That's not what we got, so now it's a cool picture of Amiri fighting a frost giant!

...no, I'd rather have new characters. Can never have too many cool characters.

Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, HR has four iconics; HV has six iconics (one for each cover, two for each alignment).

Thanks for the explanation. And you're right, it still is great art! :)

I'm sure it will be new characters. He was making a Star Trek Mirror-Universe joke. (At least I think he was.)

... I don't know why I'm surprised that they gave the female Duergar facial hair.

I didn't even notice that, 'til you pointed it out. Transgender maybe?

Have we gotten any art of the Iconic Kineticist yet?

Liberty's Edge

A very blurry one. Can't locate it right now, but I couldn't tell the gender or the element from it.

sunderedhero wrote:

Officially, I don't think so. But there were spoiler reports that it was a human female child (Drew Barrymore from Firestarter is where my brain goes there.). If you search hard enough, you might be able to find some second hand photos of the art.

I've been pretty curious about the other Icons. Despite their absence, I think we'll be seeing previews of them very soon.

sunderedhero wrote:

Here's a Blurry Picture of all the Occult Iconics from PaizoCon. In order of left to right it's Psychic, Spiritualist, Medium, Kineticist, Occultist, Mesmerist.

Scarab Sages

That looks more like a halfling than a child to me.

Imbicatus wrote:

Agreed. Though Mark says it's a kid, the facial shape and it's proportions just like halfling to me.

The non-blurry picture of it makes it pretty clear that it's a child.

The stuffed owlbear helps too.

So the center-left guy is not the Mesmerist? I heard that he was a gnome, or a Halfling. He LOOKS like a mind-messer, if not the Mes, does that make him the medium?

(Gods, this speculation is fun!)

The left center guy is the Medium, in one of his hands (which is obscured in that specific line-up) he has harrow cards. The mesmerist is the guy covered up with stuff and wearing a fez on the right.

The Mesmerist is on the far right, with the hat, and is Lem's brother. They hate each other.

Oh man, the Spiritualist/Phantom duo looks so cool... my fingers are crossed there are some nice upgrades to the class when released, so my Spiritualist pair can be as sweet as they look.

Actually if that is some kind of new psychic spell the Spiritualist is using them, I'm excited about that. My Spiritualist's spell list feels pretty bare of possibilities at the moment.

Is the blog post title a reference to a certain game from 2001 by Troika and Sierra?

To my knowledge, we've been labeled pictures with all of the Iconics except for Medium and Kineticist. I can also deduce that based on the Playtest pronoun use that the Kineticist is female and the Medium male So by process of elimination the 2 in the center of the Blurry Picture are them.

Pictures of:
Mentalist with Oloch
Spiritualist
Psychic
Occultist

What is this about evil iconics? Have they confirmed new iconics for Hell's Vengeance, or is this just speculation?

Liberty's Edge

They have confirmed six evil iconics, two of each alignment.

Samy wrote:

So. Cool.

Will one of them be Seltiyel, or are they all new?

Well, the mentalist is evil, I think the cavalier and magus are evil. So the rest must be new.

The cavalier isn't evil, but he does have 10 ranks in the Douchebag Mythic Path.

I'm not 100% sure, but I got the vibe (from James Jacobs' post that I can't find right now) that they are all new.

Is the Mesmerist Fez a magic item or just a normal one?

Is that supposed to be another iconic, or does the blue spell aura indicate this is a dominated foe?

Also, I want that stuffed owlbear.

I think the old lady is the Iconic Spiritualist controlling that green warrior Phantom. She also pops up in this picture. In terms of core mechanics, she's basically an occult version of the Summoner class with some Shaman King anime flare.

That description totally made me want to play that class. Thank you!

I am more curious about the psychic manuscript since all psychic magic users are spontaneous casters so it isn't some kind of scroll or spell book in function.

I don't know why, but I think the manuscript will be in one of those sections describing minor subsystems like the chakras.

Personally, I'm wondering if it's an ally.

Wait, the kineticist iconic is really just a kid? Wow, I always thought they were a halfling. It'll be interesting to see how that's received, especially in the UK given their regulations about violence against children in media.

Well, James said that was the *goal*... of course, goals can always be missed. So maybe using the verb "will" was strong, perhaps "trying to"?

In honor of the pending release of Occult Adventures, I've been remotely observing the auras of the Paizo staff and communing with your subconscious spirits on the Astral Plane. (Except for Sutter. I'm not ready.) That's how I knew about the <REDACTED>

Sorry.
