Tarka and Khon'Ur team up to finish the hydra off. Axetongue's guards swarm in with nets, long sticks, and ropes, but it quickly becomes clear that none of that is necessary. When the hydra's death becomes obvious to the observers, many cheers erupt from the stands, though a few boos can be heard as well--clearly some were betting against the group of Pathfinders!

Axetongue approaches you with congratulations. "If you follow me, I've got a bag of coin for you in the office. Don't worry about that thing; I make enough on the gambling to buy three more and still turn a profit. Cost of doing business!" he laughs, unrepentant.

True to his word, you are sent off with a little bonus on top of the 800 gp you were promised. You return to Heidmarch Manor with some extra funds for bidding, and get ready for the auction proper.

Seltyel returns happy to the manor. A hydra and he did not get a single scratch!

Venture-Agent, Play-by-Post | TL;DR Group

The last of the attendees are shuffled into the Cathedral of Abadar and the crowd eagerly await the beginning of the auction. A portly man takes to the stage, and with a voice like a foghorn declares, "The auction is open!" which sets off a hum through the crowd as people start jostling for position and readying their auction bidding paddles, as though they were cutlasses with which to defeat the auction itself.

Falrig Sneve looks around at the readied crowd with a broken resolve and shakes his head. "Too much competition and too rich for my blood. Fold!"

Before the bidding can get underway Maiveer Sloan calls out, "I don’t have the funds on hand, but let my organization put down credit on the key! I can have the extra funds in a few months and you know we’re good for it!" The auctioneer purses his heavy lips in sympathetic understanding but the proctor interjects, "The rules state this auction would be a fast sell only with coin in hand."

"Sir! I protest!" Maiveer pleads. "I have been victimized and robbed - and though I make no issue of it now I protest that I would have had the coin had it not been so! The rogues, robbers, and conspirators sit right under this very roof and gain from this injustice!" The proctor, having none of it, simply replies, "Contain yourself sir, or the church will have you removed."

Once it becomes apparent that there will be no further distractions or drop-outs, the bidding then begins with fury, paddles being thrust into the air representing thousands of gold at a time. Kresch Vaor is the first to reach her limit as she calls, "Bah, too much for an old key. Proctor, I’m out. Have one of your clergymen transfer my deposit to my personal account."

Though you might have thought the distractions and interruptions were over, you’re proven wrong when a group of toughs barges in and heads straight for Dymal Rinks. "Oi, Rinks! Minvandu wants a little word with you," the ringleader explains with a grim expression. Rinks begins to protest, but two burly half-orcs simply grab an arm each and pick him up and start walking out. As much as some of you might desire to get involved, you know that it would likely jeopardize your whole mission - so for now, you opt to not get involved. On the way out Minvandu’s chief legbreaker pauses and turns to the proctor. "Sorry about this interruption, bit of confusion needing to be dealt with and all. Whatever deposit Rinks tried to put down on the auction belongs to our employer, Mr. Minvandu. I’ll send someone around later to collect it, after the boss has a few private words with Rinks." Rinks is then dragged out of the auction house, kicking and screaming.

The auction begins again in earnest and the number of bidders continues to thin as The Duchesses, distant and mysterious as always, silently signal their desire to tap out. They quickly exit the premises.

Doctor Landis starts to make another offer and then seems to decide against it - some concern playing at the back of his mind no doubt. He lowers his hand, and simply gestures that he’s cut himself off by waving his hand across his throat.

With only Pathfinders and Lady Kaddren remaining in the bidding war, the atmosphere gets tense - it is clear that Lady Kaddren is determined to win. Yet as she is about to bid another breathtaking sum, a runner presents her with a note which she quickly reads. After, she grimaces at the assembled crowd and in a threatening tone says, "This time, you got lucky. From here out, you might want to watch your backs." Then she turns to the proctor and tells him, "You can close my bids out" before tucking the note into her cloak and storming out of the cathedral.

All of the other bidders now gone, the auction proceeds until only one Pathfinder table remains in the running. "Going, going, gone! And sold to Table Five with the red coloured paddle for a final price of forty thousand gold pieces! Table Five, please send one representative to the front of the room to claim your prize!"

A seasoned half-elven Pathfinder who identifies himself as Omrax the Bold strides up to collect. Just as the auctioneer is about to hand Omrax the prize, a tremendous flash of light and smoke appears behind the auctioneer and the very fabric of reality is sliced open! Seconds later, a black-robed figure steps through the rift and pulls a jagged black-bladed dagger across the auctioneer’s throat, sending a shower of blood into the screaming crowd of bidders. The remorseless assassin snatches the Runecarved Key and in a fit of mad laughter bursts into dozens of shadowy black forms, each fleeing from the cathedral in a different direction!

Assassin!

Spell Templates | Race for the Runecarved Key (Tier 1-2) | CORE 10-10 The Shattered Shield | TBD

Suddenly an ear-piercing whistle sounds. Without warning, the stained glass windows of the cathedral simultaneously shatter inward in a colorful barrage of flying glass.

Everyone needs to make a DC 10 Reflex save to avoid the falling glass. Roll 1d6 damage (P/S) with your save; take half that damage (or none if you have evasion) if you make the save, full damage if you fail. You may roll off-screen healing from the hydra battle first; you had time to do that while you were getting ready for the auction.

Amid the rain of glass shards, a horde of cultists comes crashing through the now empty cathedral windows. With weapons drawn, they attempt to surround all the patrons inside, blocking their escape and delaying pursuit of the assassin. Your goal at this point is to get past the cultists and out the front door, marked with the blue arrow. Of course, fighting the cultists is a viable way of getting past them.

