PaizoCon 2012: Registration is Open!

Monday, November 7, 2011

We are very proud to announce PaizoCon 2012, our annual gathering of Paizo staff, special guests, Pathfinder RPG players, and members of our message board community! 2012’s event will take place on July 6–8 at the Marriot Redmond Town Center hotel in Redmond, Washington. In addition to the regular annual festivities, PaizoCon 2012 is a celebration of Paizo’s 10th anniversary, as well as 5 years of the Pathfinder Adventure Path! The entire Paizo staff as well as a community of Pathfinder gamers, artists, and designers will be on hand with special events created just for the show. If you’ve never had a chance to visit PaizoCon, 2012 is definitely the best year to start. And if you have been to the show before, we look forward to seeing you again!

You can order your $40 three-day convention badge today. While you’re at it, be sure to pick up a ticket to the highly anticipated Pathfinder Preview Banquet, where we show off upcoming products and reveal secrets you won’t be able to learn anywhere else! The banquet has sold out every year we’ve held it, so it’s a good idea to pick up a ticket as soon as you’re sure you can make it to the convention.

This year we are pleased to announce a new location for PaizoCon: The Marriot Redmond Town Center hotel, a great facility situated along an outdoor shopping center with plenty of excellent options for local dining and quality shopping (including a game store and comic shop!). The hotel features more space for games and seminars than our previous location, an on-site bar and restaurant, and more rooms for attendees. The Marriott has extended a special offer of $85 per night for PaizoCon guests, available until June 13th. Make your hotel reservation by calling 1-425-498-4000, and don’t forget to mention PaizoCon to get the special room rate!

Stay tuned to the Paizo Blog in the coming weeks for more announcements about our Guests of Honor, special game industry guests, and events. In the meantime, please check out the PaizoCon FAQ, which answers a lot of commonly asked questions about the convention.

Please also visit paizo.com/paizocon, the official homepage of the convention, where we’ll post additional details as they become available.

We’re delighted to host this convention again, and to celebrate 10 successful years in game publishing! Please help us celebrate in July by attending PaizoCon 2012. We can’t wait to game with you!

Looks like the banquet is sold out. I was planning to add tickets for some people who are now joining me, but it appears they're out of luck.

P-Con or Gen-Con... P-Con or Gen-Con...

What to do? I was at P-Con last year, so there's that... and a buddy has a hotel room in the hotel that adjoins the convention center for Gen-Con... I want to go to Gen-Con one time at least, but, but...

*sigh*

What to do?

Both. Go to both. :-D

And, in other news, it looks like I may get to attend PaizoCon after all.

This.

Having been to both, I can tell you that GenCon is a completely different experience than PaizoCon. The former is all about the grand spectacle -- practically everyone is there; the latter is all about the (relatively) intimate setting.

I personally find GenCon somewhat oppressive by Saturday, but Thursday and Friday are great.

Yay for Neil getting to go! :-)

That's sage advice, gents, but it's unlikely that I can do both in the same year. Non-gamer wife, and whatnot.

I really would like to see P-Con at the new digs, though.

*le sigh*

(Was gonna PM you, but it doesn't look like your profile allows it.)

I have one of those myself. She joined me last year for PaizoCon and we turned it into a bit of a vacation, since she'd never been to Seattle before.

I confess it would be much harder to do that for Indianapolis; though I have some friends in the area, nothing about it is particularly scenic, nor is it dotted with history as the Northeast would be.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If I were in your shoes, I'd think of it this way:

- GenCon is celebrating its 45th annual convention this year. They hit an all-time new attendance last year. It's jam packed. The staff of every gaming company is super busy just trying to handle the press of consumers who show up at their booth. It's that way every year.

- PaizoCon is celebrating their 10th anniversary. At a new (mo' bettah) location. Where you'll have direct access to the entire staff of Paizo in a much less stressful environment. You have a chance to attend the banquet and see sneak previews of super-cool products coming out from your favorite game company. This year's event is unlikely to be duplicated given the circumstances of the company's recent success and the 10-year celebration..

Now. If given a choice between those two opportunities, which one do you really think you should attend? ;-)

Can't wait to check out the new location...

Next up: Hotel reservations, airline reservations, event planning, game planning, and...oh, yes...clearing all that with my wife. :-D

Sheesh, I have to clear all that stuff with my HUSBAND. And considering we are apparently going to be in Glacier NP until the 7th ... *sob*

Someone convince my husband he wants to go to PaizoCON for his bday and our anniversary, hmmm?

Too funny, that weekend is MY birthday and anniversary too!

Seconded.

:)

Strange side story: I broke my hip in a strange accident when I was 13 years old. I developed a case of degenerative arthritis in the joint, and messed up the growth plate, resulting in one leg being shorter than the other and walking with distinct limp.

The Doctor's told me a few weeks ago that its time for a total hip replacement. But they can restore my leg length and grant me a complete and normal range of motion. I said "Let's get it done so I'll be recovered in time for July!"

So at PaizoCon 2011, I'm going to walk normally for the first time in 31 years! And my wife agreed to come to do some sight seeing in Seattle.

I can hardly wait. :D

Congrats Jim, but I gotta ask, if you are going in for hip replacement, why the dentist?

It makes me very happy to know Neil and Jim are gonna make it back this year! I'm especially happy to hear your great news, Jim. See y'all there!

I'll move this to Off-topic, to be considerate to Paizo. Seeya there.

To follow up on this: should someone unexpectedly find themselves with banquet tickets they're not going to use, I will be glad to take two off your hands.

And if one ticket happens to become available, I'd love to have that as well. I had no idea it would sell out so quickly!

hope the rest of the con doesn't sell out as fast. I'm waiting for word on how they're going to handle signups for society games.

It generally doesn't. There are reasons the Banquet sells out fast, like brand new product spoilers at the Banquet that are reserved just for the Con (and a few are reserved for GenCon too), as well as other cool stuff.

Though.. I've only been to one, and I'm understand it gets bigger every year.

Don't forget the Quiz, with a capital Q! Hilarity is pretty much guaranteed.

Let us hope the quiz doesn't take all night this time. I will be much better prepared this year!

The quiz....

Boy oh boy.

You know there are instances when correct spelling is required?

Last year, there was a question about what the name of James Jacob's office game was (according to something on this site.) James Jacobs got the answer wrong.

Oh that doesn't matter. By the time we get to answers requiring the correct spelling, my table is inevitably giving answers like "Toots McFlooglepants", "The Bloodless War of No Blood Except Type A-", "Yer Momma" and "Erik, with a 'k', Render of Worlds and Eater of the Candy of Small Children".
