We've said it before but it bears repeating: when we asked you to help us sort through the wondrous items for RPG Superstar Round 1, we had no idea just how dedicated our fans truly are. We had almost a half million total votes cast. That's at least 8,000 hours of cumulative time spent ranking items, or the equivalent of one person* working full time for more than four years—all over the course of a single month.

  • Number of Star Voters (100 votes): 592
  • Number of Dedicated Voters (500 votes): 231
  • Number of Marathon Voters (1,000 votes): 84
  • Number of people who voted exactly 99 times: 8
  • Number of people who voted exactly 501 times: 116

Special thanks go to our three Champion Voters (5,000 votes):

The judges are combing the results right now, and the top 32 items will be unveiled Tuesday, January 22 at 2 p.m. Pacific time. If you haven't started on your Round 2 archetype for the River Kingdoms, you'd better get busy!

No, but they'll announce the Top 32 on Tuesday.

Thanks all! (mumbling)for making me feel like I had nothing better to do for the entire voting period

When a number is attached, the time sinks seems so much larger. I was pretty close to Marathon by the end of the first weekend. I would have earned Dedicated just voting at stop lights traveling to-from work.

Last Thursday at the game store, we played a game where someone would read off an pair of items and I had to be able to give a synopsis for each item from memory. I was accurate about 80% of the time.

Well voting is over and I am going through withdrawal. Gary was my pusher and the damn smart phone was an enabler...

I'm having some of the same withdrawl issues. I keep coming back here by muscle memory.

Congratulations Thomas Voting Super Star.

Star 59,200 Votes, Dedicated 115,000 Votes, Marathon 84,000 Votes and Champions 18,500 Votes making The General Paizo Voting Public without a Tag the largest voter block at 222,300 Votes with a Half a Million Votes.

Rough Order of Influence from Top to bottom with half a million votes:

General Public without a Tag at 44%

Dedicated at 23%

Marathon at 17%

Star at 12%

Champion at 4%

The more I voted the more flaws I saw with my own submission which was quite improvable with an hour of effort after getting to vote. Best luck to all.

Sczarni

Congratulations, everybody!

I sure wish I'd had more time to vote myself (not to mention, I wish I'd had time to actually enter!). I didn't even make Star. But just like CHEERS said, every time I did vote, I saw something that could improve my own item designing chops.

So I can confidently say that next year, the item I submit will be approximately 0.02% as good as CHEERS's.

The voter titles are cool and all, but how about titles for those of us who have submitted to the contest every year? I'm certainly a "Dedicated Submitter," but I don't think you can call me "Champion Submitter" since I fail to crack the top 32 every year.

I'd be interested in to see statistics on that. I hope I'm not the only chronic hopeful that has entered every year and not made the top 32. Maybe this will be my lucky year. It is certainly my most "Superstar" item based on the judge's preferences.

that would be interesting to know, but we will probably have to identify ourselves :)

Gary, how many voters were there?

True, Sean is a Superstar & I am sure if he dinnae have a "judge" tag, Neil would have a "marathon" or better tag :)

EDIT: Clark, Sean, Wolfgang and all the other Paizo folks, probably have some pretty hefty item counts too.

Those are the minimum possible numbers. Each Star Voter could have as many as 499 votes, each of the 113 Dedicated Voters who didn't have exactly 501 votes could have as many as 999 votes, and each Marathon voter could have as many as 4,999 votes.

Actually, Neil's "papa" and "contributor" tags are doing a fine job of keeping that from happening, as well as keeping him from holding the "judge" position for this year.

I probably could have voted more, but the timer started getting to me after a while, especially when I was voting on the same items for the eighth time.

Having to wait 59 seconds to vote on something I made a decision on in the first was a major time sink. They probably had a good reason to put in the timers, but I could my breakpoint was always two substandard items I'd seen ten times before, and having to wait...wait....wait to vote. That's when I had to call it a night.

Kudos to the people who stuck it out. Wow, that is a LOT of voting.

This is what burned me out as well, most especially if it was the 5th or 6th time I'd seen the same item that annoyed me in the same 20 minute period.

That said, I'm very glad to have been part of the process. As usual, well done all.

Thomas L., I am now shuddering at thoughts of a Superstar Trivia game... "What is 'the tenebrous spork of daemonic benevolence and bad-assitude™ ', Alex?." Yikes. You, sir, are a man of uncommon patience and I salute you.

Well, here's an unusual benefit from the voting this year...

All the time I spent voting, I wasn't feeding my face with Christmas goodies... or huge roast dinners - I simply didn't have the time for the cooking >.<

Now I admit, I was cutting back a little prior to the competition but oh my god, has the no snacking paid off! :D

Net result - I lost weight for the first time in ages and I am now lighter then I have been in the last 7 years!

Needless to say, I am going to work really hard on keeping it off and maybe doing even more!

For the tally, I lost 18 pounds in the last 2 months!

Now that's an unusual voting stat for you!

IF the voting system is the same as next year, especially if it is deciding between two random items after waiting 60 seconds, I will certainly not make Marathon again.

Getting to see most of the items was very educational. I wish I could have seen all the items.

I've posted before on the subject, I think there would be a much better use of that four years of people time in giving everyone 32 and allowing them to sort the lists with a 1-100 tag before assigning their 32 votes. (As in later rounds, votes can be changed before the close of voting.) Even if someone does not get through all 1000+ entries, whichever amount of the 32 votes they did give would be a better use of time than randomly voting between two items after waiting 60 seconds....

Part of me wanted to go Champion, but the parts that wanted a paycheck, food, sleep, and sex won out over that part of me. It was a strong enough voice to get me to Marathon, despite all those competing desires.

Very impressive voting power, I would have voted more, but comparing items really got to me after some time. (You really would not want me as an editor, apparently I am an %$§”§$%§ when it comes to things like this, but hey I really liked some items).
Those who have invested so much time, should consider a job in the industry – that stamina is a serious talent.

I feel sorry for the people who got 99 votes.

This is coming from a Star Voter who gave up on getting to Dedicated after what seemed like it was taking forever.

This blog explains the message board tags unfortunately that is as as specific as it gets. So it appears you voted fewer than 100 times but you wouldn't have an exact total unless you kept count.

I really liked voting for pairs. Too bad we can't do the same for the archetypes. Only 992 possible combinations. I can easily finish that in a few days...

Barring that, it would really be cool to see a real Condorcet poll!
