Deregar gapes at the mosaics. "Wow! Look at this legacy of the past."


Clearing away some of the grime covering the mosaics, Deregar sees that they depict simple village life: hunting, fishing, and farming.

Society: Success! The summoner interprets the village life depicted as that of ancient Kellids, and that the art style and certain fashions depicted exclude Taldan influence, suggesting this barrow’s creation predates the Second Army of Exploration, dating it over 4,000 years old.

You can use the discoveries as a display in one Museum of their choice constructed anywhere in their kingdom, despite the fact that these items aren’t magical items. This display need not consist of the physical carvings on the walls here—detailed copies or painted reproductions will suffice.

Nothing happens when Sariana walks through the room. The magical sensors do not trigger. Perhaps the trap is only designed to affect living creatures?

Taking advantage of this fact, the monk attacks the stone faces with impunity. Destroying them all renders the trap inoperable!

While most of the skeleton’s equipment has rotted away, a tarnished copper ventriloquist’s ring still encircles one bony finger.

"That went well." Sari says once the cloud of dust and stone chips dies down. "Let's go straight ahead, that's usually where the important things are."


The walls of this chamber are adorned with a plethora of weapons, shields, armor, and tattered banners and standards. Interspersed among the displayed arms are scenes of battle, pillage, and conquest. These carvings are caked in flaking pigments, and many have been defaced, apparently by repeated weapon blows.

A withered undead warrior stands here, wielding a broken bastard sword and wooden shield. He lets loose a snarl as he prepares to fight!

Sariana closes her wounds with a moment's thought and then fights on. Tandri is going to need to deal with the skeletons behind them so she gets on with destroying the champion.

"I. See. Them!" Tandri says, whirling around and concentrating. Her goddess has never told her one way or another her thoughts about undead, though Tandri has only really felt divine whispers in certain cheek reddening moments in her life, or those times huddled in tears, burning with a desire to pay back the world.

The theory is sound though, Heal to Harm, instead of her Harm to Heal which she does for Lady Nightsong. She prays, directs the mass heal to catch the bunched up skeletons and hopefully not the vampire.

While Tyr continues to claw away at the wright, Deregar calls up a magical barrier and moves to separate the newly-appeared skeletons from Tandri and Floare.

Tandri's channeled positive energy completely destroys one of the skeletons while injuring the others, as well as the wight. Floare hits two of the remaining skeletons with burning rays, but the fire doesn't seem too effective against the bony undead.

Deregar interposes himself between the skeletons and the spellcasters while Tyr and Sariana continue to attack the wight. Neither one manages to hit.

The wight attacks Sariana again, keeping his shield up.

This time, the turtle gets a good bite in. Tyr's enhanced jaws tear at the wight's legs, then Sariana delivers a fatal blow! The wight retaliates a final time out of spite before collapsing in a lifeless heap!

18 damage to Sariana.

The only thing of value remaining in the barrow seems to be the wight's broken sword. If repaired, it will function as a +1 cold iron flaming bastard sword.

"Nicely done girls!" Sariana says with a smile, hefting the wight's broken blade in her one working arm. "We should get this fixed and then see what the runes are supposed to do. Deregar or I should be able to use them. My thanks to you as well Tyr." Always stay on the right side of the dragon.

With nothing else of interest in the barrow Sariana leads the way out once more. "I don't think we need to do anything with this now." She says. "The art might be worthwhile one day but for now we push on. Southwards I think and back towards the lake."

Floare steps in front of the celebrating vampire.

"You're not going anywhere, 'Your Highness'," she says with hands on her hips and a raised eyebrow. "At least not until we tend to your injuries." She gives Tandri a meaningful glance before directing Sariana to take a seat on a nearby large rock.

She stands, watching with arms folded while the dwarf deals with their benefactress. Once she's satisfied that Tandri has the situation in hand, she turns to Deregar and looks him over, checking for any wounds.

"You know I like it when you call me that." Sariana purrs in Floare's ear, apparently unconcerned about her injuries. Indeed her flesh is slowly closing before the witches concerned eyes but she allows Floare to push her around with no protest and little more than a trailing hand to brush her buttocks as the witch turns away.

"Save your magic Sweetling, I'll be better before we rest tonight." Sariana replies. "Especially if I get a kiss from my best girls." Her dark eyes gleam with mischief as she grabs Tandri's hair and pulls the tiefling into a long and deep kiss.

"Watching you blast those skeletons gave me quite the thrill you know..." She whispers into the tiefling's delicious pink lips. "We'll put Deregar on watch tonight so I can show you exactly how thrilling.

