"Hold on. Let's try a better version of it," She produces a stronger burst of healing to help with the wounds.

Heal, emanation, Healing Front: 2d8 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12

Once that was done, she turned away. "I don't think it helped whoever used to own it," she replied sadly.

Zainab's spell fills all of you with an even warmer inner fire and magically, all your wounds are healed, restored to how you felt when you first showed up to the Call for Heroes -- now with more experience. Whatever is ahead, better watch out!

After that cast, everyone is healed in full. What next?

Watching the rest of his wounds magically close as Zainab soothes our bodies with further magical healing.

Speaking up, "If everyone is ready, let us continue diving deeper into this place," With that he opens the southern door in the slime room.

"My thanks, Zainab." Olaf remarks, gratefully, standing back up tall and hefting his shield. "I feel... strangely invigorated, and ready to tackle what's next. On we go?"

Seeing Fentus moving to the southern door, Olaf waits for the door to open, ready to head through, shield raised.

Fentus pushes open the door at the end of the armory, and it seems to lead back towards the west, into a chamber bedecked with Hellknight art, paintings, tapestries and the like. Every one of them is ruined, defaced, scrawled over or torn and nothing of value remains here. No threats are detected either.

This room is basically empty of interest, and is a mirror image of the one to the north of it. The only unexplored parts of this dungeon level are where the "dead things" are to the south. Just pick which passage you want to try first...unless you have other plans.

"Well. Possessed dolls, oozes, and kobolds taken care of. Shall we take our chances with the dead?"

Trista asks Fentus to illuminate her new sword and leads the way toward the easternmost unexplored passage.

Only half listening to Trista, he reaches out and Lights her new sword, "Dead, hunh? I've never seen the undead before, not many of those just walking around Absalom,"

Fentus prepares himself for the worst and follows closely behind Trista down the unexplored passageways.

NG female human cleric of Jaidz 36/48 | AC 15| F +9 R +5 W +11 | Perc +9 | Int +0 | speed 25 ft

"I've only heard rumors myself," Zainab added. "But there's many people who would want more created. Like followers of Urgathoa or worse... the Whispering Way," she winced. "Thankfully I don't think they're the ones causing all this trouble."

The easternmost passage bends at an odd diagonal angle after about 30', then, as the party follows along, ends at dead end wall. No doors or other means of egress are visible here.

Since she is in the lead, Trista searches the area a bit, and quickly comes across a stone that slides to the side, revealing a catch that seems like it might open a closed off portion of the wall.

A secret door!

Let me know if you choose to open the catch and see what's behind secret door #1.

Heck yes!

"Well, what do we have here?" Trista carefully triggers the hidden latch.

When the latch is triggered, the entire wall gives way opening outward with a grinding sound that echoes through the hallway. Six looming raised daises stretch from east to west in this chamber, each bearing a massive stone coffin with a carving of a fully armed and armored Hellknight lying in stately repose. Upon closer inspection, the details of the various weapons and minor variations in the armor of the figures distinguish these tombs. Two of the coffins loom ominously open. The east wall bears a complex series of inscriptions composed of faintly glowing pale blue runes.

Wandering in the crypt are two undead humanoids, seemingly devoid of reason until you enter, they turn to attack with vicious intent.

Recall Knowledge DC 18:
These relatively powerful undead are wights. Fearsome drainers of life energy, they can steal your vitality with a single touch. In addition to energy drain, they are immune to death, disease, paralysis, poison, and cannot be rendered unconscious

The Red Wight moves from one of the room to the other, then slashes out at Trista, who is first into the secret room, with its sharpened, black claws.

Next Blue Wight, who started much closer, steps up and attacks the young hero with both claws, missing once, but making the potential life draining touch with the other.

You see that both wights seem to puff up with extra energy after hitting Trista.

Trista is hit twice before anyone can react for 17hp dmg. She also must make TWO DC 17 Fort saves or receive the drained condition for each failure, which will add more damage also. The party is now up against these undead terrors.

Trista, wounded pretty badly, at least avoids the life drain from the undead. She slides past them onto the raised platform where the sarcophagi lie and turns to attack Red Undead. She scores a critical hit against the target after consulting the book, which adds slightly more damage.

Seeing Trista hurt, Zainab casts an abjuration spell that wards her against further attacks.

Stepping into the room, Olaf swings his big sword hitting Red Wight. The magus then raises his shield, trying to ward off any counterattacks.

Fentus casts one of his new spells, creating a large sphere of fire on the floor next to the Blue Wight. But the undead monster is just shifty enough to avoid any damage from the fire.

