That'll still require more than one round. It's a heavy crossbow, so loading it takes a full-round action, with the fighter using both hands- meaning no shield. And with only 9 HPs left that's a bit of a pickle :')

Erica looks Nightkit straight in the eyes.

"Maybe attacking was a bad idea after all," she says deadpan, gritting her teeth through the searing pain in her forearms. Because of course the healing wand would stop working right now.

With some difficulty, the fighter unstraps her shield, and grabs her crossbow. "Take cover with me. You can use this to protect your head against that thing's acid," she gestures at her shield. "Something tells me this f@+@er's got some left in him."

Grab crossbow with a move action. I was thinking the shield could be used to provide some additional cover if Nightkit can use both of her hands :)

I was thinking the water was a safer place from the acid - but that 'rip' worries me a bit she replies. If you can shoot it down then I can get on it's back ...

Merida's arrows fly wildly due to the anomaly and get tossed around, missing their target!

Sylvester manages to cast a spell. Three arcane missiles fly towards the dragon and it in quick succession!

Erica moves and draws her crossbow, hoping to shoot the creature from a distance!

Markus quickly draws two shurikens and tosses them at the dragon. But they also must be affected by the anomaly as both miss!

Nightkit attempts to heal up her companion, but the wand refuses to cooperate.

Selfi also shoots an arrow at the dragon. But the anomaly is just screwing with everyone and her shot misses!

The dragon flies to and hovers over the only person to do damage to them - Sylvester! Despite the figments around him, the dragon's attack manages to hit the real Sylvester. 11 damage to Sylvester!

If anyone would like to attempt an Intimidate check and be within 30 feet of this dragon that could be extremely helpful as the dragon could suffer from the shaken condition for a least 1 round. Things are getting pretty desperate here but if my character is able to land a Hideous Laughter spell that would help a lot as it would effectively put him out for 1 to 5 rounds.

Sylvester looks around at his companions for help before deciding on a course of action.

"Whoa, you've proved that you're going to be terrible subjects... all rebellious and such.". The dragon sighs. "Accept my surrender, please.". They'll speak more on their turn, if you guys don't kill them first!

Do you accept the dragon's surrender? Or continue fighting them?

Again, Erica makes eye contact with Nightkit. It just screams "are you f$~!ing kidding me."

Wordlessly, she loads her crossbow and stands up.

"Alright," she replies to the dragon in a voice more self-assured than she is currently feeling. "Just land. And no funny movement, or I shoot you."

Sylvester looks relieved but confused.

"I would love to stop fighting. So please land and explain yourself. I am confused but I believe you. Is this a test or something to see if we would serve you well?"

Sylvester readies a Hideous Laughter spell in case this is simply a clever ruse by a sneaky dragon. The spell will only trigger if the dragon attempts to attack someone.

"Selfi, lower your bow. Please."

Despite being heavily damaged Sylvester is curious about what exactly is going on here. He suspects that this testing of subjects is usual for budding Brine Dragons as they attempt to build up their personal empire.

"Is she trying to cast a spell from that wand?" Selfi asks the dog. While she could show them the proper way to use the wand Selfi didn't really see point. The wand's power would not be enough to save either of them from even one more gout of the dragon's acidic breath.

Selfi lowers her bow, but says nothing, if only for the sake of her fellows trapped on the beach.


"You passed the test." The dragon says with a smile. "I will spare your life, but you must return here with something simple. Nothing fancy. But it will help me make a quick jaunt out for research purposes.". They look around, standing down. "You have free access to the cave now and can examine this anomaly if you wish."

The dragon flies back to the tablet they dropped earlier on and picks it up, eyeing the Pathfinders nervously, realizing that they were close to death.

If you search the cave:
You find an unlocked chest amidst the debris. You find a +1 frost longsword, a potion, 50 ft of spider's silk rope, and 250 in assorted coins.

If you want to examine the anomaly more closely or ask the dragon more about it, feel free to roll a Knowledge (nature) or Knowledge (planes) check. You receive a +5 bonus on the check since you retrieved the captain's log from the Pride of Aspenthar

Sylvester studies the anomaly.

Nightkit passes her wand to Selfi, asking her to heal up Erica with it. Use as many charges as you need to she says

"That was... not how I expected things to go..."

Merida is still confused by the sudden surrender of the dragon, so she keeps an eye on them while the other pathfinders heal up, analyze the anomaly and check out the cave.
When the treasure from the chest is shown, she asks:

"Who is going to wield this nice magic sword? Bobbie would be a good candidate, wouldn't she? I mean... on the other hand I don't have a magic sword yet. But until now I did not need to draw my longsword very often. Usually I succeed at staying out of melee while putting my bow to good use..."

"Did anyone understand what the dragon said? I have no clue what we are expected to do now..."

I have to admit that I cannot make sense of some sentences the dragon said (see quote below). However, English is not my first language, maybe that's why. So please enlighten me, anyone. Thanks!

Ah, a fellow non-Native speaker! :) I guess the dragon wants an item interesting enough for them to do research on it? "To go on a jaunt" means to take a small trip outside, so I think they're kind of bored and wants us to bring them something that'd spark their curiosity.

But maybe I understood that wrong...