As they move on Sariana does indeed look better and better, her wounds closing until there is no sign of the battering she's taken. The vampire, apparently feeling playful, requests regular kisses from both her girls, claiming "That it's making me feel better already!" No longer inhibited about her particular needs she sits with Floare as Deregar and Tandri prepare dinner, caressing the witch's skin before sinking her fangs into Floare's neck and taking a welcome, but careful draught of the witches blood.

"I just can't get enough of you Little One." Sariana murmurs, her tongue lapping up any remnants of Floare's precious blood. "Deregar is on first watch tonight."


After resting, you head southwest. Normally quite deep along most of its length, the Gudrin River becomes rather shallow here, creating a navigable ford across its width.

This counts as a Landmark.

A camp has been set up here, an expedition of nine gnome explorers. The leader approaches you with a warm smile. "Hello there! Greetings! Salutations! I am Jubilost Narthropple, explorer extraordinaire! I've heard tell of you. You are the leaders of the nascent nation of Nightsong, are you not? Pleased to make your acquaintances!"

"And yours." Sariana replies, "What business do you have on the borders of my 'nascent nation'? You seem well supplied, an expedition of exciting exploration perhaps?"

"Exactly!" Jubilost replies. "We have been mapping and surveying the Stolen Lands for the past couple months, looking for evidence of First World influences in the region. I have drawn up quite a collection of maps of the southern Greenbelt during my quest for encroaching energies. I'd be happy to share it with you if you grant me leave to continue my exploration in your lands."

"Interesting? Have you seen evidence of such influence? We've scouted quite a bit in the area and haven't noticed anything in particular." Deregar thinks back to their encounters, but doesn't notice a pattern of fey interference.


"I've not seen it myself, but I have read about it!" Jubilost proclaims. "There are old accounts from Taldor's Second Army of Exploration. They noted evidence in this region of a 'thinness' between this world and the First World. I liquidated all of my assets to fund this expedition! I will find what I seek! I must! I have voraciously devoured every book I could find about cartography, geography, and exploration. I have the skills I need to succeed--in theory, at any rate."

Hearing Tandri's mumblings, Floare takes a step back to stand shoulder to shoulder with the dwarf. "Sounds familiar?" she questions under her breath. "Have you heard of him before?"

"Well, you've done your research." Deregar grins at the gnome. "Watch out for wolves, though. They like the taste of flesh more than the taste of parchment."

Deregar defers to Lady Nightsong concerning permission to enter the lands.

"A fair bargain well made." Sariana says. "Your maps for the ability to make more. You will be welcome in Stag's End should you choose to come, or at Danteville in the north. Now, I would be very interested to see what you have discovered thus far."

Deal accepted.

As the two groups mingle Sariana watches carefully for any sign of reticence or fear from the gnomes. She doesn't necessarily expect it, but it is interesting to see whether word of her true nature has spread.

Tandri scrunched her nose, thinking, but then sighs. "No... I think... Ju-bi-lost..." she sounds out his name slowly, SURE there is something. "No" she sounds dejected. And all that thinking made her miss the conversation. "what does he want?" she looks up to Floare.

As if in agreement with Deregar, Dante gives a token growl. The young wolf has been growing in the last few months and his shoulders now reach the middle of Floare's thigh.

"Dante!" the witch hisses under her breath. "Be polite!"

I am being polite, Mom; I didn't bite him.

Floare shakes her head and leans closer to Tandri. "He wants to make more maps and attempt to prove that there are First World influences around here."

Tandri listens to the whisper in her ear, lost in its melody for a moment before the words settle into her brain enough to respond. "First world? Oh, Fey folk. Didn't we meet two of them in a tree not too far from the trading post? They had been tormenting poor Harrim. Maybe we should send this one to them?"


"Splendid!" Jubilost cries, reaching out to shake Sariana's cold hand.

The gnome happily shares his maps with you. They detail a large portion of the area you have already explored, but they also show a few sights of interest. Southwest of Stag's End is an island where a tribe of lizardfolk dwell. East of that is Candlemere Island, which features a strange an enigmatic tower. And further to the east is Lake Silverstep, which Jubilost notes is known to host an enormous variety of fish, which could be a great food resource for your growing kingdom.

With the gnomes in tow Sariana returns to Nightsong to oversee the expansion into the foothills and the construction of the new mine. With Nightsong growing apace things are looking good - resources are coming in swiftly and a great destiny looms. Not bad inside a year!

The kingdom is growing, making pulling enough food harder. And merchants smell their needs, meaning demand raised prices. Tandri considered a variety of ways to make the merchants more pliable. Most involved needles of some kind. Or hot coals. A sack full of angry crabs possibly.

Nightsong continues to advance, expanding eastwards to claim the Lonely Barrow and continuing the road network that now stretches from Stag's End almost to Danteville and the eastern road to Brevoy. A tavern opens in Stag's End, although the improved access to alcohol causes a small spike in crime, and Danteville completes work on permanent housing for the first time.
