DM Kludde |
Welcome all to the Outpost VI game of 1-25 the Beacon Code Dilemma. Feel free to dot in and introduce your characters, we'll start on the official start date of outpost (March 06)
BorisWalrus |
In the room is a very large and very well dressed Morlemaw. He wears light armor but somehow makes it look fashionable. A jaunty captain's style hat is on his head and his imposing foot plus long tusks are well polished.
"Ah! Greetings Captain Solo! My name is Boris! Very nice to meet you! I don't know the statistics for the Absalom run but that sounds most impressive!"
Celly |
A slightly glowing aasimar lady, who moves with the grace of a dancer, walks in. She is currently wearing the robes of a Hylax priestess and counselor.
What's a parasec ... I've heard of parsecs but not parasecs.
She then looks around to see if tea is being served.
[I'm Celestia Sol, empathic mystic and .... [/b] she pauses, looking around.
Is this ALL of us on this mission?
BorisWalrus |
Boris turns to the newcomer. "Ah! Welcome Very nice to meet you and..." Seeing where she is looking... "Ah yes, some tea would be nice! I shall put the kettle on!"
He waddles over to the set and begins preparing some tea.
"Well, it is a small group. perhaps one or two more are on their way. Ah, here's the sugar. Is there milk or creamer?"
Liftt |
A slightly nervous looking shirren slips quietly into the briefing room. Looking about he breaths a sigh of relief. "I hear there is an off station mission in the offering?" he says.
Celly |
Celestia's smile gets bigger seeing Liftt.
Liftt. What a pleasant surprise.
She then attempts to look around him as if looking for someone else.
Jancrast not coming?
She then reaches for her comm unit.
BorisWalrus |
"Ah! There we go! More new friends! Tea is on. Who would like a cup?"
The Morlemaw deftly handles delicate porcelain tea cups, fills a tray, adds sugar and a small pot of creamer to it.
"Well, tea's ready, help yourself!"
Liftt |
Slipp looks hesitantly over his shoulder toward the door "Oh... I think maybe she has a more important case on at the..."
Were is possible for a shirren's shell to pale noticeably you get the feeling that Liftt's would do just that. Certainly his posture changes.
"Um.. that is..."
A second shirren enters the room. ]How does she do that?
"That is, it would appear that Jancrest will be joining us." The new arrival offers a friendly shirren smile to the whole room... apart from Liftt. "Yes she will indeed." she says out loud.
She helps herself to a cup of tea, while Liftt looks uncomfortably around the room.
"Hello everyone. I'm Jancrest, Liftt's Court Appointed Anger Management Counciler. Just here to make sure that stressful situations don't trigger an unfortunate reaction in him." Her smile takes on a fond cast as she looks at the pilot.
Do you have to tell everyone that? Now they'll think I'm a raging psychopath. he mutters telepathically.
Celly |
Celestia frowns slightly as she adds to the telepathic conversation I sort of agree with Liftt on that. Maybe that could have been said a bit more ... discretely. However, your client, your way
Out loud. Thank you Boris. Yes I would. as she moves to make herself a cup.
K'ssatak-Sul |
Embri hellknight in dark heavy armor arrives next. A murky dot of absolute darkness, like a small black hole, rotates near its left shoulder, endlessly absorbing light. Its mask is hiding the whole face and covered with infernal runes, and there is something frightening and inept in its very manner of movement.
- My name is K'ssatak-Sul. I am a Hell Knight and I act according to the precepts of Measure and Chain. I am a melee warrior, diplomat, inquisitor and detective. I specialize in destroying dangerous and chaotic heretical cults. I am here on a partnership restoration program between Starfinder Society and Hellknights.
It mints these words like a hammer on an anvil. Voice sounds a bit strange, as if the organs under the mask are not intended for a common language (Vader-style, yes). There is no emotion in the way it speaks - it just gives you information without bragging or threatening. And there is already something frightening in this.
Rattus Solo |
A slightly glowing aasimar lady, who moves with the grace of a dancer, walks in. She is currently wearing the robes of a Hylax priestess and counselor.
What's a parasec ... I've heard of parsecs but not parasecs.
lol typo
Rattus turns to Celly. "Ah doll it's a measurement of space!"

Rattus looks over his shoulder. oh boy there goes all the fun. Guess I ain't making any money on this trip.
