Corey takes a look around the scriptorium, starting with the body.
17 total on a Take 10 Knowledge (local).
"Ugh. Poor guy. He's one of the museum’s watchmen. We'll need to bring his remains back up when we leave. I, too, wonder what caused all this acid damage, Valeros."
He curls his lip in disgust.
"Eww."

He studies the note that Sylvester hands to him.
"Huh. It's Written in Osiriani. It contains some of Imrizade’s notes as well as sketches and diagrams of the Gate of Beyond and a brain canister she found in Osirion."

Sticking his tongue out as he concentrates, Corey studies the bizarre scribblings...
Linguistics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Guidance, anyone? ;) If not, I'll use my Grand Lodge Faction pin to get a +1.

"Very interesting... The notes detail how Imrizade, a daring and successful adventurer, discovered a strange metal cylinder inscribed with peculiar hieroglyphs while exploring a forgotten Osirian tomb. The canister was indescribably ancient, older even than the tomb in which it lay. In fact, it dated back to a time in Golarion’s distant past, when the Gate of Beyond was originally constructed. Sealed within the container for tens of thousands of years was the preserved brain of an aberrant sorcerer named Kubburum Ishmedagan.
The notes go on to describe the brain canister as a key that can open a portal--the Gate of Beyond--detailing how the canister can be attached to the Gate, and the revelation that destroying the cylinder while it is attached to the Gate will demolish the portal as well."

He gives a hard look (and a Detect Magic spell) at the body decomposing in the corner. He give special attention to the club that the man is carrying as he recalls Zarta mentioning it to him in his Dark Archives faction letter.

Assuming it is not that heavy (or magical) Sylvester will use Mage Hand to retrieve the club for closer examination.

Sylvester detects no auras on the corpse or the club, but confirms it is the one sought by Zarta.

Heal (DC 15) or Survival (DC 20) re Hodd's remains:
It appears that Hodd had been repeatedly slashed, wounded, and bloodied when he entered the room through the the door to the south. The watchman must have dragged himself to his present location, but perished from his wounds before he could go for more help.

Corey surmises that Hodds corpse has now become home to spores from some of the strange mold in the room you just entered, which is also the source of the acid slowly breaking down the watchman's remains.

I don't believe there is anything else of interest in the room. There is one vote to enter the south (left) door. One more vote for the same (or two votes for a different location) moves us to the next encounter.

I have marked the map to indicate the south direction on this map.

I hadn't realize that the compass rose (now marked in green) was difficult to see, but the bright red arrow works just as well![/ooc]

The southern door opens onto a vast hall draped in shadowy cobwebs and filled with haphazardly placed statues. The air is heavy with dust. Any noise echoes hollowly among the figures, some swathed in thick coverings like misshapen beasts, others bare and uncovered, all coated in a thick layer of dust. Leering visage loom out of the darkness, fearsome wooden and stone faces carved in grimaces and scowls.

This room has a 20-foot-high ceiling and holds a dazzling collection of sculptures, effigies, and statues of different sizes, some draped in sheets, others coated with a thick layer of dust.

Perception (DC 10):
Among the statues here is a pair depicting winged demons near the door along the northern wall (through which the party entered). A wooden sign on the door reads “Scriptorium—Quiet Please."

You may attempt a Knowledge (geography, planes, or religion) (DC 12) to identify the statues; if successful, you may open the spoiler below:

Spoiler:
Such winged statues depict demons and are commonly found guarding temples in distant Vudra.

Unlit oil lamps hang from brackets in the center of each wall.

The early scenarios did sometimes have some odd orientations for the compass directions. That being said, I made this one worse by rotating the map. I have tried to "correct" for my error on the descriptions, but a few may have slipped by me.

The spores are not brown mold, but of one of the other, less dangerous varieties that were among those in the other room.

Shatter Weapons (Ex) Whenever a character strikes a caryatid column with a weapon (magical or nonmagical), the weapon takes 3d6 points of damage. Apply the weapon’s hardness normally. Weapons that take any amount of damage in excess of their hardness gain the broken quality.

Sylvester knows these statues are immune to magic in addition to the same sources of harm as other constructs.

Constructs are immune to death effects, Disease, mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects), Necromancy effects, paralysis, Poison, sleep, stun, and any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects, or is harmless). Also, the statues are immune to magic.
