Advanced Class Guide Previews

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

We are just about 10 weeks away from the release of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Advanced Class Guide. Coincidentally this mighty tome also features 10 new classes to add to your Pathfinder game. So, in anticipation of its release, we are going to be showcasing one class from the book each week until the book hits store shelves and the gamers line up at our Gen Con booth to snag a copy. Look for these previews every Tuesday.

But that is not all. As many of you are well aware, each one of our iconic characters has a "Meet the Iconics" story associated with them, giving you a sense of how they fit into our world. In keeping with that tradition, we'll also be posting the backgrounds for these new iconic characters. Look for these character stories every Thursday.

To give you a taste of what is to come, check out the cover for this amazing book, courtesy of Wayne Reynolds. I am sure you can work out which iconics are features on the cover.

Well, we've seen the elf/half-elf Swashbuckler before and the half-orc Warpriest, so I'm guessing, based around the rugged and angry appearnce of the guy with the Earthbreaker, that he's the Bloodrager Iconic, he also seems to have a few magical trinkets or a wand tied to his belt.... That, or it's a VERY aggresive Arcanist of course >.>

My bet is Bloodrager too. I'm more interested in what they're fighting though. It looks vicious!

Looks like something you really don't want to fight honestly.

So we've seen the Bloodrager, Swashbuckler and Warpriest so far, and this here might be another of the new class Iconics fighting Merisiel; http://static4.paizo.com/image/product/catalog/PZO/PZO9451_500.jpeg I'm guessing Shaman, based on the fox on the shoulder?

Venziir, that actually looks like an Aldori Swordlord from Inner Sea Codex...

As for what they're fighting, with the long neck it kind of looks like a spectral jabberwock. It's probably something else though.

That is indeed an Aldori Swordlord, I think that art piece is from the newly released Inner Sea Combat campaign setting book.

That is some very sexy artwork right there.

Where can I find a pic of the warpriest?

I can't wait for the various Meet the Iconics every Thursday. I wonder who will be first. Would be nice if they went alphabetical by class. I want to see if (according to that picture that has appeared in the ACG Iconics thread) my guess for the Arcanist and Shaman are correct. I say dwarf arcanist and halfling shaman, but others say the opposite.

On the cover of the "Risen from the Sands" module. Oh and yes, you are all right, it's an Aldori Swordlord, my apologies, I got too exited I think, I just really want to see the Shaman iconic hehe.

Ooh! That thread and those puctures sounds *very* intriguing, got a link or anything?

Cover of this year's free RPG day module has the warpriest on it.

Linky

Edit: ninja'd. I blame the near-useless cut and paste feature of my phone.

Brilliant! Those are some awesome looking characters I must say! Though I'll have to admit, I can't quite figure out who's who, like the guy wearing the plue helmet/hat, is he what, the Slayer?

Great cover, but I was let down after starting the blog and expecting a preview of one of the 10 classes this week.

It probably says something terrible about me that when I look at that art, all I can think of is all the future rules threads where people will cite that art as a reason why you can't use your buckler hand for the things the CRB says you can. :/

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

If my calculations are correct if they do start next week, then the release date for the ACG would be one of the following,

August 6th(the day after the last scheduled Iconic release), 13th, or 20th.

That's not a buckler, that's a mirror. The swashbuckler is showing the ghosty ravager dragon-thingie the bits of Lem still stuck in its teeth, and she's offered to use her rapier to toothpick out the halfling chunks. You know how distracting and irritating it is when you get a bit of food stuck between your human teeth? It must be much worse when your teeth are as long as shortswords.

And the bloodrager has a giant rattle, not an earthbreaker. He's shaking it to make dragon-thingie smile wide, which will make the Lem-bits extraction much easier for Ms. Swashbuckler.

I think from left to right they are the Investigator, Arcanist(I think Female Halfling), Skald, Slayer, Brawler(guy in brown that looks like he has skulls on his shoulder), Shaman(I think female Dwarf), Swashbuckler, Hunter, Warpriest, and Bloodrager.

Dark Archive

Ooh, I love the iconics. They are one of my favourite things in PF. I suppose it's because they are like PF's superhero team.

Who do we definitely have then?

- Half-Orc male Warpriest of Gorum who uses a sharpened bit of railway track as his sword.

- Half-Elf female Swashbuckler who presumably gets extra Panache from her stylish cape (includes the Extremely Fashoionable trait)

-Human male Shoanti(?) Bloodrager. He looks terribly eager to hit something with his spiky lightning hammer.

- Human male Mwangi (I hope) Investigator. He has a neat beard and sword cane which look very dapper and gentlemanly.

- Halfling Female Arcanist? She's got a Robe of Stars or something, hard to tell with the picture, but frankly she looks like a Wizard (because she is one).

