GM, where is Kiley right now? She went running back to the temple to let them know about Elara's baby behir (babe-hir?) so I'm not sure if she's a part of the current conversation at the moment.

The behir is safely inside its cage back in the Inn, so it’s safe to assume she’s with the party again. Fast forwarding through the trips up and down is fine with me.

Hey, sorry for going radio silent this weekend. I've been dealing with a recruitment (trying to narrow down 32 submissions to 6 and there are a lot of really, really good ones in there) and a bout of depression-induced apathy. I'll try catching up tomorrow.

A heads up from me - we're currently in the process of moving house so things are more chaotic here than normal. Actual moving day is Friday but increasingly large amounts of things are in boxes and then will require a lot of sorting at the other end. I do have a chunk of time off for it so hopefully will be able to keep up but if I'm quiet that's probably why.

I'll bring up the same concern I had last time, of no arcane spellcasting. But of course I can just adjust things to compensate.

I'm easy either way. I think in PBP I'd tend to lean towards a higher number because everyone has times when they're able to be more or less active due to real life so an extra person means someone else who can help maintain momentum and keep things moving. It also definitely matters what you're comfortable with as a GM.

You can work around party shortcomings and weaknesses both as a collective in game to try and cover things, and - as you've noted - as a GM to be aware that certain things may be harder for a particular group. Few groups are ever going to be perfectly balanced.

I'm flexible but - gun to my head - I'd side with getting another PC in the game. I agree with Ari's reasoning on that. Also, having an arcane caster in the mix opens up more adventure possibilities for the DM without having to leave out or nerf cool encounters OR adding to their burden by having to supply a NPC caster.

While we wait for a final member to bolster your spellcasting capabilities, I have some good news! The next event will be you arriving at the Glade, which will push you to level 2! Feel free to work on your sheet ahead of time, and when we start back up we'll be ready to get going!

It's entirely your call, IMO. I'm fine with 1/2 HD+.

When I'm in the big chair, I provide the opportunity for a few more HP because I often build tough encounters, so I do (1/2 HD + the other half of the die) to give a range from 1/2 HD+1 to max. It looks like this:

d12 = 1d6+6
d10 = 1d5+5
d8 = 1d4+4
d6 = 1d3+3

I'm not suggesting you do that, just sharing my approach.