Red Wight bends backwards from Olaf's blade but still reaches out to try to touch the magically warded Trista. But the holy magic holds up, and the undead cannot breach the defensive spell.

Blue Wight also tries to rake the protected Trista wiht its claws, but the attack also fails versus the Sanctuary spell and Trista ends up unharmed. The Blue Wight then turns towards Olaf and attempts a 2nd strike, which barely gets around Olaf's shield, slashing him for minor damage, but the life drain is more of a concern.

Works for me. Need your actions for this round also.

Hall of Lictors - Round 2 - continued

Fentus moves the flaming ball across the floor, placing it squarely on the Red Wight. The undead creature fails to protect itself at all from the flames and takes critical burn damage as the smell of burning undead flesh fills the crypt. The sorceror is also able to create another spell giving a magical boost to Trista

Failing the save gives Olaf the drained 1 condition, which reduces his HP by 3, and his max HP by 3 as well. Now he is at 33/35. Need a night's rest to restore max hp total. It also adds to the Blue Wight's HP total.

Drained of some life energy, Olaf still manages to fight through the pain and deliver the Red Wight a telling blow, followed up by a claw strike cantrip. The magically-enhanced damage seems to be enough, and the Red Wight crumbles into skeletal dust.

Trista turns her shortsword on the remaining wight, striking three times, but not connecting on any of the attacks. The hostile action ends the magical warding spell as well, leaving Trista exposed to attack once again.

Olaf's attack was not a crit, but the flaming sphere did most of the work. Any hostile action ends sanctuary. Need actions form Zainab to end the round.

With the help of a magical buff from Fentus, Trista is just able to hold off the life draining touch from the remaining wight. She then scrambles behind the undead, and stabs at it twice. The first attack might have been a miss normally, but with the target flat-footed, Trista exclaims as both stabs hit the target with additional damage as well.

Fentus once again moves the flaming sphere into the square with the wight. The undead flesh of the wight burns in the magical fire, then burns again as Fentus chucks more conjured flame at it.

The combined damage from flames and blades is enough for the last wight, to wither, and fall, ending the fight.

Olaf breathes out a puff of air as the last monster falls and remarks, "Oof, their touch is nasty. But I'm OK, mostly."

Looking to Zainab, "Thanks for the healing."

With the undead fight over for now, the team has a chance to rest, catch their breath, and think about how much worse those wight-touches could've been.

The room here holds the six raised crypts that dominate what is left. Two of those crypts are broken open from the inside, revealing perhaps how the wights came to be. There is a series of glowing blue runes painted on the south wall that appear you cannot read at first glance.

There does not seem to be any other means of egress from this room besides the secret door you entered from.

What do you wish to do now?

"Thanks, Zeinab. We would have been sunk without your healing." Trista snaps her book shut and begins picking at the seals on the crypt.

Fentus nods as Zanaib heals the group, ”I can help out if we are in a dire pinch too.”

Looking to Olaf, ”Alright Olaf, let’s crack this crypt? I’m sure the Hellknights wont mind too much,” nudging him in the ribs, ”Hopefully there’s not a slime hiding in here, hah”

Olafs chuckle at the joke is decidedly half hearted, but he never the less leans over the crypt and prepares to help push it open.

The lids of the crypts (except for the two broken ones) seem to have a hinge and lock system that would allow them to open easily, but all the locks are closed. Each sepulcher seems to have a metallic nameplate embossed on it; the first three of the nameplates are so old and tarnished as to be unreadable, but last three are still legible. They read Lictor Serafina DiViri, Lictor Rexinald Harvenskein, and Lictor Yorick Mellano. The crypts of Diviri and Mellano are the open ones, and it appears there is still something inside each, not a body, but the glint of something metallic.

It does appear that if you could martial enough strength you might be able to force the lids open anyway if the locks won't open.

Trista tries her best to copy the pale blue glowing runes into her book.

Zainab casts another healing spell that closes some of the wounds from the wight attacks.

You may make an attempt to Force Open (Athletics) or Pick a Lock (Thievery). Pick a Lock is a secret roll, so if you choose that option, just share your modifier. And let me know which crypt you start with.

[ooc]I will say that neither of the two other groups I took this far managed to defeat the wights. One group somehow bypassed this hallway altogether, and the other failed a bunch of saves and chickened out and ran. So well done!

Trista is Thievery +10. She'll start with the closest crypt to the door, checking for traps first as best she is able--Perception +7
