Sister Olga Lackman wrote:' Anyone familiar with architecture?" She says as she finishes cleaning with the conjured water."Stonework, aye.
Tha' wood barrier, nay".
"Wood barrier? Someone built a wooden wall down there?" Mat sounds interested.
Once he sees it, if he takes 10 he'd get a 20 for Kn:Engineering or 23 for Dungeoneering or Local- would any of those help answer the question the party is asking?
Ceirn
"There were some gnomes on it. Whether they died on the barrier or were added later, I could not tell you. We should try and take them back up with us when we are ready to return." Ceirn says.

"There were some gnomes on it. Whether they died on the barrier or were added later, I could not tell you. We should try and take them back up with us when we are ready to return." Ceirn says.
"On it? As in, impaled on it?" Mat frowns and shakes his head. "Sometimes this place is just ridiculous with how terrible it gets. And they were surface gnomes? Not deep gnomes?" He stands ready to follow the group to this barrier.
Sister Olga Lackman
' It is a sad, though I believe these fine souls are enjoying the glorious festival and dance that is the afterlife. The stress and sorrow of the world is gone, unburdened, they can live in the joy and warmth of their gods!" Olga says with a warm smile. One that is for those who died fighting something debilitating.
Relgion: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
"May these souls seek the solace of the Golden Hills. The beauty of the halls and homes of the Gods. May they find peace and solace there." Olga says softly to the air.
Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard
"Amen." Vondal responded as he got off the floor, reading his shield and magic sword.
Oh Morndinsamman! the godling thought to himself. Her soul seems crafted from mithril, as he body that of marble.
"One quick channel before we go."
Channel Energy: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3, 4) = 17
A wave of positive energy radiates from the ragged dwarf and envelops the group.
RIZZENMAGNUS
there isnt much to examine of this "wood barrier" that the group claims to have been standing where they indicate. small bits of wood, no larger than your hand litter the area, leaving you nothing to examine and attempt to ascertain who, or what, could have built it.
Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard
Vondal stands near the ruined wooded barricade, Gloryhewner at the ready. Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Kern Kant
Kern sighs as he's bathed in the holy burst or Vondal's easing his wounds, "Aye, time ta' kill more o'... what'ev'r's down in tha' place".
Perception - 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17 - Battle Axe is in his hand at the ready.
Mat Downshadow
Mat whistles appreciatively at the tiny bits of debris that were all that was left of the barricade. "You guys do not mess around." He looks back at the group and gestures at the T-intersection ahead. "Which way were you heading? Want me to check it out first?"
Perception: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (15) + 23 = 38
DM, away from the group's light sources what is the ambient light level? Mat gets some bonuses in dim light or darkness, is why I'm asking.
Sister Olga Lackman
"First Mat, to whom should I pray on your behalf? I do wish to make sure you get the proper respect for your god." She says with a smile as she lets her Iuon Torch blaze. She oddly also begins to pull a few shuriken in her hand.
"Don't mind my shurikens, I seek to be prepared, and these are my primary weapons." She says with a smile. A warm welcoming smile.
Ceirn
"Go right, we still have some vengeance to see to that direction." Ceirn says before adding, "Be careful, there were some traps that way. Including one that shot lightning around."
Mat Downshadow
Mat nods at Ceirn and gestures at Olga's ioun torch. "Let me get ahead of you enough to be out of the light then follow behind me. I'll circle back if I run into anything." He looks both ways at the intersection then heads quietly and carefully to the right.
i.e.- let Mat move 30' away from the torch so he's at least in Dim light so he gets his bonuses
Perception: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (15) + 23 = 38 (+2 in darkness or dim light)
Stealth: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 31 (+2 in darkness or dim light)

