GMST: Don't forget that your Mk2 has 4 Wounds due to being Large. It's actually just one size below Huge. Awwww.

![]() |

Glad you guys are dotting in. Now please assemble your characters under an alias.
@GMST: While we're waiting for everyone to finish up, would you like to go through a few mock battles here in Discussion to work out the bugs and try a few different weapon loadouts?
We can do some just straight fights, and some using Chase rules.

GM SuperTumbler |

I haven't set up an alias yet, but I can get that done. I'd appreciate recommendations for weapons and mods.
Sebecloki: Is amphibious something worth doing? It seems like in the description there are some rivers and obviously the big inland sea. I don't think we will be sailing this post-apocalyptic assault/recreational vehicle across an ocean.
Atlas2112: How does linked work? You total the mods of linked weapons and then halve them. Does that mean a turret with two particle weapons costs the same as one particle weapon? Are you supposed to do like a particle weapon and a laser?
I'm thinking amphibious, particle weapon, and something longer ranger like a laser. Maybe an extra mod of armor.
Also, since Operator vehicles are always sort of a negotiation. Can I negotiate for the Mk2 and the motorcycle for free so I can have the 29000 credits for random other stuff.
I'm imagining a post apocalyptic six wheeled RV with a big cockpit almost Millenium Falcon style attached to the top/front. And the bike strapped on for when I need more maneuverable transport (or someone else could use it to be a sort of support outrider). It isn't cool like the bike launches from the moving tank or anything.
Once we get the vehicle squared away I'd be good with running some combats. I am going to just go back to square one and assume I know nothing so I don't make any mistakes due to misremembering rules.

Re: Linked: That is how linked works in the rules, yes. Then the bonus for having linked weapons (essentially firing two weapons at once) is that you fire one weapon as normal, but it is now +1 to hit and +2 damage (at the cost of twice the fired ammo.)
Oh. I see your question. No, you may only link same weapons.
And yes, since you add the mods together and then divide by half, it is always a free upgrade. (X+X)/2 = X
I hate this. There's no motivation to not do this. Hence, I say it should = 1.5X. Rounded down, as are all fractions in SW.
For 1 mod weapons this doesn't change anything. And that's fine. You wanna duct tape twin mini rail guns? Fine. Just bring enough ammo.
But now linking 2 Mod weapons means a 3 Mod Linked. To boost your light ion cannon to a +1/+2 light ion cannon now means something.
Also!
There's nothing in the rules that says you can't have 5 weapons, all of which are in their own turret. This hurts my head. Let's say you can have one turret, 360 degrees, and then each side gets its own 180 degree pintle mount. (This means that the guns on both the left and right side can shoot straight ahead, but the left can't shoot right, and vice versi.)
For the turret, you can have two weapons on it. Most have a main gun, and then something smaller, like a MG.
You could have a Particle Beam Cannon up top (2 mods) and then a Light Laser front and rear? (1 mod ea.)

![]() |

Also, since Operator vehicles are always sort of a negotiation. Can I negotiate for the Mk2 and the motorcycle for free so I can have the 29000 credits for random other stuff.
Ummmmm....
It says you get any one vehicle. Instead of the MK2 without the motorcycle, I will agree to the MKI and the motorcycle.
The MKI still has six seats, all the same toys, and is also nuclear powered.
The Wastelander motorcycle also has 2 mods spots. For this trade you can outfit those as well.
Deal?

GM SuperTumbler |

Counter offer to your counter offer: It says I get any one vehicle, and I didn't ask for a Zone Ranger ATV which is worth 500,000 more than the nuclear Mk 2 and has 1 more Mod point and is already amphibious.
As for weapons, with those rules I'll probably just go with a single particle beam, armor, amphibious, and anti missile. That should be 5 points.

GM SuperTumbler |

How about this:
Mk 2, nuclear powered, Wastelander motorcycle is mounted in such a way that someone can use its weapons as forward facing fixed mount (anti-personnel lasers) not the pilot, but an extra gunner, and it can launch while driving in a cool Knight Rider/Dark Knight kind of way while the main car stays functional.