- Human male Ulfen(?) Skald. Blondie clearly takes care of his hair and beard as a high Cha guy should. But still tough, what with being a Barbarian.

-Human male Qadiran/Keleshite Slayer. Not sure if he's meant to have that spiked mace, but I can go with the rest of it. He's a desert dervish,

-Probably human male Brawler, home unknown. I was expecting more of a boxer, not sure about this guy.

- Female Dwarf Shaman. Nothing is clear, but she has mystical robes and a silly hat. Except you can't tell her she has a silly hat because she has 9th level spells and hexes. She looks lovely...

- Human female Hunter. I'm guessing from Nirmathas as that is meant to be the Chaotic Good Robin Hood country. A Hunter with a huge pet wolf could fit in there. She has nice green armour with her red hair.

I really hope the Arcanist and Shaman are some of the first to be revealed. I honestly can't see how people are saying the arcanist is a halfling and the shaman is the dwarf. The one to the far left (the one most likely the arcanist) is taller than the one on the right (the one most likely the shaman). Dwarves are taller than halflings (medium vs small).

I don't know, maybe I am wrong. But I honestly don't see it being a halfling on the left and dwarf on the right. Unless, Wayne Reynolds screwed up on the height of them.

*begs Paizo to release one of those two for the first iconic reveal*

Personally, I think that is a female dwarf shaman on the left, and a female halfling arcanist on the right.

Just because blue is traditionally an arcane color, and white is traditionally a clerical color, doesn't mean they can't be reversed.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

the other thing to note is that all the iconics have their images done separately. therefore each of their images were the same size and had to be Photoshopped together and if you did put a halfling at their proper height they would not as clearly as the other iconics. so I do believe the height of the halfling and the dwarf compared to each other are a Photoshop misconception and not their actual height.

unless the dwarf is the shortest dwarf possible and the halfing is the tallest possible. let me check.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Nope.

Shortest Dwarf Woman: 3 ft. 9 in.
Tallest Halfing Women: 3 ft. 2 in.

We already know the release date - August 14th, the first day of Gencon

I think the brawler is a woman, actually. And she seems to be wearing some protective boxing head gear, so I think she may be on point for a boxer.

Oops, she won't be impressed I thought she looks a bit manly. I have to apologise to her very sincerely. Beg, even.

The helmet makes sense now, a Brawler can wear leather so it's proper boxing headgear.

In that case, do Brawlers get special gum shields too? +1 tooth-retaining mouth guard?

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Arcainist and Investigator are the top two on my list.

Reaaaally want to see if they made the necessary revisions to the Swashbuckler... I've wanted a dexterity/charisma martial since I first started playing, I want it to be good.

I'd like to see what, if any, revisions were made to the Warpriest and Bloodrager. Both of those are awesome classes that felt like they could use a bit of polish in places. Hopefully they gots it done.

A little hard to tell if the Brawler is male or female in that picture. I see a small round glossy shine on the chest area, which makes me think female. It also looks like the torso is thinner and more feminine. If those images are to scale with each other, she's a mighty tall woman (towers over almost all the others), which makes me think Elf. But what keeps me from going with female elf is the elven penalty to Constitution. Of course, that doesn't really mean a thing for the iconics, really.

But I am really really hoping the first entry of Meet the Iconics is the Arcanist, and them going in alphabetical order. But I have a feeling the Warpriest and Swashbuckler iconics will be the first 2.

Scratch that, they already have a female elf rogue. So, looks like the Brawler is human, and when going by the gender pronouns of the ACG playtest (which goes by the gender of the pictured iconic), the Brawler is a human female.

It was already phenomenal! It could solo creatures 10 CR above its level! Well, at high levels at least. So I hope they evened him out a bit, rather than being super strong at high levels and somewhat weak at low levels.

Wait, so we'll be getting glimpses of the new classes or will this be full on spoilers? Either way, we're getting background stories for the new iconics! This is the sort of blog posts we've been wanting. THANK YOU Jason! ^_^

Oh, so they chose Professor Badass for the Investigator? Good choice, chaps, good choice.

I guess that Warpriest took a look at Amiri's sword and got mighty envious. Otherwise it looks more than a bit silly.

Ten new classes. About ten weeks before the ACG's release.

Since the Swashbuckler is the first to get a Meet the Iconics article, I can guess we're probably going to get Oloch the Warpriest next or very soon. I figure the first four will be the Iconics that are featured in Risen from the Sands. However, that's just my guess.

As somebody that has a pet peeve for oversized weapons in fantasy artwork I note the weapon that's listed as 14 pounds that looks like it might be closer to 150.

Hasn't the green archer(Hunter?) popped up as artwork in another book? Could've sworn I've seen her before.
