A pipefox is a foot-long, furry, magical snake with the head of a fox. Often found either climbing in trees or snaking around pipes, these curious and stealthy creatures prefer to skulk about to observe and learn. Neither malicious nor particularly beneficial, pipefoxes love to gather knowledge and sometimes disseminate what they’ve acquired to those they find worthy.

There is no way your players will be able to resist the cuteness that is the pipefox. That is all for this week, next week I think we will take a look at a creature that will be very unhappy about all this sweetness.

There are 300 monsters in this Bestiary. I sincerely doubt this is the only monster from Asian folklore in there.

Glad you all enjoy this... thing; but definitely another reason I'm not digging this book.

Ruyan.

*shrug* Hard to judge a book because of one cute snake fox, when there are 299 other monsters (297 if we are excluding Grendel and Almiraj) that will probably fit one's tastes. I don't like cute either, but I'm not going to hate the book because one monster out of 300 is a cutie.

*points at bestiary 4's cover* Considering the range we already know is going to be in this book I highly doubt you won't find something that gets your gm juice moving.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to find a way to have a low level party run into grendel and not die horribly.

Well they said only limited Asian monsters will be in this book because of Bestiary 3 already had many of them.

If this is one of the few asian monsters in the book i'm not really happy as I rather see female ghouls with hooked hair and super fast weasels dressed in sickles.

Lol yeah. I think he's going to be the preoginator of ogres in my home setting, some kind of legend and mythical nightmare as much as a real creature.

Shouldn't the flat-footed AC be 14, not 13? You lose the dex portion of the AC when flat footed, not the size portion.

Why didn't they use the Japanese name like they have done for all the other monsters from Japanese myth?

Your right the flat-footed AC should be 14.

Well, if my kitsune sorcerer switches to the Arcane bloodline, I think I will be very tempted to get him this as a familiar :D

At least, I'm assuming that these will be available as Improved Familiars.

Edit: Quick thoughts on the benefits of this specific familiar. Greater Invisibility means it is amazing at delivering touch spells. It can also cast Vanish 3/day, so it can help out party members who are in danger by making them become briefly invisible as well. Divination, Augury, and Comprehend Languages are just icing on the cake.

Maybe to reduce confusion with kitsune?

I wonder....what does the pipefox say?

oh, c'mon...someone would've eventually gone there...

Ha! YUP! Awesome. That was definitely the first place I saw them as well and a HUGE reason I put them on the initial hit list for Bestiary 4. :D

Any monsters from Touhou? I've been wondering how high a CR the Yatagarsu is...

Now I'm wondering about new races...

no new races...They are reprinting the races from the Dragon Empires (Kitsune, Nagaji, Wayang, Samsaran), I think the Changeling? and the ARG example races (Wyvaran, etc).

Here's what the fox actually says: Chaos Reigns.

Im not usually critical of my favorite gaming company but you will have to do better than this to entice me to get excited about B4. More mushroom people, less pipe fox. I can say without pause that I will never, ever use this creature ever.

I hope this will be the only pushback we see... And I really hope not only the PDF got pushed back... I really hate it if the book-order guys get it 2 weeks before I do because I will spoil myself to death and then the book won't have the same impact on me when it suprises me... I hate these massive (whole book) spoilers, some minor spoilers I love but the whole book with Mikaze telling all kinds of cool stuff about the monsters is murdering my curiosity...

I know what my least favorite art would be, the clockworks in bestiary 3 artstyle is my least favorite artstyle + Vouivre's artstyle in the Adventure Path, that is also a artstyle I don't like, so any creature in that cartoony artstyle is my least favorite artwork, all Girtablilu-kind of artwork is my favorite.

This pipefox (while I don't like it) has beautiful artwork, Grendel has beautiful artstyle, Almiraj i'm happy about, the Bodythief plant has cool art as well, so there is no bad art up till now. Hope the Argus isn't a victim of Cartoony-art tho, and I hope Vouivre is drawn by the same guy/girl who drew Girtablilu.

There are none (*). Except the new ones that were featured in the ARG. But now Bestiary stated. From what I understand.

I wonder if we will ever see a pipe fox swarm.

My summoner will be happy he has a reason to smoke a pipe.

Typically when they move the pdf date back they also move the book release back. As for subscribers getting an early copy...well that is one of the best perks of subscribing.

Personally...the moment the people start getting their shipping/download notices, I am going to peace out from every bestiary related thread here. I like to page through my hardcopy and be surprised at what is present.

Really...? They wasted a monster slot for this book on this when it could've been used for a new Aeon or Inevitable?

Paizo is abandoning their cool monsters now... :'(

What exact monster you speaking of?? Since it was not mentioned in your post?

I do believe Markolius is refering to the creature featured in the blog post. :)

Paizo have made no secret of the fact that they don't have any plans to expand on the aeons at this point. Simply no-one among Paizo staffers or freelancers with enough interest in the concept of aeons to champion their cause.

Whether or not aeons are cooler monsters than the pipefox is certainly debatable.

There is no guarantee that everyone will enjoy every monster added into a bestiary. I don't even like some of the monsters in the original bestiary. Most of the 3rd one is useless to me. I also think the pipefox probably is geared more towards a familiar instead of a foe (unless as a familiar of the PCs' enemy).

Personally, I find the Inevitables and Aeons to be wasted monster slots that could have been used for "cooler monsters". I have no problem with the Almiraj, Grendel, or the Pipefox. And so far, I am liking the 4th installment of the Bestiary. I also look forward to the Tooth Fairy.

I agree with Adjule, I might not like this monster very much, I dislike the Aeons FAR MORE than this creature, the Inevitables I enjoy a bit, but they aren't my favorites I would't mind some evil Inevitables, but since that is impossible I won't miss them very much. (the best are here already (Marut and Zelekhut)

The Aeons are (after normal animals, playable races, Familiars and Templates which I don't like in bestiaries) the biggest waste of space for me personally in all 3 combined bestiaries.

I find them charming. This creature is a flavor monster. And frankly, I hope we see a few sprinkled through all the Bestiaries.

After all, we never would have gotten the loveable Flump otherwise.

Yiiiissss,OH MY GOSH.

I will make a half elf half genie magus with a pipefox familiar named after his favorite brand of tea....Kokoro.Who's gender shall remain ambiguous.

Argh,it's so awesome and cute Imma die.
