Paizo’s Community Use Policy is a living document, and we’ve taken the opportunity to update it to make it more clear in how you’re allowed to use Paizo content for all the amazing things you create. We’ll continue to update the CUP as new technologies and opportunities come along.

There isn’t much of a change between the new policy and the previous one, but we hope that the reorganization and callouts for Twitch and YouTube make the policy easier to understand and encourage you to share your excitement about our games in the communities most important to you.

Much as we did with the Advanced Class Guide for Gen Con last year, we have also prepared 1st-, 4th-, and 7th-level pregenerated characters for use in the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign for Occult Adventures. These include all of the necessary rules needed to play the character, down to the abridged spell descriptions and class ability explanations. One of the unique challenges in designing these characters was the sheer versatility of them—especially in the case of the occultist, whose base statistics can change depending on how he allocates his mental focus. As a result, we presented those characters with a recommended distribution of points, and we're sure that a player who wants to shuffle those around can add to and subtract from a few modifiers if necessary.

Confessions of a Recovering Paizo Blog Addict

Thursday, October 2, 2014

Hello. My name is Mark, and I'm a recovering Paizo Blog addict.

When the Paizo Blog first started back in spring 2007, I was new to the Pathfinder fan community, and to be honest, Pathfinder wasn't even a thing. I rarely read it, because I wasn't quite sure what the people who made my favorite magazines thought they were doing making D&D content that wasn't officially approved and licensed as canon and therefore allowable in my game (yeah, I was one of those gamers). I read the blog occasionally, but that was it.

Then I started working (rather obsessively, I might add) on Pathfinder Wiki, and suddenly the blog was really useful, super exciting, and checking it daily became a big priority. Big isn't even the right word. I used to check religiously every day at blog time for the latest update so that I could add any newly revealed hints or secrets to the wiki, whether that was a spoiler about the monsters that were going to appear in a new Pathfinder Adventure Path volume or an image of Aroden creating Absalom.

Now, it should be noted that at this time, blogs were scheduled to go live at midnight. I was then living in New York City, so that was 3 AM where I was. And like the dedicated fan-boy I was, I stayed up until 3 to be the first to comment on each one, then I'd go promptly to bed. When there wasn't a blog or it wasn't on time, I got upset that I'd waited all night and forgone sleep for nothing. So entitled was I that I created an alias called Blog Police to remind the fine folks at Paizo that they'd "forgotten" a blog or neglected to include art in it that I could use under the Community Use Policy.

Oh how things change!

All this is to say that today's blog is being written after it was supposed to go live at noon. I'm sorry if anyone in Sydney has been waiting for a 3 AM blog. Here it is! And it's got art! And it's a preview of an upcoming book, Pathfinder Adventure Path #87: The Choking Tower by Ron Lundeen! Plus, a bonus wallpaper for download!

And because I've been asked several times, the pattern of 1s and 0s used on the palms of the mittens isn't meaningful, but you could certainly devise one that is (for example, this early project of mine encodes an E. The length of the message you can knit depends on the particular binary code you use and whether you use 1s and 0s or black versus white stitches—you'd have about 12 characters with 8-bit ASCII using 1s and 0s, but 276 characters with 6-bit ASCII using black versus white stitches.
Paizo's Community Use Policy is a great tool for members of the community to use to share their passion for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and the Pathfinder campaign setting. Whether such projects take the form of fan fiction, a wiki cataloguing the continuity and canon of the setting, or a series of handouts or posters to advertise a local convention or game day, the CUP allows for non-commercial use of Paizo's intellectual property, including some pieces of art. Many of these art resources can be found in the Community Use Package here on paizo.com, but also on this very blog.

With the launch of the Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path, we thought it would be helpful to the community to release some images of demons into the Community Use Package via the blog so that folks can use them legally to promote the adventure path and the Pathfinder Society's Year of the Demon metaplot. So take these images and use them in your Pathfinder community project. We can't wait to see what the creative minds who read this blog can come up with!

Demons Invade the Community!

Saturday, August 10, 2013

Click here For more information on the terms of the Community Use Policy and a registry of existing Community Use projects.
