Male Gnome Artificer 5

More like 16 (the crit also uses strength modifier and so on). Only sneak attack damage is not doubled. Or damage from a goblin bane weapon.

Var darts in in an attempt to get to Phia. Unfortunately there is still a wall of fur and muscle between him and her to be dealt with. The bugbear was uncertain, but seeing Var's approach seems to sort all of that out for him- and to his satisfaction if his snaggle-toothed grin says anything. It obviously wasn't counting on Var's speed though. The ursine goblinoid is barely able to get its chain spinning before Var's sword darts out piercing through its hide armor and deep into it's torso. It looks down stupidly only just beginning to realize how angry and injured it is.

Hmm. Here's the thing. That's a bugbear you made it to. He's wielding a chain weapon with reach, but luckily for you is still flat-footed. Janras is right about the damage and it was noted accordingly.

Carried over:
Phia 21+
Snipers 21
Stalker 17
Isaac 11
Var 8+
Hobgoblin 8
Bugbears 8-
Janras 7
Feanor 6
Durel 4

The hobgoblin squaring off with Phia hunches back into a combat stance and grins wickedly. Unarmed he circles with her, free hand trailing through a series of arcane gestures while he moves in rhythm with her thrusts and feints. Eyes glittering he hisses, "Don't you know when to be afraid old woman?! Now! THIS is the time to be afraid!" The hobgoblin roars again this time infusing his shout with some kind of raw arcane energy. Phia feels it wash over her pure terror eroding her will to fight. Host, I have to get out of here!

That done he reaches for the dull silvery warhammer hanging from his belt and bares his teeth at Phia.

Someone roll Phia's save for her please? Her will save is +3
Fail = frightened 1d4 rounds, Save = shaken 1 round

The bugbear with the chain steps back winding up and his companion rushes in after Var, an enormous axe raised over its head. Var's breastplate catches the worst of it, but the pure force of the blow is staggering. The injured one lashes out with his chain shattering the tree's clay planter and sending terra cotta shards flying everywhere.

Bugbear (chain) 5' step to I7
Bugbear (great axe) 10' to J7
Var 12 damage

True! Thanks for the catch. I'll let someone else roll Phia's save... I've used my good luck for this round.

If I remember correctly, Oliver may be out of town this weekend. So we likely won't move along till Monday other than if anyone would like to roll Phia's save.

The image of Phia standing with Isaac and Durel (which has been frozen mid-gesture) flickers becoming translucent for a second then vanishes.

Technically that happened once Isaac started casting, but I only now remembered to mention it.

Thought I'd see if my store of luck would prove to be of use...

Phia's save 11=1d20+3

Not so much.

Male Gnome Artificer 5

"Darn, stormed off into melee..." His first option taken away, Janras aims at one of the skirmishers up on the next level and lets loose a bolt from his small crossbow.

Ranged attack; damage (1d20+5=14, 1d6=1)

Phia begins to back away rapier and kukri held in front of her, but panic clear on her face.

Janras bolt hits the stone railing of the floor above with a loud *clack* and falls down.

Phia will begin to flee on her turn. I'm going to use a flexible count on the duration. She's basically out of the fight for one round longer than when Nani makes it back or the duration I have secretly rolled whichever is shorter.

Janras you have cover (+4 AC) from the snipers, by firing from the stairwell where you are now. You also have a rail to hide behind.

Feanor is up, then Durel

I will be out of town until Monday as noted on the discussion thread

Feanor is up-
Durel is welcome to post as well. If Durel posts first, I will consider Feanor to have delayed his init to just after Durel.

Female Changling Rogue3/ Urban Ranger2

I am finally back, sent my hubby to Africa for the next 11 days so I am doing the single parent thing. What the heck happened I make a small trip to New York and come back to find that I am under attack. Thanks for everyones help while I was gone I will be checking these at night.

wb Nani :)
Phia represented herself very well in those opening moves, but the failed save will have you on the run now. It's no fun being knocked out of the fight but Phia will have to run one round (your next action), and then will be able to run back on the following action.

I'll give Feanor till this evening. If we haven't heard from him I will assume he's busy right now and DMPC him to keep things moving.

