On the far side of the puddle of water is a strange chamber, crackling with magical energy. Pulsing orbs float in three of the four corners of this room. The orb in the southwest is made of brown earth and stone, whereas the one in the northeast looks to be made of glass, and is filled with a swirling cloud. The orb in the far corner holds a roaring flame; opposite that orb are shattered remains and the water that flows down the
passageway to the northwest.
Merisiel Silvari
Merisiel looks around and nods to Ezren about the magic. "These orbs seem to represent the four elements." She indicates the brown earthy orb, the cloudy orb, and the fire orb. She looks at the wet floor and adds, "Maybe the water one broke? Perhaps we can repair it." From where she's standing, she looks around for remnants of a fourth orb.

Merisiel charges forward and flanks the creature with Valeros. Her eyes water and she, too, feels nauseous. But she stabs the creature anyway and connects. Ezren sends a bolt of force at the creature, and follows it up with a snowball. The Force Bolt slams into the creature, but the creature appears to squeal louder at the snowball's impact.

Sorry, forgot to mention -- DC is 22.
Valeros manages to purge the smoke from his lungs and rolls around in the water to put the fires out. Merisiel still feels nauseous but manages to patch up Valeros.
The penalty from sickened wouldn't affect the outcome
Merisiel examines the orbs.
The one in the SE corner is pretty much destroyed. The creature was using it as a hiding spot. The other two are intact and appear to be relatively stable. The one in the NE corner appears to be filled with a swirling cloud. The other one looks like it's a solid rock.
Merisiel Silvari
After examining the orbs, Merisiel moves to the one with the swirling cloud and tries to take it.
If it's not removeable, she turns to the wizard, "Ezren, anything you can detect with this cloudy orb or that rocky one over there?" Still feeling sick, she periodically goes to the flowing water to retch.

GM Tiger

When Merisiel touches the swirling cloud orb, a rush of wind fills the room, carrying a voice like a whisper. It says, "Call upon the wind to gain my blessing and soar through the sky."
You each get a special ability that you can use once within the next 24h. You can spend 1 action to call upon the wind and you can fly for your next action up to 40'. You will need to end on solid ground or you'll fall...
Valeros 20220306
”Wow, that's great! Should we touch the other balls too? Or the orbs of magic, whatever they are called.” Valeros says excitedly seeing that the wind orb gives them magical abilities.
Merisiel Silvari
Merisiel smiles excitedly when she learns she can fly, but she's just as interested in taking the orb as a trinket. If the orb can be removed, the rogue pockets it. She quickly explains, "For safe keeping, of course." She moves to the rocky orb and attempts to protect that one too by taking it into her care.
After taking (or touching) the rocky orb, Merisiel tries again to get rid of the sickness by retching into the water.
Fortitude DC 22: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
She needs an 18 on the die, so she's likely gonna be sick for a while. Unless she can spend a few minutes trying repeatedly.
GM Tiger
|
The orbs are anchored to the floor. You're not picking them up... Also the fire orb was big enough for the creature to hide in.
As Merisiel touches the other orb, you hear grinding and grumbling, like boulders falling down a hill. Amidst all that, you hear another voice, "Call upon the earth to gain its strength."
Within the next 24h you if you spend an action to call upon the earth, all your melee strikes deal 2 extra damage from a sudden surge of strength. This lasts until the start of your next turn.
Merisiel Silvari
Merisiel looks a little disappointed that the orbs are too big to take. "Tis a shame. They would've been in excellent hands, under my watchful eye. But it shall be fun to take advantage of some elemental power!" After the earth orb speaks to them, she tries once more to rid herself of the sickening smoke.
Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Feeling MUCH better, she nods to Ezren and moves over to the fire orb and touches it.
After they look around a little more, she asks, "Shall we see where this water leads?" She follows Valeros north.