![]() |

(I just tried to look up 'savage' and 'recharge power'. I now know more about electric bikes....)
Ah, mon ami! You are very cunning! I see your attack! You are trying the funny biznez, yes?
The Zone RANGER! (man that is a cool name) ATV is a TW vehicle. Meaning it's not nuclear powered, it's powered...by the power...of friendship. It's also size 7, so it eats power faster than it regens (and even faster if the road is bumpy and slows down PPE regen.)
That would actually be funny to take that, not only because get to say the name Zone RANGER! more often, but because we get to see if we can ambush your caster after filling up. Good times!
Tell ya what, I stick with the MK1 offer, but that "it can launch while driving in a cool Knight Rider/Dark Knight kind of way" gets on! I like that. (Imma say no on the shooting while on the car thing, tho, like some kind of mutant autobot combiner. Okay now that I say it like that it's something I'll think about, but no for now. =)
Your mods are good. Just drop the AMCM and you're at 4.

Perenian "Perry" Ethgarnon |

Still working on my character. I want to verify that our MARS pcs start Seasoned, per RAW, correct?

Perenian "Perry" Ethgarnon |

Perry is mostly complete. Only need to pick Equipment. Ready for review.

![]() |

I'm going to give you a day to ponder having the Wastelander's weapons available to a gunner crew member while in the car because it is super cool. It gives more PCs a chance to participate in combat which is good for engagement, doesn't really benefit me but benefits the narrative.
So you'll take a Mk1 as long as we have an assume bike on the side in some kind of modified bike rack from which someone can shoot AND the thing can launch from it and become mobile with all its ECC goodness? And I guess we'll even have to say that, while it is attached to the car, someone can move to or from it through a window with a single, full move action?
Done.
HAHAHAHAHA.
Yes, Percy, MARS start at seasoned. Being a normal, squishy human is hard in a mutants' world.

Perenian "Perry" Ethgarnon |

Would you explain the note under Combat Heavy Mage EBA armor - does the "Ignore Min Str" effect apply to the armor itself, such that I can use it with only a d4 Str?

Perfect! And yes, people would want to be able to move back and forth. Not sure if it should be on the side or on the roof and people get up there with a hatch. Might not matter, I'm not sure who we will have who will want to be using the bike weapons anyway.
Now I just need to spend some credits and gear up.
So are we running with three players? Is Atlas going to also have a character for fourth?

![]() |

No, Imma have my hands full just running this crazy train for you guys, so I'll not be having a character, awesome as that might be.
We're still waiting for Xyndar to post a character. And there are others that still might throw their hat in. Know no fear.
Perry: TW Armor is a bit like Powered Armor in that it runs on power--your power. It costs 1 PPE or ISP per hour to run TW armor. Hence, yes, while it is powered, it has all kinds of candy. Mind you, if ever it runs short (and, from all I can see, there is no battery on these things; just once it needs a PPE it's gonna get it and if it's not there it's off) then all these things turn off.
If you're leaning in to being an Arcane, this should be no problem; with Rapid Recharge and stuff it'll be okay. If you're gonna try to run a bunch of TW items with just the one edge investment, I can't say wacky hijinks won't ensue. ^_^

From what I understand this system grew out of a miniature tabletop wargame and needs to be played on a grid -- for Rifts there are machines that can shoot things from miles away. When I play the Palladium system, I make maps that are miles wide to accommodate stuff like boom guns.
I'm planning on doing the same thing for this game -- like having maps of a mile of road so heavy artillery can be fired from range. Part of what I enjoy about world building in systems like this is putting together maps on this scale -- I don't own and have never owned an iphone -- I have no idea about what or how things are mobile-sensitive or compatible. I do all my computing and play on a gaming desktop with a lot of RAM and storage space. I can do screen shots of stuff to supplement, but I use Fantasy Grounds, Foundry, Maptools, and Miro boards for maps, and I'm not aware of any of that being made for mobile use. I know for a fact that Fantasy Grounds and Foundry basically don't work on phones. I know google slides is the preferred medium for some, but I don't want to use that, and I'm not planning to. This won't be a good fit if you need everything completely accessible on a phone or don't have any interest in that wargaming aspect of the system. I can take screen shots of things, but if it doesn't work on a phone, I'm not spending hours trying to recreate maps in another platform.