Feanor clutches the mask of the Undying Court around his neck and calls on their protection before moving in behind Var.

SA: Cast Magic Circle Against Evil

Uttering words of power with a gesture of seeking a beam of crakling lightning shoots from my hand seeking ray 1d20 +3 range touch [3,3 = 6 vs touch AC] [dmg: 4d6 = 10] toward the bugbear with the chain. Seeking Feanor's protection I then move to L4.

What type of armor is Var wearing?

Var is wearing a Breastplate +1 and carrying a heavy steel shield.

Var feels the cool aura of Feanor's protection as a chill tingle on the nape of his neck. He grunts his appreciation as his companions take up position behind him, their magics licking out to assault the enemy.

"I'll hold the line here -- let's take them down one by one," he calls over his shoulder, his eyes flicking between the hobgoblins as he carefully maintains guard with his shield.

For DM Ithuriel

Spoiler:
Sorry for the Late appearance. I'm alright with the spell cast.

Durel's arc of lightning snakes through the tower but (in an moment of pure dumb luck) the bolt curves around the bugbear at the last second missing him entirely. It hits the far wall with a thunderous crack, leaving a blackened scorch mark on the stone.

Overcome by fear, Phia withdraws cautiously making her escape on the bridge.

From above the goblins scurry around repositioning and with a series of twangs fire off another volley of crossbow bolts. Feanor's invisible barrier shimmers slightly as they approach and each bolt's trajectory alters slightly sending them off target. Still, Var has to raise his shield and catch one coming in too close and another manages to hit Feanor solidly.

Meanwhile the goblin spokesman who had been stalking you all, backs off yelling in goblin as the hobgoblin snarls and barks back in kind.

goblin

Spoiler:
"Brimstone! Enough! I speak for Krenuul here!"
In reply, "I don't bow to Krenuul runt! Out of my way!"

Durel - your bolt actually hit AC 7 rather than 6 (+2 BAB, +1 Dex, +1 Point Blank), but it was still too low.

Goblins on Level 1 move to G3 and F4. Feanor takes 6 damage

Isaac is up

Ah, yeah, I forgot the map.

This shows positions at the opening of Round 2.

The door nearest Isaac opens and a middle aged dwarf in trousers and an undershirt holding a rolled up newspaper begins shouting, "What in Xoriat is going on out..."

Half way through his rant realization dawns and his voice trails off to nothing. Eyes wide he promptly slams the door shut and those nearby can hear him furiously locking a series of bolts from inside.

Isaac

What's that thing in J6 supposed to be?

Grand Lodge

It's a potted tree. There are more on the floor above. It was clearer on the version I made, but photobucket compressed my map to a smaller size.

I'll give Isaac until tonight (my time) then move on.

M Human Beguiler 5

"Let me help you get your underlings under control." Issac says to the goblin leader. Issac moves to L3. Issac casts whelm on the threatening bugbear to subdue him. Will DC 16 5 points non-lethal damage

The bugbear with the axe tosses his head, but seems to shake off whatever effect Isaac's invasion might have had.

I'm assuming "threatening" referred to the one who hammered Var with his axe. I'm out of town until Monday. In the meantime...
Var is up.

Var is up.

Var grins over his shield at the bugbear infront of him, "Why don't you calm down and do what the nice goblin says?"

Using Combat Expertise to give +5 AC, give (19 +2 CoP +5 CE = 26AC). Holding an action to retaliate with the shortsword if attacked in melee by either of the bugbears (but giving all the spells a chance to work first!).

As Var holds for the moment observing, the bugbear facing him draws back his great axe for another swing while the chain wielding bugbear is falling back to give the hobgoblin room to get into the fray.

The axe comes crashing down in a deadly arc, but Var steps inside his guard and drives his shield up hard into the bugbear's forearms and elbows before the axe gains full momentum. The position leaves Var with the opportunity to strike out though the weight slamming down on his shield will make it difficult.

Nice work on the combat expertise. It alone saved you from another solid hit.
You can take your readied attack now.
MA: The Bugbear with the chain is 5' stepping to J8

Var punches forwards with his shortsword, flexing his knees slightly to absorb the weight of the axe strike.

