Bella, I will use Society, in this case.

Bella learns that, opposite to what Khiari is telling her, the Azlanti researchers had devices that could open portals to Elemental Planes. These devices did not require the operator to have any special magical aptitude. In fact, many researchers appear to have had little magical ability. What Khiari could have mistaken as city or roads are actually devices and portals.

Roark begins the open lots of unopened scrolls. Unfortunately, he opened those on the shelf where the contents are mostly empty scrolls or scrolls with unintelligible handwriting, or maybe drawing? He isn't even sure.

Stitch makes his banter before he proceeds to research. Pouring through some books, he learns that the researchers sometimes used the temporary portals to see what types of creatures wandered in. For instance, the records could detail their attempts to use various flammable substances as lures to draw forth fire elementals.

Rolling for Fran... Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Fran, with the help of Mister Midnight, actually the cat just naps on one of the shelves with scrolls, she learns that a great deal of work was dedicated to the study of gems and they ways in which they could be altered and improved to effectively store magical effects. Much of this combined research utilized both earth and fire portals. She even finds among the scrolls a scroll of magic missile.

Moments later, a barely audible rumbling reverberates throughout the rooms and hallways. Dust and a few small rocks fall from the ceiling. There is a moment of silence followed by a sudden sharp crack as the floors shatter and split!!

Roll DC 15 basic Fortitude save or take 1d6 ⇒ 1 bludgeoning damage from falling rocks and other debris that rains down on you!

"Well, well well..." Bella grins as her theory reigns supreme. "Maybe YOU were flirting a bit too much during class to pay attention!" Khiari snorts and the two women begin bickering just as the cavern shakes to silence them. "That was... unexpected."

Roark is able to evade the falling debris, as well as Bella but not Khiari. No damage for Roark, 1 damage for Bella/Khiari. Roark then dances his way as stones fall and the floor moves, allowing him to gain Panache. He then moves and makes a beak attack to Stony but he misses.

Stony bites with its rock-hard jaw that has pointed teeth to Roark!

Stitch looks up from his work as the ceiling starts to collapse around them "Holy smokes its a cave in!" He starts to panic only to calm down a bit as the rock and roll band shows up, pummeling on his companions.

"Well crap, time to switch to grading work Meat!" He starts to apply lubricant freely between the both of them before hitting the controls.

Grading work? More like Meat Plowing work! Meat Wagon's exhaust valves spew out a massive amount of fumes as their carburetors flood the engine with extra fuel. The Wagon for Meat turns the corner and rams into Rocky repeatedly.

Rocky is not interested in what Bella does in front of it. Failure to gain Panache. Khiari makes a connection to the same creature with her hoof as she warns Fran. Rocky takes 4 bludgeoning damage. Both Stitch and Meat Wagon are bludgeoned with rocks they did not anticipate falling from the ceiling. He brings Meat Wagon into Overdrive (which is a Crit Success for DC 16 at level 2), making the construct have more powerful attacks. Meat Wagon then rams the flanked Rocky, only hitting it on the second strike.

Fran is quick to dodge the falling debris while her cat familiar lands on their face after being knocked off. Mister Midnight hastily stands and moves away after being commanded after which Fran sends one of the stones to Rocky (for a Crit Success) almost breaking it in the process because the living rock is still moving. Roark takes the chance to move into flanking position and break Rocky into mundane pieces with his beak before he raises his shield. Rocky is eliminated.

Stitch leans over and patches up Fran as she wobbles to and fro, whispering "Franny you look like crap, take two of these n call me in the morning!" He giggles, its a little creepy to be honest but he means well.

Fran feels momentarily dizzy from sheer blood loss and then the rush of healing that Stitch's efforts bring.

"T-thanks! Oog, I feel weird..." she gasps as she moves next to Mister Midnight. Though she feels fairly confident that her friends have things under control she opts to try throwing another rock with her mind...just to make sure.

Bella makes her move to catch the boulder's attention and her attempt is successful. Bella gains Panache. She then attacks its with the strike of her hammer, connecting to its hardy body. Pink takes 15 damage. Stitch quickly patches Fran's wounds with much healing before he and Meat Wagon engage to attack the remaining boulder. The first bump is a success but they miss on the second. Roark wants to finish the living thing off with the exquisite display of his tumbling through and beak attack. His beak breaks the boulder into mundane pieces before Fran can magically send a rock onto it.