end of the magic zone is within the boundaries of Room 1, the room with pillars. as soon as you step on the stairs, the magic returns.
unless otherwise specified, there is no ambient light found within Undermountain.
if you look at slide one of the maps page ( i swapped the maps to bring the important map to the top), you will see a blown up section of the undermountain map and the indication of where the traps are. the three dots are a pitfall trap, and the leg traps are where the lightning bolt trap is located. I will say that the group informs mat of their location
RIZZENMAGNUS
let me set the scene before you go adventuring mat. you might decide to go left.
standing around the remnants of what was the macabre barricade, the subtle light from Olga's ioun stone pushes back the darkness for the tunnels that run left and right from where you stand.
to the left, the tunnel runs on into the darkness beyond. just at the far edge, you catch the glint of something reflecting the light.
to the right, the tunnel runs on, equally long, equally dark.
we lost a companion down the tunnel to the right Astrillith says in a monotone voice. Simon, a halfling. a founding member of the Balanced Coin Pac hisses softly, a subtle tone in the otherwise near quiet dungeon. We fought an ogre down there. death came to both. The woman looks to the left down there, we faced some strange creatures that smelled of death, of the recently unearthed grave. Pale, tall humanoids, tall as stands a human man. fought with stone axes and knives. More ogres as well.... Astrillith shrugs death came. death claimed them all.
Ceirn
"Some of those involved in his death fled back through the door and closed it. So we have some unfinished business." Ceirn says.
Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard
"It's not in my Nature to run", Vondal says with badassatry.
Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard
The aasimar just growls to himself; eager for revenge, but not willing to dismiss Olga's wisdom.
Sister Olga Lackman
" Never maliciously, just dutifully, it comes. A force we all respect. Though hopefully never alone nor forgotten."She adds to Astrilith's words with a warm smile. For she did not fear death, only a slight melancholy for that which has to end others' lives. A lonely road walked alone, and never a pleasant one.
"Oh, how lonely must death be, for every being he meets, none will ever know his name". She wipes a tear from her eyes and then smiles.
' I may dance with him to my ladies' hall. A little joy to bring into such a grim but necessary business."
Kern Kant
"Bah, tha's no death m'Lady Olga. Death is endless glorious battle! So sayeth Clangeddin Silverbeard hisself! Or leastwise so sayeth tha' clerics o' mah people", Kern retorts.
Kern Kant
"No, that's your afterlife for the Silverbeard. Death itself is an entity, One who ushers you along from this world to the next" She says respectfully of both Kern and Death.
Kern raises an eyebrow, "Izzat rite? I don' just appear o' tha' battlefield wit' me axe in hand? I s'ppose it dinnae matter so long as ah' end up at tha' fight!"
Mat Downshadow
The darkness beyond Olga's light is no problem for Mat's eyes but he just waits patiently for the group to decide which way they want to go. "Sorry to hear about your friends. I hope they're in a better place now."
Mat's the FNG he'll go whichever way the party wants to go."
Ceirn
"Go right." Ceirn says again.
We head right.
Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard
Vondal follows Mat down the right hallway, his eyes darting around for danger. Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Mat Downshadow
Mat nods at Ceirn and heads down the hallway to the right, staying in the dim, fading light at the furthest edge of Olga's light. He moves into the zone of dim light 30' away from the party's light source.
Want me to re-roll or just stick with those Perception/Stealth checks?
Kern Kant
Used to the howling winds of the north covering the crunching of his feet in the snow, he is dismayed by his own footfalls on the stone beneath, but he tries to be as silent as he can... Stealth 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5... which isn't very.
Mat Downshadow
How do you guys pronounce Ceirn? Do you have two party members called "Kern," basically? "Hey Kern!" *a dwarf and a human both turn and look*

How do you guys pronounce Ceirn? Do you have two party members called "Kern," basically? "Hey Kern!" *a dwarf and a human both turn and look*
Interesting observation, for some reason I have always pronounced Ceirn in my head with a S, like Seirn...also, we've only been in the same party for about 16 hours so far and half of that was sleeping in the Yawning Portal rooms!
RIZZENMAGNUS
i always pronounced it as CERN
Moving down the hall, the new guy, mat, quickly finds the location of the pitfall trap that hampered the group yesterday.
i moved mat and the party to where i think they would be in the hall. feel free to move your icon if you want to move someplace else on the map.
to disable the trap, its a DC 20.
Ceirn
Ceirn keeps watch behind them as Mat works.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Mat Downshadow
Mat gets to work disabling the trigger that opens the pitfall door.
His Take 10 Disable Device is 37 or do you require rolls to disable traps because there's an inherent danger in messing up, DM? I'll go ahead and roll just in case to keep things moving but he can't roll lower than a 28 on DD checks.
Disable Device, DC 20: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (12) + 27 = 39
RIZZENMAGNUS
@mat: im going to say that it would be best if you roll for disable device checks, as there is the risk of failure.
Mat Downshadow
Makes sense, will do.
Mat signals the group when he's sure the trap has been disabled. When they're ready to go he creeps on down the hallway.
Continuing down the hallway.
Perception: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (7) + 23 = 30 (+2 in darkness or dim light)
Stealth: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24 (+2 in darkness or dim light)
RIZZENMAGNUS
dang it! paizo hasnt indexed their webpages since 2024, so of course i cant look up the stats for the second trap.
Ceirn
"That second trap looked pretty bad when it hit people." Ceirn says as he follows along behind the others.
Mat Downshadow
Ugh, I didn't give him Spellcraft even though he has Detect Magic. That was stupid.
Mat points out the subtle trigger to the group. "Look there. There's a magical trap here. I will disable it."
Disable Device: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (17) + 27 = 44 (He can disable magical traps.)
Mat Downshadow
Mat looks back at the group. "Maybe you can tell by reading the runes auras?" Sorry for not giving him Spellcraft, that was dumb.