Wait, so this game is The Road Warrior? From the initial setting description I was getting something a little more civilized. I may need to rethink this.

The starting location is a fortified settlement on the edge of the EHRA territory -- it's a small city of a few thousand residents that's basically a large military and agricultural base with a civilian merchant district attached to it. It's on the edge of the pseudo Coalition State territory, and is a meeting place between the Outback culture and townships and the arcologies of the Golden Coast. You'll spend a lot of time in the Outback itself -- Bastion City -- the starting settlement -- is right on the border between the Outback and the Gold Coast territories.
You should plan for activities like:
Exploring abandoned mine complexes
Defending convoys running from Bastion City to Outback townships
Fighting raiders in the Outback
Exploring crashed UFO vessels in the wastes
Exploring portals that open in the Outback
Fighting incipient demon cults selling hellrock in Bastion City

Perenian "Perry" Ethgarnon |

Right, none of that screams "heavy artillery fired from range." But that's okay, I made a couple small tweaks to powers. I still need to choose a weapon and armor yet but that shouldn't stop us from getting started whenever we're ready.

Noah.James |

Can't get changes to save at the moment, but here is a messy version of an alias for SuperTumbler's character.
I plan to give him a repair kit, trauma kit. Will still have about 23000 credits to spend. There isn't as much gear in the book as I thought.

Perenian "Perry" Ethgarnon |

Stuff:
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 6) = 17 x 100 = 1700 credits
2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 x 500 = 2500 gear
Armor: Combat Mage Heavy EBA (TW)
Personal Weapon: Fireburst Rifle (TW)
Gear: Communicator (1500 cr) and 1000 cr worth of food/supplies.
NG-S2 Survival Pack

Excellent character, Perry. I like a man who likes options, of which you have many. You know how TW gear works, yeah?
Yes, Rizzenmagnus (can I call ya, Rizz for short?) we are looking for another plucky hero.
Being a preeminent gamer, I assume you have familiarity with the both Savage World and the Rifts setting. Please make a character and post it. As always, ask any questions you may have.
Noah, is there some type of gear that you wish you had? As I said, we have access to several splatbooks, the SciFi book among them. Perhaps you want some cyberware or something? Like, for a lousy 12K you can get a Targeting eye.

RIZZENMAGNUS |

never played savage world. i do know the rifts setting...well, the setting found in the core rulebook. not the expansions.
i have the Swade edition of SW rifts, but i have no idea what to look for, what to roll, any of that stuff.
to be honest, since this is my first foray into this system, id be better off working off of a pregen character and learning the system as we play.

![]() |

I like how you're thinking, Rizz. A strong man knows his limits.
I have a Cyberknight in my very own repertoire that I'll post shortly. He's a melee monster with some magic tricks. If you want personality, he's fallen here from a Rift that was opened in the Warp while on crusade for The Emperor. Fully convinced that this all a trick of the Xenos, he is determined to be savior of sacred Terra and lead all of Earth back into the stars. The Emperor protects.
If at any time you make a character of your own and you want to switch out just let me know.

Perenian "Perry" Ethgarnon |

Excellent character, Perry. I like a man who likes options, of which you have many. You know how TW gear works, yeah?
Yes. I took the Heavy armor not because I expect to use it often but because it has the most barter value.
We are 4 now? That's enough to rock and roll.

The bad news is I think Xydar has dropped. Sent him a PM and have not heard back. The good news is that I'm getting touch with others that have a better posting history. Now that my illness is letting up I finally have brain power for that.

