The elevator moves almost silentely into the bowels of the building, and opens up to a secret laboratory - no security personnel, no cameras.

The hallways are austere with white and gray walls and light gray flooring. A bright pink line of light runs down the center of the hall. Touchscreens cover the walls and ceiling and run a loop of silent Dayside commercials while upbeat, bass-heavy agrosynth metal music plays through the lab’s sound system. Colorful spot lighting creates a dazzling array of color with each step down the long hallways. A circular lift to the Dayside facility far above stands in the northeast corner opposite a large, open blast door in the northwest. Near the lift is a second blast door, this one closed, labeled “ N e c r o t e c h . ” The hall branches to the south into a gentle curve.

Cha'mon checks the door for traps, and pronounces all clear.

The laboratory behind the door is separated into two areas. The north chamber is a circular containment unit with force wall panels that’s currently deactivated. Computer banks and touchscreens hang along the curved western wall with controls to activate the containment unit and log research findings. The south chamber is an operating room, with a high-tech surgery table, a collection of tools, and a grisly display of necrografts and preserved organs. A slim light path winds its way through the room and around the table, where a tiny drone idles.

There are three winged creatures with bulging eyes and sharp claws, which have been outfitted with necrografts. They immediately turn hostile as the door opens.

Containment unit can be activated using the control panel, which required a standard action and a computers or engineering check. Currently one creature is inside the containment unit area.

Shari, Soarin: I need you to list targets if there's multiple enemies... going to assume you concentrate on a single target.

Cha'mon utterly confuses the orange monster, then hits is with a needle pistol, which makes its movements a lot stiffer.

Shari follows up with a sneaky shot, singeing the soft belly of the creature. When Soarin blasts it with the disporan rifle, it falls dead to the ground.

Astran attunes himself to the bright lights surrounding him, giving himself a blue hue, and moves in.

Cha'mon injects the other free-roaming monster, and manages to completely obsess it with his stunting moves. The distraction is so bad that both Seldszar and arachne manages to bury it in laser fire.

The monster slumps to the ground, and with the last creature contained, it looks like the threat is over for now.

Combat over!

The small drone in the room immediately starts cleaning duties, which including wiping blood off the floor and shoving corpses away.

The computers are completely unsecured - not even password protected!

Astran searches the area, but concludes that all files are kept on the computer system. Downloading the data, which is trivial, should be sufficient record of what is going on here.

Seldszar grants the group Apostae Access as the computer system bends to his 31337 skills.

This massive laboratory is brightly lit, with curved walls of active computer screens exhibiting data along the east and west sides. Hidden in alcoves to the northwest and southwest corners, high-powered generators hum with power, thick power cables pouring from each onto a large, powered table in the center of the room. A slim light path winds its way through the room and around the research table, where a tiny drone idles.

A quorlu with a cybernetic eyestalk - easily identified as Lubose - is busy in one corner of the lab. In a bored tone, they say “Welcome, intruders. I’m afraid I can’t allow you to leave. Luckily, you’ll make fine test subjects.”

With that, he command a group of zombies forward.

Astran takes his fury out on the nearby zombie.

Cha'mon feels the decaying breath of the zombie draw closer, and is beset by two of them. One of them body-slams into him.

Astran draws a retaliatory strike from the zombie, while arachne incurs a dent from the last one.

That was super weird. I cleared my cache and refreshed on my work laptop, and now it makes sense...whatever, thanks for the assist. (Though in round 2 he does 1 more point of damage.

"Ow, that hurt!" Now full attuned, Astran goes supernova. Using his insight into the cosmos, he directs it not from within, but from close by. The two foes before him feel his fire! Fire: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10 REF DC 13 for half.

So out of curiosity, one day I gathered the courage to ask one of my colleagues from the 'afterlife' department about what the proper term is for zombies clocking out, and he just went on a fifteen minute rant about how those 'ghastly undead' are just 'a lot of paperwork' and that collecting their souls is a 'real pain in the backside'. He then explained that undead (he calls them 'undeparted') are - in his view, mind you - an abomination because the point of medical death and the point of departure to the afterlife are wildly different. The bureau of afterlife eventually has to reconcile all souls and bodies, and the whole administration still runs on old-fashioned ink-and-papyrus scrolls. I can't say I envy them.