"Nice to meet your Mr. Knight. Everyone make sure they don't have overdue library books or jay walk...ha ha ha" He smiles. "Just a joke" He adjusts his collar awkwardly.
K'ssatak-Sul |
I hope not. Otherwise we'll have to burn it. He does not specify what exactly to burn and whether it is a joke or not.
Rattus Solo |
"Ah! There we go! More new friends! Tea is on. Who would like a cup?"
The Morlemaw deftly handles delicate porcelain tea cups, fills a tray, adds sugar and a small pot of creamer to it.
"Well, tea's ready, help yourself!"
"Tea ain't you got somethin' a little stronger?" Rattus looks at the cup then takes one. "Ah it's ok. It's too early for the hard stuff anyways." He fishes in his pocket and pulls out a small piece of cheese and nibbles on it then drinks the tea.
"Oh btw...If anyone sees a big orange slug looking for me! I ain't here! And it's a lie. I didn't dump my cargo at the first sign of that Vesk cruiser!"
BorisWalrus |
Boris looks the Embri up and down.
"Oh! You are the first of your species I have encountered! Very happy to meet you! Would you like some tea!"
Suddenly the room is a mix of dark and dreary and sunshine and joy... :)
Liftt |
Liftt's antennae twitch from side to side at the odd group of assembled Starfinders. The Hellnight he somewhat shrinks away from, even as he finds himself accepting, somehow, another cup of tea from Boris.
But it is next to Rattus that he eventually finds himself. "S...so... you are a pilot too?" he asks. Hoping for the brotherhood of shared flight experience to provide a solid platform for him within the group.
Looking around he slips a flask out of his jacket pocket and tips a little bit into his tea.. offering the flask to Rattus as well. "Just a little pick-me-up that my bro's left me."
Celly |
Celestia raises an eyebrow at being addressed as 'doll' but that is all the reaction that Rattus gets to see. She then steps to the side to observe her fellow team members and their interactions, sometimes conversing softly with the CAAMC, while sipping tea.
Liftt |
Jancrest is *delighted* to find another councilor on the team.
Sidling over to Celly she offers a warm smile.
I know Liftt finds me hard to explain sometimes. I find it easiest to just state my roll up front. Until he comes to terms with his own vulnerability to stressful situations... he won't be able to deal with it. Deep down he really is a nice person. she thinks to the Assimar.
DM Kludde |
I feel almost bad for having to interrupt you and starting a game here.
Can you all fill out the RPG Chronicles + init counters on the slides, please?
The room in question is a waiting room in the Lorespire comples, just adjacent to the Starscape Chamber, where the team is awaiting the arrival of Venture-Captain Naiaj. Who will arrive here exactly two days from now, just in time for the start of Outpost VI
BorisWalrus |
Fun group so far! :) Putting in the info for the RPG Chronicles.. Boris is actually level 4. I need to update him here and will do that hopefully some time this weekend...
Celly |
I'm sure he is. Just like my tiefling partner is under her gruff exterior. Speaking of which, remind me to call her after the briefing once we know what we're doing. Celestia replies.
DM Kludde |
Venture-Captain Naiaj stands sternly next to a small sentient robot—an SRO—bearing the holy symbol of Triune. “Greetings. I have called you in for a pressing matter related to a piece of the Society’s past. In 160 ag, former First Seeker Lanrah decided to make it the Society’s priority to research the Gap, using much of the Society’s resources in the pursuit of this quest. One vessel the Society deployed at that time was called the Amber Reconnoiter. That vessel disappeared under mysterious circumstances on a mission in the Drift. While it has been lost since then, the Amber Reconnoiter has become of interest to the Society yet again. MP-8 here can explain the details.”
The SRO wheels forward on treads, its single, focused lens looking around the room, and performs some semblance of a bow. “I am MP-8, a priest of Triune and native of Aballon. It is an honor to meet you all. A few weeks ago, I received a vision from Triune itself regarding a precise location in the Drift. From this vision I deciphered a set of coordinates: a beacon code.
Triune provides these beacon codes only in instances of the utmost importance, so we in the church knew we had to take action right away. I formed an expedition to travel to the beacon code’s coordinates, whereupon we found the wreckage of a starship from centuries ago. The ship still bore insignia of the Starfinder Society.” MP-8 rolls over to the Starscape unit in the center of the room and attaches an adapter cable to its datajack. The lights in the room dim, and the unit projects a holographic image of a ruined starship floating in front of the colorful backdrop of the Drift. “Naturally, we assumed there must be something of great consequence on that starship, so we approached.