I have looked through some Rifts books and Savage Worlds books, but haven't really found anything.
I'm buying a repair kit, and a medical kit, binoculars. I have the survival thing. I guess that is enough. I just see him as a gear head, so he should have all of the gear. But I have a built in cyber computer, and a built in environmental survival package. I'll also buy some radiation exposure systems.
Maybe something to cover senses. Darkvision equivalent on the armor's helmet maybe.

Blargh, this cold is letting up, but not gone yet.
Noah, all basic gear from the SWADE handbook is in play, and on page 68 there is night vision goggles. 500 for the base unit, or 1000 for the good stuff.
Anything else?

kool. thanks.
i got an old avatar im gonna apply the stats to and post as him....
axshually....
i need to flex my mental creativity....
so i will post as her
Follow up question:
i dont know about the rest of you all, but i like to, for all my games, create a Discord server. The main focus of it is to provide a fall back position should paizo website ever crash again. gives everyone a chance to continue with the play.
the side benefit is that a lot of OOC discussion happens as well.
thoughts?

@Noah, and everyone who is starting with a MARS package: Can you please list your Advances in normal SW format? So we know which were taken with experience?
Remember, 4 advances actually puts you one into Seasoned. So hence:
Novice:
5XP: Edge
10XP: Edge
15 XP: Att. increase
Seasoned:
20XP: Edge
I find this helps for numerous reasons, not the least of which being when someone asks "How many XP does the party have?" we actually know, and can know for certain that no one took one Advance too many.
Also, I don't think that affects anyone, but it might, if, for your last Advance, you take an Attribute increase, that means you can't take another one until Veteran.
@Noah: Please make sure to list all the Mods taken for the Mountaineer near it, just like you did for the weapons on the motorcycle.
That way it's easy to find when I want to know what the thing is packing. ^_^

![]() |

As for weapons, with those rules I'll probably just go with a single particle beam, armor, amphibious, and anti missile. That should be 5 points.
Gah. We agreed on a MK1 right? I thought so. Here are stats. REmember it has 4 mod points. Just don't worry about the AMCM. With your Electronic skill no one's hitting you anytime soon.
Mountaineer ATV 6 (Large) +1 120 MPH 34 (16) 1+5 4 76,000
Notes: ATV, ECC, MDC Armor, STS, Max Range 600 miles, Rarity –2.
Particle Beam Cannon 40/80/160 4d8+4 16 1 — 2 −5 650,000
Notes: Add +2d6 damage on a raise; Atomic Annihilation (see page 100).
Of note, most everyone in the world refers to a Particle Beam Cannon interchangeably as a "PPC" or Particle Projection Cannon. They mean the same thing. But PPC is cooler.

Blargh.
RE: Starting; it's weird that it's been so hard to get a 4th. I've sent out more invites.
We've got a couple options.
1) Wait until a 4th person posts. As confident as I was about this a week ago, I admit after a week of having failed on that front I'm not blind to the difficulty of more waiting.
2) Go with what we have. We have 3 good, proven posters, all with non-zero knowledge of SW. All of them have a legion of skills and options, so it's not like we're really missing anything.
3) Some combination. We could start with the 3 we have, and then just hand-wave more players if/when they come in. Balls, in my IRL D&D group I wanted to change from a fighter to a bard and we just said "Yep! You've ALWAYS been a bard!" and we just went with it. I have absolutely no problems with this. Thus, if we get a 4th or 5th we just say we've always had the at person. They've just been napping.

I'm fine with getting started. Late Saturday or sometime Sunday I'll take a crack at getting my profile locked down with better formatting and correct vehicle. (I forgot to change it in the character generator).
Sebecloki, in the Rifts Australia book there is a Devil 4x4 NT-1200 Multi Purpose vehicle. For flavor purposes, should we name my vehicle something based on that?
Arch-Devil 6x6 NT-2200? Something like that?

That sounds fine for naming conventions.
