I'll be camping and at Scout camp from July 1-9 and have no idea if I'll be able to post while I'm gone. Fingers crossed, but please bot as needed.

On that note-- I'm travelling June 28th through July 3rd. I should be able to do short posts from my phone though. Hardest day might be July 1st since we're getting married and I won't have my phone all day.

Congrats! Also, going no-phone on your wedding day is an excellent idea. Thumbs up!

I'm sure your spouse won't mind if you're checking posts during the ceremony.

I mean... they may be an understanding nerd too... but nothing communicates “you are special to me” than leaving the world’s tech behind to focus your attention solely on your boo / baby / friend / relative...

It's been a bit:
For bravely and bardily tanking some hits while inspiring everyone throughout, Manny gets a Hero Point

Can >Clever Improviser< be used on Lore skill checks? They are trained only, but Clever Improv lets Manny make untrained skill actions, even if they can only bemade Trained.

Assuming you eventually continue onwards to the 'green' doorway (whether taking the shield, arrows, and flail with you an interesting IC question - as best you can tell there is not direct trap or curses connected to them):
An interesting question - what do you guys think?
Emmanuel Holysmith

Manny already got trapped by evil bathtubs. He's not touching anything besides the umbral vises, unless it's necessary to beat the undead.

You've been through a few more rooms now. Itka for your shadowy insights, guiding spells, and ability to take a WHALLOP from some water let's give you a Hero Point.

As long as they're not religious icons to a good deity, Franzine is fine with taking them. Are we supposed to bring back items we find?

From your Knowledge checks you would know that the three gods the shrine's altars are to - Neith, Osiris, and Bes - are NG, LG, and NG respectively.
And as a reminder, your main mission is to a) Find whatever is causing the undead to be traveling to the Sothis Lodge and stop it, and b) find and return the three missing Pathfinder agents who were left behind in the pyramid, or their remains So far you've found and recovered one; Janahar and Tetabu's trail vanished suddenly about where you found the first Umbral Vise
The Vigilant Seal would also prefer for you to bring the strange device - an Umbral Vise, though they didn't know that at the briefing - back for study (they also didn't know there may be more than one). While the Horizon Hunters are curious about the linked pyramid itself and are hoping you could find out about what it is and who it was meant for

I am of the opinion that using the weapons are fair game - however Hammid can only help to Identify them, but not use them. If folks are interested, we could backtrack and Identify them before deciding if we want to use them!

Hi all, sorry for going MIA. I vastly underestimated how much time I would have on the days other than our wedding day. But just got home late last night and catching up on things. And if anyone is curious, the wedding turned out as perfectly as we planned!

I've learned that last second planning takes up a lot of time- not to mention pre altar jitters.
You didn't miss much. Zenith took a bit of a bath.

Looks like Itka took a bath. Her frown just got more prodigious.

This encounter can be potentially a bit complicated with some factors, so if you have any questions let me know and I'm glad to elaborate!

The Mummy's speech reminded me of that mural we saw
Zenith however interprets the images' iconography as depicting a fierce battle between the forces of Set - the Ancient Osirion god of darkness, deserts, storms, and murder. Known as the 'Lord of the Dark Desert', in the paintings his army seems to be trying to stop the mortal figures from taking the falcon back from him. The kayal also sees inscriptions on the intact canopic jars that indicate they contain the remains of those who died in conflict with Set.
Moonlight has a similar reading of the art as Zenith does. The scholar does note a few other details though. First, the winged-cat creatures are sphinxes but the other winged humanoids are maftets. And even more importantly, based on the stylization of the falcon its regal bearing seems quite pronounced. the bird held by Set is meant to represent a stolen pharaoh.
Manny does not speak Ancient Osiriani, and it's not his turn. So I can't act on this info.

GM,
1. is there a check needed to disable the Umbral Vise?
2. Also, if Manny casts >Comprehend Language< (Heightened to 4th) can Manny understand what the pharaoh said at the start of the encounter?
3. Finally, >Roaring Applause< says that the target needs to "see, hear or otherwise understand you." It doesn't have the Linguistic trait, though. So if I cast it on the pharaoh, she should be able to see and hear me, right? I'm checking to see if she's immune because she (probably) doesn't speak Common.

