The Gauntlet Will Be Ours!

Friday, May 16, 2014

This Sunday, four members of the Paizo staff will do glorious battle with teams from other game companies for the right to claim The Gauntlet! Over the past week, we've been collecting donations to help our team improve its chances. These donations go directly to Child's Play, a charity that helps sick kids in hospitals around the world by supplying them with toys and games! So far we've raised over $3,000 for the Paizo team, which has earned us 8 "Power Ups" to use during the event. Reaching these goals has also unlocked some rewards for you!

As part of this event, we promised to release a primitive human race for use in your Pathfinder game if we reached $3,000. This is in honor of Ugg-tect, one of the games we will be playing on Sunday during the tournament in which the players take on the role of a caveman building primitive structures.

Download the Primitive Human PDF!

Of course, there are still plenty of other goals we can reach before the event begins on Sunday, including the following:

  • $3,500—Spoiler Reward: Spoilers about the upcoming Advanced Class Guide.
  • $4,000—Card Reward: We will release a PDF featuring the Gauntlet team members as new Ally cards compatible with the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.
  • $4,500—Spoiler Reward: Even more spoilers about the upcoming Advanced Class Guide.
  • $5,000—Audio Reward: We will put together a "dramatic reading" of a chapter from one of our Pathfinder Tales novels, featuring members of the Paizo staff as the characters.

Remember, every dollar donated goes to support Child's Play. If you want to help our team, go to this link, enter your donation and make sure to put "For Paizo" in the comment box so that your donation goes to help our team.

Finally, you will be able to watch the event this Sunday, starting at 3pm (PST). It is being broadcast on twitch.tv through the NPCcast. During the event, we will also be auctioning off a number of Paizo prize packs live during the event. Check out the great products we are putting up for auction!

1. A Core Rulebook signed by the Paizo staff

2. The Ultimate Wrath of the Righteous game pack including

3. Pathfinder Battles Ultimate Dragon Pack including

All proceeds from the auction will go to Child's Play, so make sure to tune in and bid for these great prizes! Thanks again from the team for helping us in the event. We hope to do you proud and bring home The Gauntlet!

Push on Brothers and Sisters! Victory is close to our grasp!

For Paizo!

Ugh, just found out that since Bungie has the most raised, they get an additional 'uncounted' 5 points, so Bungie is actually in the lead at this moment with 42 points.

The battle was over. Even as our forces were pushed back to the third position our band of heroes fought bravely and laid siege to the fortress of the gauntlet. After succeeding in a challenge of dexterity the BBEG was defeated, their gauntlet of power seized and then quickly used to punch Jason in the face. As they returned our forces cheered in triumph for the heroes victory, and the armies shook hands in respect of a battle well won. Our champions in completion of their tasks set to work on selecting the promised prizes of war for the forces that stood by their side, selected secrets from the hidden archives of Paizo.

And as our heroes return home, to the company of their companions and a well earned drink at their home tavern, the people rejoiced as the fight didn't just earn them glory but also gave 25,000 gp to those in need of the gift of gaming.

But even in victory the seeds of later battles are sown, the Gauntlet earned is but one of a pair the other of which still lies in the fortress. The BBEG was not slain and thus the challenge will come once again. and as the forces of the table top gaming world replenish their spent resources and rest from conflict, the BBEG begins to plan for the next conflict. and when the time comes it will meet warriors ready to battle once more.

May Abadar bless our fortunes, Gorum with skill of battle, and Desna with the luck that all adventurers need to win the day. And may we all be ready for the battle of games, next time.

I just noticed Jason offered us a bard archetype based on Ronnie James Dio if we had reached $6,000 donation mark to Child's Play before The Gauntlet event. That would have been great.

Every dream of playing a bard based on Ronnie James Dio, but can't find the right archetype? If Paizo reaches the $6,000 donation mark to Child's Play before this weekends The Gauntlet event, I'll design the troubadour class--a very metal variant bard for Pathfinder (levels 1-20), and distribute it as a free PDF. If we reach $6,500 I'll design a 1e clone of the class as well. If you donate, remember to let them know it's for Paizo in the comment field. METAL! FOR THE CHILDREN!

We didn’t get the Bard, but Paizo got the Gauntlet and we now know that Jason got a good taste in Music. Holy Diver, Last in Line, Raising and Mob Rules are some of the best metal albums ever.

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! ALL HAIL KHORNE!

Also, Jason, can we please have the Bard archetype at some later point? Perhaps for Christmas? I realise that asking this right after endorsing you being punched in the face may not be particularly effective, but still, I'd love nothing more than to be able to play as a Ronnie James Dio style bard... All my bard characters are metal/rock based. My current Thundercaller in Reign of Winter plays The Immigrant Song every time he starts up the raging song for our Ulfen barbarian. The look on the GM's face the first time that happened was a thing of beauty.

I love the Bard. Every time I play another class, except for the Sorcerer, I eventually say to myself: why didn’t I choose a Bard?

BTW, I think the ACG will change this. Some of the classes in that book looks awesome.

Think of it as research for that upcoming Razmiran sourcebook, Jason.

So, now that Paizo has the Gauntlet, does that mean Thanos is coming?

Thank you, everyone, with a special shout out to those who contributed (even if you didn't contribute to Paizo). The event raised over $25,000 for charity and was a blast, so the real winners are the kids!

All of the teams were fantastic and terrifically fun to play against. A special shout out goes to the Removed from Play podcast, who were wonderfully good sports and sacrificed an truly beautiful Cygnar warband. I had a great time meeting and hanging out with them, and look forward to seeing them again at Lock & Load in a couple weeks.

Again, thank you all. Without your support, we couldn't have done it. You prove again that we have the best fans in the business!

Well, that's it for me. I have a Jason to punch. :)

Can you let him update the ACG spoilers first? We want him clear headed :D

I think Erik is up on a mountaintop wrestling heaven itself with the gauntlet or something.

We can probably scrounge up a blog post. :-)

Presumably because of the time it'll take to attach the armor spikes, right?

Jason, do you think getting punched in the face with a gauntlet would fall under 'work related injuries' for insurance reasons? I mean, you were testing the damage output of a gauntlet right?
