Xallis stumbles out of the way of the vile spirit before looking over to Navia. "Alright, I guess we're ruining that dress."

The summoner draws upon the home realm of his eidolon, syphoning raw essence and directing it into her body. A whole second form, hulking like a gorilla and the size of a horse, grows around Navia's body like a living cage. The upper half of her body protrudes from a cavity in its chest, her own hair tendrils connecting her mind do its body like some kind of monstrous child of Nex and Numeria.

Navia bounds forward, slashing at the enemy with her new body's scythe-like claws.
Navia's Claw (power attack, sickened, shaken, flank): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 damage: 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17

Casting evolution surge to give Navia the large size evolution. Xallis takes a 5-foot step to make distance.


Round 2

Navia slashes with her claw but the spiritual energy surrounding the ghost deflects the strike.

Navia misses.

Tychus rapid fires three bolts into the spirit. Its body sudden inflates like a balloon and then bursts in a spray of slime in all directions.

Tychus hits the festering spirit 3 times for a total of 31 damage which destroys the spirit.

Combat over. I was going to give Tychus a hero point for those rolls (even though he couldn’t crit.), but he’s already full. So I’ll have his good luck rub off on the rest of you and give everyone else a hero point instead.

After the fight, there is no reaction from anything else inside that you can determine. Nothing comes out and the goat is still the only thing you see on the main floor.

Depending on how quickly you enter the building at this point, some of your spells may still last. How do you want to proceed?

Jack scratches his head. "Maybe I should climb up onto the roof and try to lower myself on a rope to open the door? We can try to batter it down, but it would be much easier if we could just remove the crossbar." He frowns in a manner similar to Henrika. "If that goat is a demon goat, I might not make it to the door, though. Might have a better shot if more than one of us go. Even better if Sir Tychus here has the goat in his sights and could snipe it if it tries anything."

He looks at everyone else. "I'd suggest Dame Ren or Navia do it instead of me, but right now they're both too big to fit through the window, and that fact might come in handy once we get inside. Seems like time is of the essence. I'm not bad at climbing, though this plate armor slows me down a bit."

Tychus nods at Jack's suggestion. He walks over to the wall and tugs at the rope still affixed to the roof.

"She should still be solid. Once you're up, I can follow behind and watch over you from the window. In fact,... Abadar has blessed me with a sight that detects even the faintest hint of evil. I'll take a look at the goat before you lower yourself down."

Once everyone is in place, Tychus can use Detect Alignment at-will.

Henrika frowns in mirror to Jack's expression. "It is risky, Jack, you going alone. At least let us ensure that others are ready to follow you in if something should happen. Dame Trant? Sir Trevor? Ichabod? If Jack is prevented from opening the door, can you be ready to follow him down the rope?"

Henrika will wait beside the door, ready to charge in as soon as the way is clear.

I'll make the roll now so that we can proceed, but if anyone argues that we shouldn't do this I'm happy to retcon.

Xallis pats his eidolon's arm and nods. "If things go bad, we can break down the door from this side and come to your aid."

"Dame Trant is the climber of the two of us", Trevor admitted. "But we will follow as we can."


Okay, my understanding is that Jack and Tychus are climbing through the window while the rest wait outside.

Jack and Tychus climb back up to the round window and enter into the meat locker.

Jack Will save, remove fear: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 4 = 15
Duration: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Since it is the first time Jack witnesses the room, he has to make a Will save (and fails) and becomes shaken for 2 minutes. Tychus already made the save and doesn’t need to again.

They carefully climb down the other side and walk through the bodies to exit the room. The locker room door is unlocked and they can just push it open. The goat spots intruders for the first time and bleats even louder. It sounds panicked.

Tychus’ detect evil tells him that the goat is radiating a strong evil aura. Up close, he can see that it has the same pure black eyes that some of the other animals in town had. Knowing what you do about pairaka divs from your investigations, you have no doubt that this is one.

Whether is realizes you see through its deception or not, it just remains where it is, bleating and pacing in circles. Then as Tychus and Jack approach a little closer, they discover why. The jumble of slaughterhouse machinery lashes out with cutting saws and jagged hooks.

Tychus and Jack dodge out of the way of the rusty machinery, however, the trap may still be active.

Finally, the goat transforms. It grows in size and becomes a blue-skinned female humanoid fiend draped in revealing attire. She has a sultry gaze suggesting all manner of debased pleasures.

The fiend laughs. ”Ho ho ho. Welcome to my abode. We’ve been watching you for some time. It was only a matter of time that you’d find your way here with all the snooping around you’ve been doing. But now that you have, I’m afraid you won’t be able to leave. You may call me, Nazinina. Play with me. I’ll at least make your deaths pleasurable.”

"Thanks, but I'm saving myself for marriage." Tychus responds in his monotone voice, but lacing on as much sarcasm as he can muster.

He skirts the room while making sure he is always facing the pairaka. Trusting in his anti-evil protections, he takes a few moments to pick out her weak spots.

Move and Study. With Prot. vs Evil up, Tychus should be decently protected here. Hopefully.

Tychus moves and studies the pairaka.

Nazinina raises her hands up into the air and starts summoning. One wasp after another begin to appear and swirl around the pairaka’s raised hands as her conjuration forms. ”Hahaha! You say that like you have a choice.” she cackles.

Nazinina’s spell-like ability's casting time is 1 round, so it will finish on her next turn unless disrupted. She also takes a 5-ft. step north.

Jack rushes to the door, keeping a wary eye on what the fiendish woman is doing. He starts to quip something, but bites it back as he realizes that he should try to keep the thing's attention on Tychus rather than drawing focus to himself.