1. To disable in a way it could still function later would be two actions adjacent to it (no check needed since you’ve learned a lot about how they work). You could also just smack it hard with something and it’d break for good - these things are very delicate.
~’Or maybe his head and lungs too. Just stab him wherever.’
-‘And the saber probably doesn't have to be bone.’
~’Yeah, just anything sharp lying around the house.’
-‘You could poke him with a pillow and kill him’
2.Retroactively no. If you speak ‘modern’ Osiriani there are enough similar words that you may recognize a bit or snippets but imprecisely.
3. I’ll rule here that the flourish could be visual and audible (but not needing to understand the exact wording). So a lack of shared language would not make her immune to that spell.

This is probably Hammid’s job this fight!
What do folks think?

Manny's initial plan was to talk to the mummy, as her opening speech heavily hinted at the mural's meaning.
Then the backup plan was to disable the Umbral Vise, maybe it's controlling her or twisting her thoughts.
Manny will gladly try to clear the way for Moonlight, assuming the Shadow Plane doesn't teleport Manny away.

I'm getting the sense that some of the other players have already GMed this, thus have knowledge of the narrative fabric, and are as a result refraining from weighing in?
I'm going with the idea Manny on a hunch - f&%+it!

Never played nor GM'd before and I've been a bit lost as to what's going on. Pretty crazy stuff.
| GM Zoomba |
Congrats!
And did you in Maine get hit bad at all from this weekend's storms? Or was the worst damage more to the west (VT/NH)?
Itka Biklest
|
Congrats, rainzax! Here's hoping your head is above water and stays that way.
This is my first time with the scenario, too. I'm with Franzine on the "a bit lost" stuff. I think I'd follow it better if we were playing in real time, but I'm forgetting details over PbP. Being gone for over a week in the middle didn't help.

Regarding the scenario...
Lots of information overload. So much going on that it was a bit difficult to keep track of.
Zenith by redeux

Haven't GM'ed/Played this one so for me just more so had a busy day yesterday, and yeah, its been a bit of information overload (no fault of the GM, to be clear).
I think a generally good idea is to disable traps/hazards, though I don't see it on the init so I'm not sure how much how much it will help other than reduce our weakness?
And I guess just FYI from a narrative perspective, Zenith sees undead, and they are going to be pretty keen on trying to kill undead once they are no longer paralyzed. So if you need Zenith to do anything else to help with a plan then they'll need some clear and convincing instructions.
-------
And congrats Rainzax!
Emmanuel Holysmith

Congrats Rainax. Sorry Moonlight can't celebrate right now, but he's thinking congratulatory thoughts!
*Gulp* I'll try to frontline against the mummy pharaoh. Hopefully her damage roll is low. We should escape her sand blast formation when we get the chance and aren't paralyzed.
I do think disabling the Umbral Vises are key to victory. Moonlight's a bit... busy right now. If anyone else can get there that will be useful.
As for the meta plot, my guess is that Set has corrupted the good pharaoh that dared to stand against him. And now she's obsessed with finding her falcon and assumes the Pathfinders stole it or something. You know, undeath makes you a little crazy.

It was rainy, yes, but not torrential, but certainly leaving many with the feeling that they have thus far been deprived of a proper summer!

Hammid is getting strange visions during his brief Shadow Phases, so, leads me to believe that somehow, even if not expressed by the initiative tracker, the Vise holds the key to some other narrative combat mechanism.
Essentially, I share Manny’s hunch.

Zenith: you are now no longer paralyzed. There was an update/revision to the scenario after it was originally released that made a few changes, including to this encounter. The most relevant - the despair aura's paralysis effect was reduced to just a single round on a failure (rather than 1d4).
It also reduced the DC to 25, meaning Manny wouldn't have needed to use Zenith's Campaign Coin so that is still in play here
I have and am continuing to go through to confirm no one lese has been penalized by me using the old encounter verison doesn't currently look so - all failures were still below the 'new' DC and no one missed more than a single round from paralysis - but I want to be sure I'm playing as fair as I can Very much apologize for any inconvenience/encounter error - as you can tell this is a difficult enough situation as it is!

I am having fun GM, paralyzed or no, win or lose.
This is a fun scenario, and who knows? Maybe the mummy should win!
Ditto!