"Thanks for healing me," Erica sighs in relief. She quickly inspects her arm, watching as the flesh slowly knits itself back together and the pain of the acid starts subsiding. She's pretty sure it's going to leave scars.

She helps the team searching the cave, and whistles as she sets eyes on the longsword. It's not only very well-crafted, but unnaturally cold to the touch. It makes her miss most of Nightkit's gushing about ropes, and the best way to wear them- that one flies way above her head.

"You can have it if you want," she eventually answers Merida, though with a bit of regret. It really is a nice sword. "A magical weapon is always going to be of some use."

"I think the dragon wants us to bring... Something to satisfy its curiosity," she shakes her head, perplexed. "Whatever. But we don't have much, except... The boat or the journal. And we're going to need both."

"It is so small." says the slight elf looking at the weapon in disappointment.


The dragon overhears them talk. "Yes, yes. Just bring me back a scroll of teleport now that you are my disciplines. Nothing fancy. It will help with my research here. It's the least you can do."

There's a boon on your chronicle that will better describe what you have to do.

They also hand over a bag of gold and sheds a few of their scales. "Use this wealth to recruit new followers and purchase the requested scroll, please."

The potion is a potion of greater magic fang.

Sylvester knows that the anomaly is an entanglement of the Plane of Air and Plane of Water. It will be incredibly hard to close, something he can only dream of doing. Any air or water elementals would likely be empowered by it or drawn into it. Whereas earth and fire elementals would likely be weakened by it.

Thank you very much she says when the dragon hands over the gold and scales. A Scroll of Teleport huh? That seems reasonable. I shall see what I can do.

She then joins Merida in another cave exploration.

"I think we are done here for now. We found out the source of the weather patterns that destroyed our ship. Perhaps it is time to leave?"

Are you willing to shoot another arrow, Merida? If so, we'll go back into initiative.

The dragon then turns to Markus. "Nope. Do not know the Deluged God."

Assuming Merida doesn't start combat again, we'll move on. If she wants combat, we'll ignore this next part.

"Here, I'll help you out". Everyone piles into the boat and the dragon then launches them along their way with a judicious application of hydraulic push. "Come back soon, disciples!"

I'll give Merida a day before moving on.

It seems that the nat 20 on Intimidate was wasted. Bummer...

As her teammates seem to be fine to be called disciples, Merida is not willing to start combat again.

Nothing else of interest in the cave. Some debris that's washed in, but none of it is salvageable. Maybe some cool and unique formations/stalagmites/stalactites too. But nothing magic nor any more hidden chests.

@Merida - Relgar is Sylvester's standard twin. It is part of a personal experiment to see the amount of power creep in the system.

@Markus - I think that the dragon is the deluged god of the grotto. He does fit the description well and we are now all his disciples. :)

We got their Wayfinders. That should be enough. Nightkit replies as she reluctantly tucked the potion back in a belt pouch. She then sighs. I'm going to have to replace my Elixir of Swimming and get new Mage Armour potions too.

She then grinned. Still, this is the first time I got to do a mission just dressed in my swimming clothes. Heh ... would you believe that the first time I had to strip down to retrieve a statue from the bottom of a lake, one of our party members got a nosebleed. Spent the rest of the mission following me around like a love sick puppy.

As the group sails away back towards the Grinning Pixie, a pinpoint on the horizon resolves into the sight of another small boat. As it nears, it brings with it the fragrant scents and bright colors of garlands of flowers. In the boat are several masked figures, unarmed and wearing ceremonial regalia. They seem shocked to see a vessel emerging from the cave, and stare openly. "What was your business in the sacred grotto of our god?" one of them calls. "No one, not even we, may enter!"

Selfi stands to address the newcomers. "We were there speaking with the one called 'Tim Pest Moe Narc'."Selfi says unironically, making awkward 'air quotes' or mutant bunny rabbits with her fingers as Merida did. Apparently it is a gesture used to ward off evil spirits. "Tim Pest is not a god. It is a talking lizard. You can go in or stay out as you wish. It does not even have a foot-long poisonous barb upon its tail, though the lizard's stomach seems to be dangerously upset. Bobbie can tell you." She indicates dark, well-muscled warrior.

Lots of oohs and aahs from the cultists crowd. One of the leaders, an older woman in a simple white dress and a flower necklace, steps up. "We were planning on giving these treasures to our lord and savior. As you are disciples of them, please accept them as a gift to help spread the word!". She excitedly looks around with approving nods of her companions.

The gifts are: a wand of alter winds (CL 4th, 6 charges), a carved marble idol in the shape of a hurricane (worth 150 gp), and a volatile vaporizer (2nd level).

You can also attempt a DC 22 Diplomacy check to convince these cultists to consider an alliance with either the Pathfinder Society or the Concordance of Elements.

Sylvester thanks the crowd and ensures them that the gifts will be put to good use. While the tiny gnome is less skilled at telling the truth then spinning a yarn he pushes his luck and attempts to convince the cultists to consider an alliance with the Pathfinder Society.

"I hear that the Pathfinder Society might be helpful in spreading the word. Their organisation spreads throughout the Inner Sea. An alliance might be a good idea."

He looks to the party to attempt to back up his claims.