Short sword attack (CE -5): (1d20+4, 1d6+4=[12,4] = 16, [4, 4] = 8)

Var draws back to thrust his sword into the bugbear's midsection, but it manages to throw a kick driving him away and putting some space between them. Just then the chain comes crashing down from behind the axe-man, but quick instincts save the soldier yet again as he nimbly steps aside and reassesses the situation.

The wild-eyed hobgoblin charges in at top speed throwing himself past the axe-man and nearly knocking him aside. He snarls, "This one is MINE!" buckler held forward and his hammer drawn back already swinging as he closes the distance. Var again manages to get his shield up to meet the blow, but this time the force of it carries through the barrier leaving his arm tingling and throbbing with pain. Once he breaks away the soldier grimly notes a hammer head sized dent in his shield.

Var 6 damage. No damage to your shield. I'm just taking liberties with description. But you could also take it as a warning- the hammer is adamantium. Var will recognize that now due to coloration and the ease with which it punched a dent in his shield.

The hobgoblin has delayed his init to get into position and now acts after the bugbears.

Axe-man @ I7 (He took a 5' step to get out of way)
Spiked Chain @ J8
Hobgoblin @J7

Janras is up

Grand Lodge

Hey guys, check over in the discussion thread and weigh in please. I have some questions for you and am looking for advice regarding organization and flow of the game. Thanks!

Janras, hunches down behind the railing of the stairway considering his options.

Janras delayed. Step in whenever you have a chance.

I take my scroll in hand and cast from it.

I then retrieve another scroll Scroll of Mage Armor in hand

Feanor silently grips his enormous falchion with both hands and dares anyone to step within his reach. Meanwhile Durel casts from his scroll and seems to step out of himself in all directions at once. The swarm of Durel's simultaneously reach into their scroll cases and unfurl another parchment as one. From the stairwell, Janras slides another bolt into his crossbow and rises up enough to take a shot. His bolt sails well over the railing above and the goblins cackle while they reload their own crossbows and peek over the rail to note targets.

Janras> 3+5 = 8

Round Three Init
Feanor 22 (the tanglefoot bag is starting to dry out, but still impedes movement for now)
Phia 21+ (runs back and may make one attack vs the bugbears in back this round if she chooses)
Snipers 21
Stalker 17 (showing no intention of entering combat)
Isaac 11
Var 8+
Bugbears 8+
Hobgoblin 8 (seems intent on Var)
Janras 7
Durel 4

Ok we are moving to a more fluid system of resolution as of now. Everyone should declare their action for round three now. If you want to ready an action, make any rolls it might require with your declaration. I will resolve everything in one post following init order. If I haven't heard from your char by Monday evening I will DMPC them to keep things moving.

Round Three Map

Refresh if it shows the old positions.

The map shows Phia in her original position. This is how far she could make it if she chose to move back an equal distance to what she fled last round. This would put her in attack range of the seriously injured chain fighter Var stabbed through the midsection. She could of course opt to stay further away for a ranged attack or anything else she might want to do.

Janras> You no longer have a cover bonus from the goblin in G3. He has a direct shot if he leans over the railing and targets you.

I forgot that it's Labor Day weekend in the states, so I guess I'll just have to be patient.

Var risks a brief look over his shoulder as the hobgoblin approaches, checking his companions are getting into position. Maintaining his careful guard for now he grins at his foe over the lip of his shield, then edges forwards with a series of feints and thrusts.

Short sword attack (CE 5): (1d20+4=21, 1d6+4=9)

My action's will depend on if I'm hit big or not. If Durel takes damage >= 10 hp then I'll cast Mage Armor from the scroll in hand, else I'll cast another Seeking Ray 1d20 +3 (+1 if Point Blank Shot applies) at the nearest enemy to Var [12,+3 (+1)] = 15 (16) for 4d6 dmg [2,6,4,6] = 18 dmg. Also try and stay within the protection circle of Feanor

Janras> Correction: You still have cover from both goblins. I must have been half asleep when I wrote that you didn't because I completely drew that out of nowhere. They can't even shoot at you at all from their current positions because you are behind them on a floor below. Never mind me.

