OMG! The living wall is returning from 2nd edition!? ermygirglyspplooch

In all my roleplaying days, I've never come across anything more horrifying. I am ecstatic to see it returning. I hope it's as terrifyingly powerful as it was before (being mythic would be a good start).

It's a similar creature, but it's NOT the D&D version. That version isn't open content. The concept of an animated/living wall isn't against the rules, though; this one is very different in execution.
Is it as horrific? Is it made of flesh and bones? Or, God forbid, flora?

It's a neat creature, but it's not in the same calibre as the D&D version of the wall. It's not really a horror themed critter at all.

So, what's the difference between a dryad and a hamadryad?

Blood and winter hags – alwayas love me some hags. Would be awesome if we could have more hag traits that can be used for changelings!

Geists and manitou sound interesting!

More devils, drakes, and gremlins! Also, is that more dark folk I see?

Styracosaurus?! One of my favorite ceratopsians! <3

Pair it up with the Haniver and you get Murmaider :D

Beetle Geists;)

Killer seahorses and giant sea horses.

I am glad many of the creatures from Distant worlds made it in.

Just played in a Pathfinder Society Season 0 game with a sea cat encounter. Are there any more 3.5 Monster Manual monsters that need to be updated?

There are others that we could do if we were completionists, but we've picked up all the ones we're keen on now.

If memory serves, the sea cat was updated in Skull and Shackles and is now making an appearance here in the B4.

Seems like there's a few Aztec/Inca monsters in there.

Now we need a mythic bard/water druid named Toki...

;)

Extensive list. You know, maybe I'm just complaining, but with mythic out I was hoping for the pathfinder version of the Atropal, it is OGL after all and perfect for mythic (undead stillborn godling sounds mythic to me). Oh well, maybe bestiary 5, and on a related note I'm curious about the pooka, the mythological creature is particularly nasty, so this could be very interesting. Oh, and a clockwork dragon, now I have to paint that mini I got from reaper. Void and time dragons, I like this, I always wanted to get away from the chromatic/metallic dragon, this is great help. Weresharks, I remember them from a ravenloft sourcebook back in 2e, nice to see them back. So many interesting thing to kill, I'm really starting to love the pathfinder bestiaries.

Oh man.

I have wanted an archaeopteryx familiar since Planescape. :)

"Xenopterid" certainly has the imagination running around in circles at the moment. Extremely curious about what that is.

It looks like the Elohim is a single kind of creature rather than a new celestial family. Eager to see exactly what it is. :D

Glad to see the fleshwarps coming back in a big way.

...Broken Soul template returning... ;_;

Wait, stop, there are MULTIPLE COLOSSI IN THIS BOOK?

I recall six Demon Lords and I only count three there were is Orcus?

What is the Xenopterid? Alien pterosaur? please?

As with empyreal lords and great old ones, the selection of demon lords is not meant to be all inclusive.

And, if you can only remember six, you need to brush up with Book of the Damned volume 2. ;)

Orcus, along with Demogorgon, is one of the "hands-off" demon lords for Paizo IIRC. That is, they exist in-setting, but they won't do anything with those demon lords that represents them as similar to their traditional D&D portrayals because it would be bad form. Same reason they don't use beholder or mind flayer-alikes with the serial numbers filed off: Paizo's classy. :)

Orcus in all his glory is OGL in the Tome of Horrors, so they could stat-up Orcus if they wanted and have him even look like himself.

Orcus has been kind of played out though, honestly. I'd rather have Zura and Kabriri and Jezelda. Some of the new Pathfinder demon lords are sweet.

I love that this book has giant weasel and dire weasel. Now I wonder which is bigger.

Are the dark caller and dark dancer new kinds of darkfolk?

Similar question for soulbound mannequin and soulbound shell? Are they similar in execution to the soulbound doll? Following the same theme, I mean?

I saw this book has a pard in it. Isn't pard usually just a synonym for panther? Is the pard a cat-monster?

I want to see what a death dog is!

Can't wait for the updated nosferatu template.

The dark caller and dark dancer sound like new kinds of darkfolk to me as well.

I thought that the soulbound mannequin was a type of soulbound shell but maybe not.

