I am considering changing from Brujah to Toreador. I have a clearer character idea for this - an up-and-coming artist/poet Embraced by a Patron. Any thoughts on who that Patron could be, etc.?

Two established kindred in Chicago come to mind. The first one would make you 11th generation, but that's not a deal breaker still would be starting with blood potency 1. The second one would make you 13th generation.
I guess the real question is what sort of relationship do you see yourself having with your Sire?
The first one would be Kathy Glens, a relatively high humanity vampire who leads a local band of some note, Baby Chorus. She would have been seeking you out as either an additional musician or perhaps a lyricist, depending on what your chosen art form is.
The second is Mateo Garcia, a party-boy who was always looking a good time. Your art caught his attention as someone who's art could keep him attending the in-event parties. Mateo is selfish and hot tempered, willing to do anything to get ahead.
I like the idea of Mateo Garcia for the tension/drama that it could bring to the table with the relationship...on top of the vampire drama, there's also the pressure to perform well with the art, possibly even dealing with some party boy dictating her artwork and what it should look like/what standard it should be at.

That's just because it's fairly different compared to previous editions. On the other hand it's not that different from Requiem character creation.

I didn't touch ambition/desire/touchstone/conviction because it seemed that those things were a little bit collaborative.

You will be 13th Generation with Mateo as your Sire. That will give you a Blood Potency of 1.
Blood Surge is a mechanic in which "Rousing the Blood" allows you to add extra dice to a given roll by very temporarily increasing an attribute. The amount that attribute is raised by is a function of you Blood Potency.
We can certainly have conversations around any of the mechanics of the game as some of you are new to vampire and I believe all of you are new to V5.

Hi,
I would be interested in joining a Chicago by night chronicle. I would be happy to run a 13th gen caitiff, brujah, gangrel or gargoyle. I’m not familiar with V5 but I am familiar with the old world of darkness.What era of Chicago by night would the chronicle be set in? During Lodin’s reign or after under a blood red moon?
