Ruby Phoenix Tournament Games I've Played (Session Tracker)

Kal'Ryon and Xilt bump into buildings a couple more times before they're able to see them but soon enough the entire team is able to explore.

The camp is empty and shows no signs of battle. Most of the construction equipment as well as the bulk of the food and water supplies are gone, leaving behind only the furniture and goods too large to carry.

Though the ground is covered with booted footprints.

DC10 Survival if you explore the outer edges of the base camp:
Only five sets of bootprints exit the camp to the north. An additional set of tracks—appearing as spiky marks in the ground, probably from some sort of equipment taken with the group accompanies the tracks out of camp and around the edges.

15 plus on the above check:
You find another path to the west bearing multiple sets of the same spiky tracks, leading both to and from the camp several times.

Separate DC20 Survival if you made the first check:
The spike impressions are actually a creature's tracks, as if a large thorn-covered arachnid was skittering through the grass

You can also explore the buildings. Just let me know which ones you want to look at/what order you want to investigate them if you want to check them all out.

"I think that we should continue this exploration tomorrow. With the exception of Tzleztor, Frantz and myself the rest of you are in no shape to continue on. An overnight rest in my extra-dimensional space will see you all right as rain in the morning."

We can continue on but considering people's condition I do not think that to be a wise move. Negative levels from Enervation usually last
for many hours.

Diazepane has two 4th level extracts available, which he can use to prepare restoration twice. This can cure Kal'Ryon and Myth, and would only leave Diazepane with negative levels.

Diazepane targets touch AC, so -3 to attacks isn't as devastating as it is for Myth. -3 to saves sucks, but it's not the end of the world. He has an extract of greater invisibility, which he can use to avoid getting targeted.

It'd still be better overall to rest, but I'm just pointing out there's a path forward if we want to push.

To keep the game moving as we already have three votes out of four to rest. I can roll it back if the GM or Myth objects for any reason.

Xilt spends a single minute of quiet (Fast Study) to fill an empty spell slot with a Rope Trick spell which he then casts extended and with an arcane point to last a full 24 hours. He directs the party up the rope. Tzleztor (with no need for sleep) relaxes and watches out of the extra-dimensional window while the others sleep.

@EbonFist - My character will be putting up some overnight buffs before going to sleep and I will probably be adjusting his prepared spells as well but before I do this I want to know that we are able to rest.

Xilt has no issues casting his spell and everyone gets into his pocket dimension.

This close to the Worldwound, Tzleztor has a few scares as bizarre creatures wander nearby. The Master of Spells magic holds though and they are all fooled into believing the village is just another expanse of open plain.

The spell's duration is only half done when everyone feels better.

There's no save for these negative levels, they're refreshed automatically after twelve hours.

@Ebonfist - What time is it in game now? If it is in the middle of the night then it would probably be better to wait until first light to start up again. Also characters that can will probably want to put up long terms buffs before they go to sleep (as I mentioned in my previous post). :)

Xilt puts up numerous spells on himself and Tzleztor before the wizard goes to sleep. The wizard returns the Ember Staff to his familiar. His faithful familiar stands guard watching out through the magical window for any signs of trouble.

As soon as the party is ready to get going the wizard chews down on a blood boiling pill to quicken his reactions to danger. He also casts Message on the party so that everyone can communicate to each other without shouting.

"All right then. I am no woodsman so I doubt I will be much help sorting out the footprints in the muck. However I suggest we start there. Perhaps we can find some useful information."

Kal takes a few moments to walk around the edge of camp and look at the footprints. He examines them with the buttend of this pole arm- but doesn't look to closely or seriously.

"5 sets of footprints, plus something else, headed north. How many pathfinders are we missing again?" pausing just long enough for someone to start to speak, he continues on.

"I think we head to the biggest one first, and then go from there." Building 5

The Pathfinders prep for their day and begin their explorations. Noting the tracks they begin their investigation with the buildings.

After the depredations of the termites from Hell that the party killed off the day before all that remains of the furnishings of this building are a few half-devoured stools and bed frames. From the remains you suspect it was once a bunkhouse for the rank-and-file pathfinders that were assigned here, likely 10 - 12 people.