Kalak ignores the spray of glass, letting it fuel the anger that drives him to fight. He rushes through the scrum in the aisle before any of the cultists can act; he brandishes his massive earthbreaker at the cultist nearest the door! You are correct; they're flat-footed, so no AoOs at present.

Leowarin catches a spray of glass himself, but brushes it aside as he moves towards the door, tossing a bomb at the closest cultist. His aim is off, though, and the bomb shatters in the aisle beside the cultist instead, only splashing a bit of the fiery liquid on the cultist's leg. Note: the cultist you targeted is 15' away; bombs have a range of 10'. Leo would take a -2 range penalty on that throw. He missed even without that penalty, though; just wanted to point it out.

Yes; the right of the map explains how the map features affect movement. The pews are difficult terrain (crossing them, not moving parallel) and the pillars are impassible.

Putting Khon'Ur on delay

Kalak slips on the grease, but quickly picks himself up and moves to challenge the cultist who made the mess.

Leowarin throws another bomb, splashing some flaming goo across the pew onto the cultist, but not quite getting the full effect of the mixture.

Tarka puts a bullet in the belly of the downed cultist, making sure that he stays down.

Stavarg decides to try to help finish what Leowarin started, but his blast goes wide. (The orange cultist has total cover due to the obscuring mist; redirected to yellow, but it's a miss regardless.)

Seltyiel puts a sword in the belly of the cultist at his feet; trying to ensure that he won't stand again.

The red-robed cultist continues to bleed out on the floor.

The cultist in the fog can't be seen; the Pathfinders have no idea what they might be doing.

The yellow-haired cultist curses as the spell on her scroll fizzles; Leo's bomb still had its intended effect it seems. They quickly cast another spell, bringing up another patch of fog in the room.

The green-eyed cultist by Kalak scrambles away from the barbarian, almost crawling across pews to get away. Withdraw action to avoid the AoO

Foes in the mist have total concealment from more than 5' away; they can't be targeted or located by sight, so I've hidden them on the map. I've put a colored star at their last known location, but they may have moved from that spot. If you want to venture into the mist to try to find them, go ahead and draw a search path up to the limit of your (double) movement; I find the "Polyline" tool works best for this, as it can draw turns (click the small arrow by the "Line" tool to find the "Polyline" tool). Include whatever Standard action you'd like to take if you find them before you start a second movement action. The mist doesn't slow your speed; crossing pews is difficult terrain though.

Khon'Ur was initially last to act in round 1, so if I back out the delay, he's also last to act in round 2 which is equivalent to first in round 3. So two rounds of actions catches him up perfectly to where we are right now. You're exactly where you need to be. I'm going to leave the initiative block the way it is, as I can see how that round break introduced the confusion.

Tarka, I've moved you back to your starting position. If you move this round (which you certainly can still do), you need to roll Acrobatics DC 10 to move across the grease; if you fail, you will fall prone and lose the rest of your movement. If you succeed, that 1st square of grease is at half-speed (i.e. it costs 10' of movement instead of 5'). The creatures are blocking the door (double-doors behind cyan and blue); attempting to move through cyan's square would require an additional Acrobatics check vs. the creature's CMD+5, if that's still what you want to do. Failing that 2nd Acrobatics check will stop your movement in front of the creature, provoking an Attack of Opportunity.

Being the monsters in the way of Seltyel towards the street, the half-elf is decided to check if his sword is effective against them. He approaches the closest one and attacks with his weapon.

Tarka fires at one of the fiends at the door, but their mishappen, fleshy appearance disturbs her to her core, and her aim is far off.
Acrobatics DC 10: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
She attempts to move forward across the grease, but even moving cautiously she slips, falling prone.

Seltyiel closes on the fiends at the door, and--concerned that his sword may not be effective--he gives a test swing at the closest. Though his aim is true, the sword seems to pass through the creature's flesh harmlessly; no wound remains once he withdraws the blade! DR prevented all of the damage from this strike

Leowarin skids around the corner and pulls out a bomb. His aim is a little off and the bomb flies farther than he intended, but it still explodes on top of one of the fiends, splashing its neighbor as it does so. Neither fiend seems affected by the liquid fire of the bomb in the least, though. They have either resistance or immunity to fire that prevented all of the damage from the bombs

Stavarg sends a blast of electricity into the face of the cultist that surprised him; the cultist falls with electrical burns spider-webbed across their face!

Khon'Ur closes with the trio at the door, slamming his pick down hard, but he misses! He leaves a sizeable chip in the marble floor of the cathedral. Just a miss, DR didn't come into play

None of those apply, but in the future I would recommend making the roll with your post anyway; that way the GM could reply with the info you learned immediately, instead of waiting for another posting cycle to get around to it.

The yellow-haired cultist emerges from the mist and conjures more grease onto the battlefield, putting it right below Khon'Ur's feet. Khon'Ur, please make a DC 14 Reflex save or fall prone!

The green-eyed cultist circles the pillars at the front and sends a small glob of acid towards Khon'Ur! The acid is aimed well, leaving a small burn on the dwarf's face!

Two of the fiends at the door strike at their nearby foes, one attacking Khon'Ur and the other Seltyiel. Each tries to rend with mismatched claws that emerge from unnatural places on the creature's bodies, but neither can connect with their foe. The third fiend stays in place in front of the door.

Kalak comes at the fiends from behind, smashing one with his massive earthbreaker. Though it clearly doesn't do as much damage as expected, the fiend is unable to fully reform its flesh around the gaping wound.
