@GM Matt: Are the baboon-men and toad-men charau-kas and boggards? We met some in the basement of the hellknight citadel so presumably we'd recognize them if they are.
Yes, you would recognize them, then!
Ellaeaanda
@Netkin: Only the PCs in bold may act in combat.
@GM Matt: May we assume that the construct was lowered down before combat? Vitus did say he would descend last.

Sorry my posting's been slow this week. Since I'm in Minnesota (and my workplace is right on the outskirts of Minneapolis itself) you can imagine what's been occupying most of my energy and focus. Getting caught up now that I have a day off to rest and recover.

Sorry, I had a bit of a crazy week!
I was also waiting on confirmation that I could reach Vitus?
Vitus is also behind a wall, if I'm reading that map correctly? I'm not sure I can reach him
GM MattMorris
I think you are right. It would be hard to reach him without going all the way around the baddie.
Vitus Dola
@GM MattMorris, I might be missing a shield block from the previous but I have Vitus' shield having taken 7 damage which means it's nearly but quite broken.
Shield Block #1 - 8 damage, 5 hardness; 3 HP off the shield
Shield Block #2 - 9 damage, 5 hardness; 4 HP off the shield
Ellaeaanda
@Netkin: I think I offered the Healer's Gloves to Netkin before, but now I think it might be better if Ellaeaanda uses them instead (because it gives a bonus to Medicine, whereas Netkin uses Crafting instead of Medicine)?
Ellaeaanda
Do we want to check the double door to the north or try to activate one of the gates? I have an idea for the latter--the Hunter's Arrowhead that was on the head cultist.
Vitus Dola
@Vrosi: that +1 Chainshirt can be yours. Looking back, I remembered that Vitus claimed the +1 Breastplate, just need the rune transferred to his full plate.
@GM MattMorris: Safe to assume that Vitus can find someone in town to do the rune transfer? Hmm, could someone in the party do it?
GM MattMorris
I find the rune transfer rules slow things down quite a bit. As long as someone in the group is trained in crafting, you can transfer runes during your daily preparation.

Here are the changes/choices for my level up:
Level 5 Investigator
Weapon Expertise: Simple/martial/unarmed -> Expert
Strategic Strike 2d6
Attribute Boosts: INT, DEX, CON, WIS
Ancestry Feat: Ageless Patience
Skill Increase: Nature to Expert
Skillful Lesson: Additional Lore (Elf)
Markus Swick
|
Level 5 wizard
Ability boosts: Dex, Con, Int, Wis
New spells in spellbook: Fireball, Safe Passage, Slow
New prepared spells (3rd rank): Fireball, Safe Passage, Slow
New ancestry feat: General Training -> Robust Health
New ancestry feat from Ancestral Paragon: General Training -> Toughness
Reflex saves increased to Expert
Skill increase: Craft (T to E)
Vitus Dola
Oh, Robust Health would be a great pickup for a lot of us in this party given the amount of Treat Wounds and Battle Medicine we end up doing.
Vitus Dola
@Markus: I believe that the Ancestry Paragon rule does not provide two ancestry feats at 5th level. Plus, General Training grants 1st Level General Feats. Robust Health is a 3rd Level feat.
Resa Dermade
I just got Elven Lore as a feat, then multilingual.
Weapon tricks, and then took additional lore as well.
Resa spent those few weeks learning Elven and their history and culture. She felt so disconnected from that side of her past, so she is over doing it a bit. It fits IC I think.

LVL UP:
Ability Boosts: Wisdom, Intelligence, Dexterity, Constitution
New Skill: Acrobatics (T)
Skill Increase: Diplomacy (E)
Ancestry Feat:
Necromantic Physiology: Your unusual physiology has developed in a way that makes it difficult for parasites and other infestations to prey upon you. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus to saving throws against diseases. If you roll a success on a saving throw against a disease, you get a critical success instead. If you have a different ability that would improve the save in this way (such as the battle hardened fighter class feature), if you roll a critical failure on the save you get a failure instead.
Class Boosts:
Powerful Alchemy: Alchemical items you infuse are particularly potent. When you create an infused alchemical item that allows a saving throw, you can change its DC to your class DC.
Field Discovery: Chirurgeon Your medicinal elixirs are quite fortifying. When a creature drinks an infused elixir with the healing trait that you have created, that creature gains a number of temporary Hit Points equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum 0); these temporary Hit Points last for 1 minute.
New Formulas: Frost Vial, Blasting Stone
Vitus Dola
Level 5 for Vitus:
Skill Increase: Intimidation to Expert
Ability Boosts: Str, Con, Wis, Cha
Ancestry Feat: General Training -> Incredible Initiative
Martial proficiency to expert
Medium & Heavy armor proficiency to expert
Due to poor planning on my part, I can't take Robust Health as I intended. So, what I'm proposing is to swap Robust Health in my level 3 general feat and move Incredible Initiative to the level 5 slot. Same set of effects just in different slots. @GM MattMorris, you cool with that plan?
Ardoinel Oreflame
Level 5 Oracle (Cursebound Warrior)
3rd-Rank Spells
Granted Spell: Fireball
Attribute Boosts: STR, DEX, CON, CHA
Ancestry Feat: Elven Instincts
Skill Increase: Diplomacy to Expert
I'm a little confused on how heightened spell selection works for Spell Repertoire classes (this is the first caster of that type I've played this far): I know that I have to take the heightened version of the spell in my repertoire to cast it at that rank, but when I do that, do I have to keep the lower-rank version to cast it at a lower level should I care to? Or am I free to replace it with some other spell at that rank? Or do I want to just always cast a spell at its highest rank?
Ellaeaanda
For Spontaneous Casters, the spell must be in your Spell Repertoire for each level at which you want to cast it.* For example, if you want to be able to cast Fireball at both rank 3 and rank 6, you would need to have both Fireball rank 3 and Fireball rank 6 in your spell repertoire. (But as a practical matter for this example, I think you'd almost always want to cast Fireball at the highest rank possible.)
So the short answer to your first question is 'yes'*.
*The one exception is if your spell is chosen as a Signature Spell--in this case you can cast the spell at any rank you choose, though you need only its one instance in your spell repertoire. For example, if you designate Fireball as your 3rd rank signature spell you could heighten it freely. So at level 20 you could cast it as rank 3 or rank 9.

Just managing and tidying up the Loot Thread. I've deleted all the items that Ellaeaanda took since they're now recorded on her profile; I also took the Marvelous Miniature Campfire (since it's so cheap it's not worth selling and there might be some situation where it's useful)--let me know if someone else wants it instead and it'll be yours.
1) Have Vitus and Vrosi transferred the armor runes? Shall we sell the breastplate and chain shirt they were on to add to party gold?
2) Any takers for any of the other items? Any items I should remove because they're now recorded on your profile?
Ardoinel Oreflame
Something just occurred to me. Did we ever fight that "Spider lady" the tixitog asked us to fight? I remember fighting spiders, but I think we encountered the barghest after that point, right around the time out new party members showed up...

Loot management
--I've removed the +1 Chain Shirt (taken by Vrosi) and +1 Breastplate (rune taken by Vitus, breastplate sold for 4 gp -> tracked in party gold under Ellaeaanda's profile) from the Loot Log.
--Any takers for the Predator's Claw Talisman or +1 Striking Silver Dagger?