No, no training needed.

Like most of the camp, this building has been devastated by the vescavor swarms and little remains but a pile of rubble that has partially buried a small folio written by Aram Zey. In it he provides simplified instructions for how to operate the Hao Jin Tapestry in case of an emergency. Following the basic ritual, one can identify a symbol on the cloth and travel to that location, though Aram Zey notes that regular use of the procedure may destabilize the tapestry. Zey also notes that one can leave the tapestry by stepping into a glowing eddy that forms near where it enters the demiplane.

The building is completely empty and riddled with holes in its eastern wall as if something has chewed through it. It likely once contained the armory, given the metal shavings and dust and scraps of leather and sawdust that remain. All that remains whole is the adamantine head of a masterwork scythe. A replacement haft could be crafted in 10 minutes with a successful DC 15 Craft (weapons) check.

Xilt is able to find a long plank of wood on one of the walls of one of the buildings that has been chewed down to approximately the right size and shape for a haft. He shapes it a bit more, whittles down the end, but remembers to cut a notch before sliding the end through the adamantine head. Carving a wedge, he inserts that into the notch then slams the end down on the stone of the dais in the middle of town repeatedly to drive it home, firmly embedding the haft in the head.

Once the new weapon is complete, the party searches the next building.

These quarters have remained mostly intact during the demonic invasion, although most of the belongings inside are strewn about the building. The bed has been flipped on its side and dozens of documents are scattered about. Hanging slightly crooked on the wall is a grand portrait of a green eyed male half-elf wielding a flaming scimitar, wearing plate armor, and carrying a shield emblazoned with the symbol of the Dawnflower. You recognize the portrait to be of Nikolai Adonai.

Several of the papers on the floor are of interest. Most documents you discover are inventory catalogs, construction plans, and even scouting reports of the general area—none of which show signs of hostile forces.

An incomplete letter from Nikolai is also among the papers (Slide #3).

DC15 Perception:
You find several scrolls on a small shelf. These include a scroll of make whole (CL 12th), a scroll of summon monster V, two scrolls of lesser restoration and a scroll of forbiddance.

DC20 Perception:
The portrait conceals a recess containing a fist-sized piece of black tourmaline that has an aura of strong conjuration magic. This is one of the three arcane foci used to keep the temporary Hao Jin Tapestry open.

The wizard nods at the bloodrager and hands him the repaired weapon.

Xilt easily spots all the loot along with Myth. He casts Read Magic and peruses the scrolls before placing all but one of the scrolls in his Handy Haversack for safekeeping.

The focus for the tapestry is party treasure for now but if someone would like to claim it they can.

27 Perception on a take 10

I don't think that anyone else can cast any of these scrolls. If we are pressed I can have Tzleztor attempt to UMD the Lesser Restoration scrolls.

"This summoning spell is handy. I already have one prepared but another one would not be bad."

The wizard places the summoning scroll in his spring-loaded wrist sheath and hands his wand of mirror images over to Tzleztor.

The last building looks to have been a storehouse, though little remains. Oddly enough there is not much debris here as though there wasn't much for the demon locusts to feast on when they arrived.

Are you guys following the five sets of booted tracks plus the spiky tracks north or the spiky tracks alone to the west?

The tracks run north for 10 miles, leading from the vast plains to the foothills of the Tusk Mountains. The trail leads to a 10-foot-wide cave that descends into one of the hills.

DC 15 Knowledge (nature) or Survival:
You notice signs that a large predator—likely a bear—recently used the cave as a den.

Narrow branches of the cave system stretch for several hundred feet down into the ground to the north and west. The rest of the cave encompasses two larger spaces that have 10-foot ceilings.

The entrance tunnel descends and widens into a subterranean grotto. A massive bear lies motionless in the center of the cavern, its flesh exposed by several deep gashes. A half-dozen arrows stand clustered in its chest.

Please arrange yourselves on slide 5. You're coming in from the left hand tunnel.
