Realizing that he can't defend against the boogers like he would most creatures, Ghul waits for confirmation from Merian to fall back. In the meantime, Unifax rears up and brings his hooves down hard on the nearby goopy booger and destroys a small section of it; the eidolon doesn't feel that any of his stamping was resisted.
Ghul's azarketi companion confirms the plan even as she hauls off and stabs hard at Blue, her trident sinking into the creature's mass and leaving tiny crystals in its wake...just before Blue shatters! The half-iced, half-gooey mass slops over the ground and dissipates.
Merian notices that while it seemed to resist some of the trident's sharpness, the added cold and force damage all appeared to take effect. She falls back as quick as she can.
With the plan confirmed, Ghul and Unifax also fall back, determined to keep Red and Orange at bay and whittle them down from a distance.

Cheered that one of the boogers has been taken care of, Thriss'k steps up a tiny bit and flings another orb of fire at Red. Even though he's got to aim through his allies to throw it, the orb still easily connects and burns away a chunk of Red's oozy mass!
Rawiri attempts to draw the attention of Red by jumping around and generally making a lot ground vibrations...and against all odds, Red begins to weeble and wobble in time with the dwarf's movements!
Critical success! Rawiri gains a point of panace *and* Red is fascinated for 1 round or until someone breaks it...which, we're in the middle of combat so yeah :V

Unifax, not stupid in the least, dashes up to Red and clobbers the booger again with angry hooves before falling back once more! Ghul opts to remain where he is, holding the line.
Thriss'k chucks another orb of fire at Red, burning away more and more of the creature's mass in the process. As he falls back, he wonders aloud if he should feel any sympathy for the boogers, given their slow speed.
From his position behind the front line Rawiri flings the darts in his hands at Red! The first one connects solidly but doesn't seem to do any damage at all, while the second throw harmlessly *tinks* off the nearby wall. Undaunted, he draws out another dart.
Content to continue flinging fire as well, Smell of the Pines waits for Resinosa to move before chucking another orb at Red...and finally finishes burning the booger to nothing but a pile of ash and goo!
And Orange, unaware of its position as a sitting duck, continues to mindlessly ooze forward...

Ghul offers another point of view for Thriss'k to consider as he remains firm and Unifax darts forward to deliver another hoof-beating to the remaining booger. He stamps and pummels, squishing a small part of the gooey creature into paste before retreating back once more.
Seeing that her previous spell did seem to have some effect on the other booger, Merian directs another sticky vine at Orange. She just manages to tag the creature and sticky sap seems to slow the booger's movements to practically nothing at all!
Realizing that his darts aren't doing much, Rawiri tries a similar approach as Unifax; he darts forward, bashes Orange with his clan dagger, and then quickly falls back again. And it looks like this time, his strike had some effect as another chunk of goo gets splattered into paste!

Having found a solid plan, the group continues to stick with it. Ghul holds his ground while Unifax does another stomp-and-dash attack with his hooves. Merian makes sure to keep holding the lone booger in place with her sticky, entangling vine and then Thriss'k finally finishes it off for good with one last barrage of flame!
Combat Over!
With the threat of the boogers now taken care of, you can better inspect the chamber ahead. Long, human-sized niches are cut into the walls of this room. Oval glass protrusions stick out from the walls in a few places and emit a cold, white light, although many of them flicker occasionally and one of them is even broken. Within the broken protrusion you can see, mounted on the wall, a torch that still seems to be burning, somehow.
Other than the burning torch and remnants of slime from the strange boogers, the chamber seems to be empty. A passageway continues out of the chamber to the north.

Ghul looks towards the human-sized niches that are cut into the walls like a man longing for his bedsheets. I could use a rest, weary am I... his mind wandering a little at the strangeness of the room.
When his party is ready, he heads with them north through the chamber passage, shield first, with Unifax taking up the rear.

![]() |

Merian offers Ghul a high five. "Maybe if science doesn't work out, I can join the military."
Merian will also take a look around, although she's not the most perceptive. She'll also use detect magic to investigate the area, including the torches.
Perception +3

![]() |

Relieved no ooze will not eat it or its teammate, the leshy starts looking at his companion, in case someone needs attention. He agrees with the assessment telling that “That was indeed a good plan, Merian.”
As it sees its companions making sure they did not miss anything, it also gives a look around.

Thriss'k's Perception (E): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Rawiri's Perception (T): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
As it turns out, Merian's instinct to scan this chamber for magical auras pays off. The one burning torch you can see and reach through the broken glass protrusion gives off a warm, magical glow. Merian can also sense similar glows coming from behind each of the unbroken glass protrusions.
It's an Everburning Torch.
Once everyone is ready, you press on to the north, eager to hopefully finish your task here soon. After passing by another dead-end collapsed stairwell and through an empty, rubble-strewn chamber the passage turns back to the west and opens up into another large, lengthy chamber.
A few large tables stand throughout the room, their polished surfaces gleaming. The walls are unadorned and clean, as if scoured regularly. A giant-sized smiling face of a human man with a receding hairline is carved into the northern wall. Beneath this image is a metal plate that has several levers and buttons.
As you begin nosing around, your attention keeps drifting to the carved face in the northern wall. Something about it makes your scales prickle and then your shaman training kicks in; you've heard tales of places and objects infused with the echoes of events past and suspect that some such echo must linger around the carving.
And sometimes, these echoes can be dangerous.

Further into the ruin, Thriss'k's tail starts to swish without him noticing. He then takes a long look at the face on the wall, and a shiver runs down his spine.
"Something about that face puts me off. It's like it's alive, somehow. Or... I don't know, it's significant, in some way. Stay away from those levers until we know why."

Thriss'k voices a strange uneasiness about the carving on the northern wall, which gets everyone's attention. Merian stares hard at the gears and levers and all around the room and she thinks that this might be some sort of 'cleaning' chamber, with the levers designed to spray various chemicals into the room. While Rawiri, Smell of the Pines, and Merian hold their positions the iruxi moves a few steps closer; Ghul also steps forward, determined to keep his ally safe.
As the pair move closer to the carving a couple of things happen almost simultaneously. The most notable is that a cheerful, wordless tune begins to play! It's a strange but as you listen, you almost feel as though you ought to get to work - but get to work on what, you don't know.
At about this same time Thriss'k realizes that you're dealing with a unique sort of hazard known as a haunt! Most often haunts are formed when the spiritual essence of a location is imprinted with the instincts and emotions from a living being’s demise, but the iruxi also knows that strongly negative emotions can linger and coalesce into a haunting without a death or deaths being involved.