However, much to our surprise, the ship opened fire.”
The Amber Reconnoiter’s hologram begins silently firing its weapons, projectiles exploding harmlessly and then fizzling out. “While we could have retaliated, we did not want to risk damaging what Triune considered so important. Seeing that the ship used to belong to the Starfinder Society, I have reached out to Venture-Captain Naiaj for aid.” MP-8 disconnects from the projection unit, and the image of the Amber Reconnoiter flickers and then disappears. “Whatever is on that ship is of the utmost he importance to Triune, so you must recover it for us.” Naiaj nods to MP-8. “We will help in any way we can, as this find doesn’t just interest Triune’s church but also the entire Pact Worlds.” Naiaj turns from the SRO. “I believe we have records of the Amber Reconnoiter along with the corresponding access codes that should allow us to disable the ship’s defense systems, allowing for safe exploration.” Naiaj pauses. “This vessel is also of interest in our matters. This ship was one of ours, from over two centuries ago, that disappeared during a mission in the Drift. The Society has been unable to ascertain what happened to the ship and its crew, and we would certainly like to find out. the If you could, investigate the ship to see if there are any clues or records as to what happened to the crew.”
You can ask questions.
Do you any of you have the following boons?
High Society Influence (Royo) (Starfinder Society Scenario #1–05: The First Mandate).
Dream Whispers (Starfinder Society Scenario #1–16: Dreaming of the Future).
Chronicle sheet from Starfinder Adventure Path #1: Incident at Absalom Station.
Starfinder Insignia (Starfinder Society Quests: Into the Unknown).
K'ssatak-Sul |
Boris looks the Embri up and down.
"Oh! You are the first of your species I have encountered! Very happy to meet you! Would you like some tea!"Suddenly the room is a mix of dark and dreary and sunshine and joy... :)
No. Eating and drinking in public for our people is about the same as public copulation in terms of lack of culture for most races... If you have a thermos, you can pour tea there and I will try it separately. Later.
Real lore of embri btw. Although the analogy is certainly from me .)
Venture-Captain Naiaj stands sternly next to a small sentient robot...
The tasks are clear. Ready for execution.
Celly |
Boons: 1-16 and ITU only
And it is my honour to meet you as well MP-8 Celestia replies, returning the bow. She then turns towards Naiaj So we have to find the ship's old access codes to stop it from shooting at us I take it. Where do we start looking to find those? Guidance?

Boris nods, "Ah. I will see if there is one around.." He rummages through the pantry, finds one and fills it up.
"Here you go. I hope it is palatable for you!"After MP-8 finishes, "Honored to meet you. We shall do our best to help. And yes, Celly has the correct idea. Where might we find those codes?"
DM Kludde |
Boons: 1-16 and ITU only So we have to find the ship's old access codes to stop it from shooting at us I take it. Where do we start looking to find those? Guidance?
I'd suggest starting in the Communion Vaults or the Halls of Discovery.
Liftt |
Liftt looks around nervously. The CAAMC puts a reassuring arm on his shoulder.
"It fired on you? Did you get any signals from it?" he asks, alarmed.
Turning to the VC he asks "What was it armed with? And what range can use use the code from?"
Rayva |
An elf appears at the door. He's dressed in a suit with leaf and tree patterns. He has a retinue of sorts; a small flying pixie (drone) and tiny ball of light with the outline of a winged elf inside (custom rig).
"My apologies for my tardiness. I was just returning from an engagement when I received notice that I was to be on this mission. I didn't even have time to change."
Rayva has Quest Into the Unkown and Incident on Absalom Station.
DM Kludde |
*ponders while making a note* And .... once we have these codes ... how soon do we have to leave?
Naiaj raises an eyebrow as soon as you are ready, of course!
"It fired on you? Did you get any signals from it?" he asks, alarmed.
Turning to the VC he asks "What was it armed with? And what range can use use the code from?"
Let me be clear Naiaj says with a stern gaze I don't want you to damage the ship, I want you to explore it. We have no reason to believe the wreckage itself is of particular meaning, so there must be something on the ship that Triune wants us to find. It must be fairly well hidden for scrappers to have not discovered it yet. If the ship is destroyed, whatever it is that is on board would also be lost. That's why I need you to find the codes
DM Kludde |
Pictures of MP-8 and Naiaj now added to the handouts. Where (Communion Vaults or Halls of Discovery) do you want to go first?