There is nothing mentioned in the scenario as to its nature, but most probably it is structural for the cave. It only mentions if the PCs don't leave within a minute, they take 1d8 bludgeoning damage each minute they remain as debris rains down from above. Say, Stitch wants to at least save the scrolls they found, what do you propose to do and how long will it take him given the constraints mentioned above? Maybe we can work on that.

Since the area is just full of books and scrolls, Stitch can't find any material that can help stabilize the foundations of the crumbling cave. But hope is not lost, since he and Khiari are able to save some scrolls and books, quickly putting them in Meat Wagon's compartments while Fran and Bella silently leave and Roark squawks his way out before the whole thing closes in itself.

They return to Gorm Greathammer and report their findings. He is even surprised but happy to find them with salvaged books and scrolls. “Well, sounds like you’ve learned a great deal and perhaps there lies even more we can yet uncover! Maybe once things settle down in there, we can take another look. For now, you’ve done an excellent job and made a real contribution to our knowledge! And I think you have got a nice collection here." he tells them as he glances one more time at the books and scrolls. "For now, take your rest, and I will bring you and introduce to Calistro."

Everyone is back in full health and has their daily preparations.

Gorm brings them to another faction leader and briefly introduces them to her.

A striking figure leans casually against one of the ancient columns that juts from the surrounding swamp. She is a half-orc dressed like a fashionable sea captain, complete with tricorn hat. “Isn’t it exciting?” she asks, her rough voice deep and full of command. “I once thought the high seas were the only place for a true adventure, but the Pathfinders have shown me otherwise!” She pauses and deeply inhales the air. “I’m Calisro Benarry, leader of the Horizon Hunters. And I have heard about you from Gorm and learned some from Chronicles." she tells them.

"And I want those I heard and learned to see it myself. We Horizon Hunters get most excited by exploration. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of knowing you’re somewhere no one else has been in a thousand years! Or even better, finding a place no one has ever seen before. Admittedly, we sometimes get a little overeager to be the first, but that’s all part of the true joy of discovery.

“And I want to give you your first taste of that same thrill. Through that tunnel,” she says, nodding toward a dark hole leading into the hillside, “is an Azlanti ruin where no Pathfinder has ever explored. I have to admit, I’m more than a little jealous! Your job is to explore the area and report your findings to me. Questions?”

Bella spends the evening making sure Khiari is mostly uninjured. "That was reckless, stupid and horrifying. And yet, I'm quite jealous." She runs a comb through Khiari's head hair. "You quick thinking may have saved Stitch."

Khiari shrugs. "We're a team, right? And you can always dismiss me if it got too dangerous. I'm the most disposable one." She sighs. "It was exciting, though."

The morning has a new Venture Captain. Bella finds herself torn on how to exactly present herself. "The tunnel. Is there anything we should look out for? Buried treasure? Tales of a forgotten hero? A chance to vanquish a terrifying foe?"

The following morning Stitch is up early, drinking and eating any breakfast he can liberate while rechecking Meat Wagon's systems for any lingering damage or malfunction from yesterday's dungeon delve. "Another day another dollar. At least we all made it out ok and with some extra books in hand." Who's gonna pay us if we come back without something real?

At the briefing he mostly keeps quiet, leaning against a bent tree, striking a solid comparison to his own stooped posture. "I'm thinkin' we look out for rocks getting dropped on our heads and hopefully find something worth talking about.. and maybe a couple creepy crawly snacks for Mister Midnight to chase down." He grins, tossing the black cat some partially chewed gristle from his breakfast ham.

Its become clear he's got a soft spot for the cat, although he's not about to admit it verbally.

Hero Point time! I am giving a hero point to Stitch for his bravery despite the fact that they are endangering their lives just to salvage and recover scrolls and books that contain vast knowledge about the Azlanti ruins.

"Actually, I have no idea." the faction leader answers Bella. "It is up to you to find out. Who can say what really is there? Deadly traps? Ferocious monsters? A mild-mannered family of groundhogs? You might be down there for days, or maybe everything has collapsed, and you’ll be back before lunch. As I said, you get to be the first ones inside! Enjoy the anticipation of the unknown and keep your senses peeled!” she exclaims excitedly. She agrees with Fran about what they are going to do. "Yes, that is all, actually. Easy, right? Now, if you are ready, you can actually proceed immediately to the ruins. I know you are just excited as me! Good luck!"

The brave agents enter the ruins via the stairs. The once-grand facility is now a mere shadow of its former glory: the marble walls and floors and chipped and stained with mildew from centuries of exposure to the swamp. The ceilings are 12 feet high in the passageways and 20 feet high in the rooms.