Feanor> I'm not sure how to best resolve your attack. The only way you could get to an opponent to attack is by sharing a square with the potted tree, which you could do, but would be sure to cause some penalties. Let's say 1/2 of the squeezing penalty so -2 att / -2 AC. I'm reluctant to do that without asking you since you still have penalties from the Tanglefoot bag. You can go for it if you want, but I'll give you the option to change your action first and we'll add it on as an addendum to this round.

Halfway to the next tower the overpowering fear driving Phia ends abruptly. One second she was running for her life and the next wondering what just happened. Slightly chagrined, the changeling turns and runs back. The bugbear with the chain's ears prick up at her approach and he turns to face her. His cheap hide armor is stained with blood running from a wound in his midsection, but he spins his chain at his side challenging her to try him.

Phia does just that rushing her huge opponent. His chain lashes out, but she stops short jumping back just out of range as it whooshes by. AoO As the chain continues its arc passing her, Phia darts in thrusting with her rapier which punctures his armor but deals only a glancing blow. Her followup, a wide cross slash with the kukri, opens a gash across his lower stomach right through the hide he is wearing. The bugbear yelps in pain and blanches, clutching his stomach with one hand while continuing to work the chain with his other.

Above crossbows twang in quick succession. Two of Durel's images vanish as bolts pass through them striking the wall behind. Another is deflected by Feanor's ancestral ward, while the last still manages to graze his shoulder after being turned off course.

The goblin cackles when Isaac tells him to get his men under control, "MY men?! Hoo hooo!" Then over his shoulder, "Hear that boys? Longshanks recognize leader material even if you don't!" Then back to Isaac he says, "I think we'll talk again, you and I." So saying he strikes the stick in his hand against the barrier wall and thick smoke begins to pour off of it. The cloud of smoke trails behind as he makes for the stairs and then becomes stationary expanding to fill the stairwell.

Isaac focuses his will again and lashes out at the axe swinging wall of fur and muscle now headed to meet Phia. The bugbear staggers mid-step momentarily clutching his temples with one hand, but steels himself and brings the axe to bear.

Var is focused on the hobgoblin, and for what it's worth the wild-eyed nearly unarmored hobgoblin appears to be enjoying it. Var feints and jabs and the hobgoblin tries continually to catch the sword point on his buckler, hammer raised over his shoulder ready to followup. Eventually Var makes his move, lunging in, but finding his blade forced off its initial mark by some unseen force. Still, even driven downwards the thrust was hits his opponent in the thigh enough to elicit a grunt. Immediately the hammer falls with force, but Var again catches it on his shield with a resounding *CLANG*.

The chain spinning bugbear recovers enough to stumble backwards and his partner with the axe is eager to step in. A little too eager for his own good maybe. The axe zooms by Phia but she barely even has to step out of the way before it strikes the wall with a spark and sends chips of stone flying. The chain lashes out again as well, but he is clearly more concerned with his injuries right now than pressing the attack.

A ways behind Var four Durel's begin casting and a writhing bolt of lightning snakes around the fighter to blast his opponent. Even so, smoking and somewhat blackened from the blast, the hobgoblin tosses his dreds and slaps his chest with the buckler strapped fist.

Janras reconsiders his crossbow. Nearly every potential target is locked in melee now making them difficult to hit without risking hitting an ally. So the gnome pops a scroll case and sneaks up the stairs into the open floor. When he finishes the bugbears find themselves standing in a thick field of grease coating everything around them. Both freeze in place treading extremely carefully to keep their balance. The hobgoblin isn't so lucky. As he was going in for a strike when the grease manifests, he continues to spin with the momentum and crashes to the ground trying to right himself.

Feanor> 3pts of damage from the crossbow

Round Four Map

Effects Counter
Tanglefoot bag - Will crumble on Init 17. Feanor acts with no tanglefoot penalty after that.

Magic Circle vs Evil - +2 AC / +2 saves, 10' radius of Feanor
Grease - Will end just before Janras turn (Init 7.5)