He will double move to just next to the door. Unfortunately we are too far from it to be able to remove the bar this turn-- too bad haste ran out just before we went in.

Henrika listens anxiously to hear if Jack is attacked. She silently casts displacement on herself, hoping that Jack will be able to get the door open quickly.

Trevor quickly taps Malphene's shoulder before her attempt to break down the door, using his Good Domain Touch of Good (Sp) ability, adding a +4 to her Strength check.

Trevor temporarily enhances Malphene’s abilities with touch of good then she rams her shoulder into the door and the bar on the other side shatters in two. The doors burst open and you can now enter.

Spellcraft DC 19:
Crushing Despair

Navia feels some large footsteps approaching, and Henrika can see it with her see invisibility then a snarling canine beast shifts into visibility. It has a goblinoid face and hands instead of paws. It unleashes an invisible cone of despair that washes over those in the doorway. Most of you resist the effects, but Malphene is filled with a sudden great sadness. A long, grotesque touch dangles out of the creature’s mouth; it looks at Malphene and speaks. ”I can sense the despair on you and it tastes delicious.”

Malphene takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls for 9 minutes. Jack, Navia, and Henrika passed the save and are unaffected. The walls gave Trevor, Icabhod, and Xallis cover so they weren't in the effect. The barghest was invisible and became visible after casting an offensive spell. The spell is not a fear effect for remove fear. It is enchantment (compulsion) [emotion, mind-affecting].

Then a second identical beast appears and bites at Tychus with razor sharp fangs.

Barghest – Bite vs. Tychus’ FF AC 20, protection form evil: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

The creature bites Tychus and shakes its head violently, tearing flesh.

The barghest hits Tychus for 12 damage. The barghest was under invisibility so it hits Tychus’ flat-footed AC but the invisibility drops after the attack.

Monster Lore

Knowledge (Planes) DC 17:

•This is a greater barghest.
•A greater barghest’s type is outsider (evil, extraplanar, lawful, shapechanger).
•Said to be fiendish relations of all goblinoid races, the hateful barghests come to the Material Plane to feed. As they consume the bodies of innocents, they grow increasingly powerful. A barghest eventually sheds its skin to transform into a greater barghest, at which point it often seeks out a tribe of goblins or other creatures to rule.

Knowledge (Planes) DC 22:

•A greater barghest is vulnerable to magic weapons.
•It can change shape into a goblin or wolf.

Knowledge (Planes) DC 27:

I think I gave the information on divs from the guy from the Savories restaurant, but I can put it here and save you a search.

•A pairaka is immune to fire, poison, and disease.
•A pairaka is resistant to acid and electricity.
•A pairaka is is vulnerable to cold iron or good-aligned weapons (DR/cold iron or good).
•A pairaka has spell resistance.

Note: Navia’s sickened condition wore off. She’s just shaken now. I’ll add +2 back to the attack and damage rolls.

She responds telepathically in Navia’s mind. ”Well aren’t you cute. I don’t do submissive. I’m always the dominant role. When I’m done with these humans, if you behave, I’ll let you join my harem.”

Navia hits Nazinina twice for a total of 6 damage after DR. (5 and 1). Nazinina succeeds on her concentration checks and continues her spell.

Tychus shoots a bolt that pierces the div’s blue skin. The force rocks her slightly but her spell is unspoiled. Communicating telepathically again, she says to Tychus. ”I see you like it rough. Don’t worry. You’ll get your turn.”

Tychus hits Nazinina for 10 damage after DR. Nazinina succeeds on her concentration check and continues her spell.

Finally, Nazinina’s spell is complete. The gathering of wasps has grown into the thousands and she points her hand down at those in the doorway and unleashes the plague of insects upon them.

The insect plague is 4 separate groups of wasp swarms that needed to be summoned adjacent to each other. The swarms are stationary after the spell is cast. The swarms can be damaged like a regular swarm could. Wasp swarms are immune to weapon damage but Henrika can harm them with her weapon because of the swarmbane clasp. Swarms take 150% damage from area effecs.

Nazinina attacks Tychus with a flyby attack but the attack misses. Navia gets an attack of opportunity but it misses. Nazinina decreased her altitude to 5 ft. up to attack Tychus in the air but increased her altitude back to 10 ft. up afterwards. She is 10 ft. in the air.

Jack rushes toward the battle raging in the northeastern corner. As he goes, he remembers what the group was told about these creatures, specifically that they cannot stand the color red. As he hustles toward the div, he staunches one of his wounds with his white undershirt, pulling it up from his jerkin beneath his armor. "Oh no," he says comically, "My blood has stained my shirt red. That's quite all right, I love the color red. It means valor, and passion, and it was the color of my favorite dog when I was a child. 'Red rover, red rover' I would say when I called him, 'Come over, red rover!' Look, Henrika, my shirt is red!"

What can Jack do with this and a standard action? Maybe we treat this as a dirty trick designed to affect the div like a demoralization? I can ready an action if the div needs to first descend or something like that-- probably the case if it actually is a dirty trick, since that's a melee attack. Ideally for me the mention of the color red enrages the pairaka and it attacks Jack instead of Xallis. If you'll let Jack do this without it costing an action, he'll ready an entangling dirty trick for when the pairaka comes within his range-- he'll grab its wings with both hands and pull, trying to tangle it up.

I’ll let you provoke the enemy as a free action and you can hold action to do a dirty trick. She will attack Jack next but will have to wait until her turn comes around. Also, she doesn’t have wings. She just supernaturally flies like Superman or something.
