Toasty! uncovers a vial labeled, "oil of mending".

As you finish your rummaging, a cry from Rain in Cloudy Day pierces the vault. “Oh, no! She’s back!”

Moments later, an imposing figure steps into the vault, striding straight past the cowering Pathfinder. With her wild hair, wicked curved horns, sharp teeth, and glowing eyes, she’s a fearful sight. The bones of her enormous, clawed hands make hideous cracking sounds as she heaves on a chain wrapped around her torso, dragging an iron cauldron across the stone floor. It nearly tips, spilling a glob of vile black ooze filled with vibrant constellations.

She casts her gaze around the vault and rises to her full height. She speaks, her voice like a dying goat by a crackling fire.
“What is this? Ah yes, I see. Precious treasures, all for me!"

“A dagger, its twin my child wields. I command you, Star: break cities! Burn fields!"

“A key, its message yet unclear. Why does it hide? What does it fear?"

“Pathfinders! You’ll seek boundless wonder across the land... and find Aslynn’s nightmares, hand in hand!”

Aslynn stoops to grasp the chain once more and proceeds with her cauldron into the vault, still ignoring Rain and anyone else around her.

Suddenly, a new voice—a harsh whisper—carries through the air. “Psst! Hey, you! Pathfinders! She’s not real. Well, not too real. Just a bit. No time to explain! You’ve got to distract her! Don’t let her find what she’s looking for! Distract her, then find a way to get rid of her!"

Perception (DC 15):
You realize that the voice seems to come from every direction at once, as if from a talented ventriloquist.

The first step to "distract her", as the voice has requested, is to divert this form of Aslynn from the treasures it seems to be seeking. A PC can accomplish this with a successful Deception, Occultism, or Performance check. If a PC wishes to take some other action, such as attempting to trap Aslynn, please so indicate.

Can't make anything worse can it? He IS a goblin... a walking, talking distraction...

"Have you ever heard of a game called: 'Does it burn?'" He grins, cracking his knuckles and inviting the others to get in on the game show, educational lesson, and amazingly fun time.

Crit success!

The form of Aslynn turns toward the tengu. "What that's you say now from your beak? Have you the item that I seek?"

Flikk fails to hold her attention.

A failure at this level.

The witch's figure turns agitated and lashes. "Curse you, goblin and all you teach! You won't stop me, while my goal's in reach!" She unleashes a blast of psychic energy at Flikk.
Damage mental to Flikk, basic Will save (DC 17): 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8

Dolmandir manage to distract the witch's form again.

Success.

Lokoloko, Raj, and Toasty! may each attempt to distract Aslynn's form by doing one of the following: using Arcana, Nature, Occultism, or Religion to speak incantations, using Crafting or Deception to swap valuable magic items with shiny non-magical baubles, or using an appropriate Lore skill to Recall Knowledge about night hags and their behaviors and weaknesses. Other checks might be appropriate based on how the PC describes their attempt.

Aslynn shrieks with delight at the sight of the brine-covered baubles and rushes to the pile of treasure at the center of the vault.

“It’s here! I can taste it! Come to me, my dearest nightmares!” She rakes through the treasure with her claws, scattering coins and shredding pages. "What's this? Did they baste it? The taste of salt? Can't be the right wares?"

"These baubles rolled to me! Not the one I must find! Worse still, it would seem. These ones have been brined!"

“Where is it?! Where?! I must have it! What have you done with it?!” With a final shriek--and before she can form another rhyming couplet--Aslynn curls in on herself, melding with the ooze from her cauldron. She and the cauldron melt into the floor, bubbling and hissing. The sounds turn to frantic chittering as dozens of unusual rats begin pouring from the ground.

Toasty! misses the masses but manages to maim multiple mice melting the mob until its only a minor, manageable menace.

Cackling with glee, Lokoloko jumps up and down "Buuuuuuurn!". Realizing he's still in the line of fire, he runs back to join Flikk.

It does.

Raj the Unmovable wrote:
Big targets require heavier arrows. Raj takes his bow, and channels nature magic to increase the weapon's gravitational force. Then he draws the bow, keeps the aim for a few heartbeats, calming his breath. He fires, and before the first arrow has even travelled all the way, the has already fired another one.

I assume the attacks target the large rat (red).

Neither arrow finds its mark.

The large rat (red) crawls around bookshelves looking for its prey.

"It's getting closer..." Raj says. More an observation than a warning. Although somewhat worried observation.

The combined firepower of the Pathfinders readily rids the area of rats of various sizes.

COMBAT OVER

With the chitter of rats now ceasing, a new sound echoes throughout the vault.

*THUD*

The sound of a large box striking the floor is soon followed by a similar sound.

*THUD*

The source of the sounds is a disembodied pair of elegant blue gloves as they busily clear chests off a table. The gloves make a “Stop right there!” gesture before signaling toward the table. They gently pat its surface, then indicate the boxes on top of it.

Location of disembodied pair of elegant blue gloves now on Map.

The voice from earlier says, “I see you’ve met Mr. Glovely! He wants you to help clear those boxes. I’m, uh, underneath them. It’s a bit embarrassing. Help a poor guy out? Many hands are better than two! No offense, Mr. Glovely.”

The gloves wave dismissively, as if to say, “None taken.”

What do you wish to do, Pathfinders?

"Buried under these boxes you say." He rubs his hand together and decides nothing can go wrong by helping. "Lend some hands everyone, probably some more interesting treasure down there!" He leans the +1 battle axe up against a crate and starts.

"Buried under these boxes you say." He rubs his hand together and decides nothing can go wrong by helping. "Lend some hands everyone, probably some more interesting treasure down there!" He leans the +1 battle axe up against a crate and starts.

Flikk concludes the hands are likely an unseen servant, a creature with a physical body made of force and often summoned by magic users to fetch objects, open unstuck or unlocked doors, hold chairs, and clean.

As you clear the boxes, Mr. Glovely helps out, pushing and pointing, until a gaudy treasure chest with an enormous, shiny silver chain and padlock is revealed. The hands gesture toward the chest with flourish before giving Flikk a pat on the back.

Suddenly, the chest contorts until its lid shifts to reveal a toothy grin.

”Hello, Pathfinders!” cries the chect. ”Than you for the assist. I’m Biglock., one of the best mimics around! That means I can turn into all kinds of things. Tables, chairs, you name it! And this is Mr. Glovely. He… you know, I’m not sure. He showed up one day and lent me a hand. Or two! Ha! We have what you might call a mutually beneficial arrangement. I do the talking, and Mr. Glovely does everything else.”

One of the gloved hands extends forward as if awaiting a shake.

Biglock continues, ”It would seem that we have a lot to talk about. It seems that we are trapped here and I believe the only way out of this situation is to cooperate.”
