Oh, I can't wait! We've never been to Paizocon, and my husband and I are about as nuts for Paizo as we can be. We need to make reservations - has anyone had any trouble recently? Are they all set up to receive for the Paizo discount now?

Edit: Mike while on that subject that you most likely have a lot of time before you need to worry about, make sure you look at Mark's lessons learned list from PaizoCon and GenCon.
Mid-January is when I am aiming to put out the call for GMs, followed by mid-February for Gen Con GM call.

I'm hardly an expert, but I have been to a few conventions, big and small, so at least I'm an experienced amateur. :-)
My advice would be as follows:
1) Have fun. If you're not having fun, do something else. There's enough going on at any convention to allow people to do this, and PaizoCon has a LOT going on.
2) Talk to people. Last year was my first PaizoCon, and I was nervous as a cat -- intimidated by names I recognized and by being around the Paizo employees (many of whom are, let's face it, essentially gaming royalty). My wife, um, encouraged me -- that's being polite ;-) -- to say something (and on at least one occasion broke the ice herself), and I found talking to them was soon as comfortable as talking to my gaming group. I made some good friends and learned some great things and had the time of my life.
3) Try something different. Even if that's simply playing with different people, do something out of your comfort zone. For me at PaizoCon last year, that was picking up a metal mini and painting it. I wasn't very good but I got better, and I had a good time trying something I had always wanted to do but never had.
4) Repeat.

RE: #2 I was in the same boat the first 2 years i went, and I have to say, the Paizo staff are some of the most fun, approachable people Ive met in the gaming industry. they really do put this con together in appreciation of the fans, so DO NOT be afraid to go up and introduce yourself and join a conversation. Obviously, dont be rude about it, but from the top of the company all the way down, everyone has been exceedingly cool in my experience. this includes sitting at Lisa and Vic's table at the banquet last year with Bill Webb, Greg Vaughn, etc. Was a lot of fun! Very hospitable.

Closer to the con, we'll put up a list of events, some of which will be filled by lottery, some of which will be available for open registration, and some of which will be first-come, first-serve at the con. We'll provide more details at that time (if you really feel driven, you can look around to find out out how things worked last year, as it'll be much the same).
I'm going to have to cancel my trip this year. My wife is expecting (our 4th child) and the due date is mid-July. So, she's going to be 8-1/2 months pregnant by the time PaizoCon rolls around. Therefore, it's best if I stay home. And, quite honestly, from a financial perspective, that'll be better as well. Luckily, I haven't made hotel or airline reservations yet. Sorry to hear you won't be there, but hope everything goes wonderfully with the addition to the family. No pressure, but we expect he/she to be writing fabulous content by 2029!
As for advice for newbie PaizoCon attendees, I would say, just "run up to it and hug it!".
I live in England, and last year I went to the UK version of PaizoCon for my first encounter with the Pathfinder Society.
I cannot speak highly enough of the exceptional efforts of the people who organised the event, the fabulous GM's who made every adventure an UTTER joy, and how good it was to meet new faces who love gaming as much as I do. And from what I hear the US PaizoCon is even better!
The tradition of having a "meet up for a great meal the night before the convention actually starts" is inspired, and sets the tone for the entire weekend. You'll be gaming with friends, it's just that you may not have met them yet.
For me, this will be my first time at a US games convention. Given the airfare, it boiled down to choosing this or GenCon. Between the two, only one had "Paizo" in the title, so it was a simple decision.
I predict the "best thing about the weekend" will be something you didn't plan and would never have thought of.
Or possibly, "Lilith's cookies". From what I hear, they're worth the airfare alone!

Not really. My 13yo told me, and her siblings, the banquet was "boring." That's the perspective of an 11yo - the last time we got to Paizocon. So, we're not doing the banquet and you can not only feast on Dragnmoon's corpse, but also that of at least one of my offspring :-)

Alright ... so, I'm a bit confused here. I need a little help.
I am about to plan my trip (for my BIRTHDAY!), and I am thinking about making this into something more than just a pleasure trip.
I am actually a freelance artist, and I'm not sure what kind of exhibitors areas there's going to be, and I can't find an actual website for PaizoCon that has anything more than just text-based stuff. Every Con I've ever been to has an Artist's Alley (or something like that) for artists to buy space and exhibit/sell their work. I've wanted to freelance with Paizo for years, and I figure this would be an exceptional time and place to put my name in a few ears. But ... I don't know if PaizoCon has that kind of stuff.
Where do I look, who do I talk to, where do I get information about this kind of stuff? I'm not even certain what is expected for an exhibitor to put into a booth! Or how much one costs, or anything! Gah!

Nope. PaizoCon isn't a generic gaming con; it's a celebration of Paizo and the Pathfinder RPG, and all of our exhibitors have some form of direct business relationship with us.
I believe that we will have a time set up for one of our art directors to look over portfolios, though.