Dark Archive

The presence of the Ostiarius greatly excites me. I've been waiting for that thing to get stats.

Getting a second Kyton on top of it is excellent.

Sure, I hope they don't continue down the road the Dark Slayer seemed to point at, but man...Dark Dancer sounds keen. And Dark Caller calls to mind some awesome possibilities...

of the new potential artwork, the Shobhad is what I am most curious about. IIIRC, The artwork for that critter is all over the place. The cover shows a monstrous blue giant, one of the interior pieces paints them as closer to Grays with extra arms, and the monster entry for them makes them look like relatively normal gray people with extra arms.

Einherji? Is that the singular of einherjar?

Mikaze wrote:

Somebody has to run the Dark Square Dances.

Other comments:
- Colour out of space: Let's see WizKids make a miniature out of this one.
- Immense tortoise: If this can't be confused for an island, I'll be disappointed. Oh, and let's see WizKids make a miniature out of this one.
- Rukh: I wonder how this is different from a roc.
- Shadow creature: I hope I can simulate the (original?) non-undead shadows with this. I could probably homebrew one easily enough, but...

Personally, I'm happy Paizo did NOT include the Dimensional Shamblers or anything about Shub-Niggurath. I like holding my Mythos monster stats close when running with another DM, and am glad these are privy to people who got Wake of the Watcher only. Purely selfish reason to be sure, but I feel that monsters like that are best relegated to dusty, obscure tomes (or APs that not everyone has).

Awesome list!

I'm not sure I understand the complaint, there are no 'secret' monsters, all of the content of bestiary section of Wake of the Watcher is OGL and posted on d20pfsrd.com (well redundant to saying OGL, they are posted legally.)

Lantern Lodge

Dinosaurs, Mythos creatures and Spring Heeled Jack. Could be the only Beastry I need

Giant Weasels rip giant flesh.

Dire weasels rip flesh direly. :)

The Rukh has two heads and this is the main different between them and a Roc.

Is it me or does it look like there isn't any megafauna?

Different sizes for different uses. You also might notice that we almost never present a single animal on a page. They are usually doubled up by species or theme or are on spreads like familiars. In a way you're getting more content, because there's really not a ton of stuff we can say as flavor text beyond what watching an animal show or clicking through the internet might provide.

Tuatara!!! Thanks from New Zealand. My next familiar has been chosen!

Liberty's Edge

I'm really hoping that the manitou are templates and not a single type of creature. I would have thought that manitou would have been a subtype, but if it is a template that would at least satisfy me.

More kytons- awesome.

I'm really curious to know what these "Nightmare Creatures" are. A template, I presume, but I've been doing some work recently on the Nightmare Dimension of Mentzer/Gold Box D&D fame, and wonder if these might fit into that mold.

Plus, more gremlins. There's a crapton of these guys out there now. We really need that First World AP.

(That's what, at least 8 now? 9 if you count mites.)

I'll just tease by saying there is more in this book to do with dark folk than just the dark caller and dark dancer. There's a related monster too.

A rukh has two heads, and typically resembles a vulture.

Graeae, Lampad, maenad, myrmecoleon, oceanid... awesome to see these. (I'm interested to see if the maenad is a fey ... is it a template... etc.) Lampades suggest so many cool possibilities (lower-planes fire wielders, maybe? Witches?)

Leaf ray? Killer seahorse? Mammoth flea? Wonder what these are...

How did the Brethedans, Oma and Shobhad get in here? I thought they were Golarion specific... (Especially the Brethedan as it actually has 'Bretheda' in the name...)

I wonder- are the Contemplatives the same as the Contemplatives of Ashok, just minus the Golarion-specific trappings? If so, that's another Distant Worlds/Alien creature in the Bestiary that will thus be easily accessible for, say, a Swords and Planets module/AP down the road... :)

I guess that would be one of the mysterious new fleshwarps!

Elohim? James, did you just decide to stat a god? Or does the name have more menings than one?

Apart from that.. MORE DARK FOLK.!! Wuhu!!

This looks really nice. Great work.

I have seen that there are no CR 20+ devils and daemons in there. Are you going to publish some of these in the near future?