DM Kludde |
The Halls of Discovery contain many grandiose meeting rooms, auditoriums, and theaters designed to host various meetings and councils of the leadership of the Society. Venture-Captain Arvin is currently in his modest, tidy office, with a little shield outside that reads 'Venture-Captain Arvin.
Venture-Captain Arvin looks up from his notes, clearly having had his head down for a long time. “Good to see you all. Thanks for stopping by—it’s a bit of a busy time right now, so I haven’t been able to get out of the office much.” He turns off his holographic note projectors and stands.
“I’ve heard from Naiaj that you are seeking information on the Amber Reconnoiter. Thank you for looking into the matter.” He pulls out a datapad from his pocket and thumbs through it a bit. “The records on the vessel are pretty old, so we don’t keep them accessible in our normal information banks. However, it seems that some record keepers here in the Halls of Discovery might be able to access the information you’re looking for. They specialize in maintaining historical records, so they might be able to help you out.”
Despite claiming he is busy, the VC does notice Rayva and Celly, and says Let me come along. These record keepers, they tend to be a bit... stuffy... with rules and regulations.
The group takes an elevator to the basement. The first room in the basement levels is dimly lit, aside from the brightly illuminated window counter. Inside, a robot with a thin body and six arms leans on the counter, while a dwarf wearing glasses and a large set of earphones sits hunched over a computer terminal at a desk facing toward the counter, typing furiously. The robot spreads its arms wide and speaks in a grating and annoyingly chipper voice. “Welcome to the Bureau of Historical Records from Antiquity. I am Recordbot-128. How may I assist you today?”
Rayva |
Rayva greets Arvin warmly and offers polite conversation about current events and what's going on with him.
Rayva tries to match Recordbot-128 chipper tone. He gestures broadly as well. "We are here to retrieve information on the last mission of the Amber Reconnoiter. Are you the one to help us?"
BorisWalrus |
Boris waddles quickly behind the group, nods to the venture captain and follows into the room.
"Yes! We are on a very important mission for the Venture Captains and are told you are the experts who may be able to give us the information on that ship that could very well be the difference between success and failure!" an equally chipper Boris says.
And yes, butter up on full blast.
diplo: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 13 + (4) = 27
Liftt |
Liftt looks around the exhibits, letting the others do the talking as he pokes at things. Jancrest gently suggests that he joins the conversation.
"Recordbot-128 will surely want to know some of your exploits as well Liftt. You may be able to trade some of your stories for the access we need?" she says, clearly loud enough for the robot to hear.
diplomacy(aid): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
K'ssatak-Sul |
Hellknight introduces himself and consistently states the reason for our appearance. He is not trying to please the robot or threaten him. In his system of values, we all work in the same structure and must obey the leadership.
DM Kludde |
Recordbot-128 repositions himself such that a sign reading ALL REQUESTS PROCESSED IN ONE WEEK. NO EXCEPTIONS becomes clealry visible.

That dwarf much have titanium ears or something
BorisWalrus |
Boris looks at the venture captain and raises one eyebrow.. then looks to the group.
"Someone did fill those forms out a week ago, didn't they? OK, who has them? Was it on paper or digital?"
He's obviously just fishing here for a possible bluff in the near future

K'ssatak-Sul |
I've heard that Hell looks like this. Hell is Kafka's Castle. K'ssatak-Sul approaches the dwarf and taps him on the shoulder with its claw.
Rayva |
"OF course there's no exceptions. I do believe that if you were to look, you will find our request." While Recordbot-128 is distracted, Rayva will send Star Jump to get the attention of the music lover.
Celly |
Celestia winces slightly hearing Abysshead. Her flatmate is a fan and even dances to their music. However, she knows a good way to get the dwarf's attention - a loud telepathic whistle followed by a message to look at the counter
DM Kludde |
The dwarf, safely out of reach on the other side of the desk, is completely immersed in the loud sounds of kachunnkkachunk, behind a windows and out of telepathy reach. Venture-Captain Arvin sees the attempts to draw the dwarf's attention and starts making big gestures, and shouting HEY!
You may attempt to get the dwarf's attention with Bluf, Diplomacy, Intimidate or a relevant profession check (e.g. Profession(soccer hooligan) )