Most rooms are empty or have only shattered remnants of the glorious sculptures and artworks stored here in the past. A permanent source of dim light emanates from the various sconces embedded in the walls, although most of them flicker weakly, their ages-old magic nearly spent.

So which first set of rooms would you like to check first? We will do First Two and Go, meaning the first two characters decide on a choice, and we proceed to it. See Map for the currently labeled locations.

Stitch also fires up his wayfinder, not for himself, but more for Meat Wagon, which for some reason has issues navigating in the dark. Stitch fastens the glowing wayfinder on the front of his ride to help light things up. "Curse these narrow hallways, you can tell whoever built this place didn't have too much junk in their trunk. Better not be like this the whole way or we're gonna have a problem." Stitch keeps his loaded pistol in hand.

I've always been a fan of just going in order of what's presented, so my vote is room 1.

They go to the first room and find it empty, except for the statue that they recognize who it is. Going to the next is a low-ceilinged room that is open by a wide but short arched passageway. Carved niches in the walls each glow with a gentle lavender luminescence, although the shelves within appear empty.

A wooden trapdoor that covers a pit 20 feet deep opens under Bella's feet! Sharp spikes line the bottom of the pit. Roll a DC 16 Reflex save to Grab an Edge or you will fall and take 10 bludgeoning damage from falling and 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 piercing damage from spikes at the bottom of the pit. If you successfully grab the edge or handhold, you can then Climb up using DC 16 Athletics.

Bella takes a step as the floor creaks. "Hmm."

Stitch hops down off his wagon, hustling over to see what all the commotion is "Damnit Bella not a good time to be screwing around. You'll break your neck, and I can tell ya, getting a new neck ain't cheap!" He looks around quickly to make sure she's alright and nothing is useful here before hopping back up on his wagon in the hallway.

"When you're done running the obstacle course I'll be over checking out room #3 ok?" He's a bit rough, but was obviously concerned, and not overly comfortable showing it.

Thankfully, Bella is ble to grab a hold of the pit's edge as she is about to fall into the deadly trap. Stitch continues by checking the next room to finding nothing the unusual. The group keeps moving to explore the ruins. They find a large room with columns, and looking to their southwest is a chamaber that is empty as well and to their left is an elevated platform. As they approach entrance to their right, they find room inside that long, human-sized niches are cut into the walls of this room. Oval glass protrusions stick out from the walls in a few places and emit a cold, white light, although many of them flicker occasionally. The half-rotted remnants of a door to the west stands mostly off its hinges.

Fran knows no better and remembers that she has seen them somewhere and are just tiny rats carrying flytraps on their backs. She moves aside and gives Bella a nudge with her spell to help with the woman's attacks.

Roark makes his dancing moves to gain Panache, and he successfully does so, after which he draws his weapon and raises his buckler.

Critical Success The target is unaffected; Success The target takes full initial damage but no persistent damage, and the spell ends immediately; Failure The target takes full initial and persistent damage, and the target is sickened 1. If the target recovers from being sickened, the persistent damage ends and the spell ends. Critical Failure As failure, but the target is sickened 2.

Tangle Spores (disease) :
A creature bitten by a <redacted> becomes afflicted by fast-growing spores that swiftly grow into twitching spikes and hideous pallid growths of hairlike fibers. These growths erupt from the bite wound and writhe and wrap around the creature’s limbs. Plant creatures take a –2 circumstance penalty to save against tangle spores; Saving Throw DC 17 Fortitude; Maximum Duration 6 rounds; Stage 1 clumsy 1 (1 round); Stage 2 clumsy 1 and flat-footed (1 round); Stage 3 clumsy 2, flat-footed, and if you attempt a manipulate action, you must succeed at a DC 5 flat check or it’s lost; roll the check after spending the action, but before any effects are applied (1 round).

Sickening Display (one-action) (concentrate, emotion, enchantment, fear, mental, occult, visual) :
The <redacted> presents its awful appearance fully, and creatures in a 10-foot emanation must attempt a DC 17 Will save. Once a creature attempts this save, it’s temporarily immune to further Sickening Displays for 1 minute. Critical Success The creature is unaffected. Success The creature is flat-footed until its next turn. Failure The creature is sickened 1, and is flat-footed for as long as it’s sickened. Critical Failure The creature is sickened 2 and is flat-footed for as long as it’s sickened.
