Free RPG Day is Here!

Saturday, June 21, 2014

Today is the day! Across the world, game stores are currently participating in Free RPG Day, and Paizo has two exciting products that are being released just for this event. This year we are releasing Pathfinder Module: Risen from the Sands and Ranzak the Goblin Raider for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game as we get ready to release the Skull & Shackles Base Set. You can learn more about these products and download the Pregen Characters for the module in our blog from this past Thursday. If you've already picked up Ranzak from your local game store, we have put together downloadable character sheets so you can drop him into your game right now!

And if you haven't made it to Free RPG Day, don't worry! On July 1, Risen from the Sands will become available as a free PDF and a $5 print product while supplies last, exclusively at paizo.com—and at PaizoCon and Gen Con! Ranzak will also be for sale at PaizoCon and Gen Con, and on paizo.com (while supplies last) after Gen Con begins. Pathfinder ACG subscribers will also get Ranzak free with their August shipment, along with a few other promo cards.

We hope you're enjoying Free RPG Day, and look forward to sharing more about the Skull & Shackles Base Set as we get closer to release this year at Gen Con!

Crowe the Pregen Barbarian from Risen from the Sands, the Free RPG Day module has a typo in his while in rage stat, it should read 18 and not 22.

Went to the Twenty-Sided Store here in Brooklyn to check out Free RPG Day. (https://twentysidedstore.com/blog/free-rpg-day-2014-game-descriptions) When I came in, a table of Pathfinder players was cheering over their latest victory. I got there at noon; to get into a Pathfinder game, they said I had to wait until 6pm (!) to get in, they were so jam packed with new players. I had to buy some new battle mats and go home for regular Saturday night session.

Successful day for Paizo!

Nice to see the final version of Ranzak after seeing him during the Skull & Shackles. Sadly, I asking my local store owner if he was doing Free RPG Day and he said he didn't even know about it. I went ahead and made sure he ordered a copy of the base set for me, though. Is there any chance that Ranzak might go out to local game stores with the base set? Regardless, I'm glad that the PDF is available.

Speaking of the PDF, it looks like there is an error in Ranzak's Cards List. It has him with a base of 1 item card, but it looks like it should be 4 as the first Card Feat brings him to 5. Also, I was wondering, is plunder explained in the physical release of Ranzak? If someone wants to use the feat: "When you close a location, add a plunder card from the box to your hand." How would they use that in Rise of the Runelords if someone wants to play with Ranzak right now? Or should it just be recommended to use the Wrecker role if you're not playing in Skull & Shackles?

The RPG release of Ranzak included a "rule card" in addition to the normal stuff. There is an explanation and a little chart on the rule card about plunder. My take was that you use that chart to fulfill that power.

Are the card feats correct on Ranzak, or is he just that weird?

Edit: I guess what it looks like is it should be Weapon: 4, Spell: 1, Armor: 1, Item: 4, Ally: 1, Blessings: 4. That adds up to 15 like the other characters and makes the progression make sense. But hey, you never know with goblins.

Thanks for posting that cartmanbeck. My local shop doesn't do Free RPG Day, so it's awesome that the character sheet and rules were posted here. I guess when you just spent a whole day giving it away in shops, posting it freely isn't an issue.

What extracts does Quinn have prepared? I couldn't find them listed...

Can anyone tell me how the war priest has 3 feats at level 3. Where's the extra feast coming from.

He has combat casting, improved init, and power attack.

Am I reading Ranzaks sheet right? When he gains card feats he has the option to go from 1 to 5 items and 1 to 5 blessings but his upgraded allies goes down from 4 to 2?

It makes a crazy kind of sense being a goblin and all but adding four cards to the deck in one go? That's pretty dang good.

The Warpriest, on the play test PDF, gains a combat feat like the fighter, at 3rd level

The sheet is incorrect. The card shows the correct starting deck makeup for him:

Weapons 4
Armors 1
Spells 1
Items 4
Allies 1
Blessings 4

Ah that make more sense in a not crazy way then. Thanks.

Oops, I apologize guys. It looks like when those values were input my wires got crossed. If you redownload Ranzak's sheet, those card values should be fixed.

Where is the download for the new character classes?

The 3rd-level pregens for swashbuckler, warpriest, bloodrager, and investigator are on the last pages of the Free RPG Day adventure (free download here). For the rules for the actual classes, you have to wait for the ACG to be released in August.
