Melissa is saying don't let them board at all. Its a no win option when both running or fighting are "I win button" options.

"Guess? I know this is a new concept, but the law and truth are both on our side. They're at war with the planet below us AND they shot us first with no warning. We can't fake better circumstances for shooting them. "

She points at her screen. Then alt tabs off of farmville to the scanner output. THEN points at her screen "I can tell you from this we'll blow them out of the sky or can run away without getting winded. I CAN"T tell you from this if we'll blow them out of our airlock. He could have 4 conscripts fresh out of H.G. Boyscout camp or 30 Praetorian guards that have been killing longer than I've been alive. We won't know until its too late."

A single, green-stained tear rolls down Strek's cheek.

Alright! We've got Guess?'s vote for inviting them in and fighting, and Melissa's vote split between running or shooting it out. Anybody else?

"Melissa has a good point. We know their ships are weak, but we don't know if their crews are too. With our luck, they have a dozen pet splatterbeasts on each ship that love to eat freshly installed jet boosters. Let's not take that risk. We should send our evidence that these guys are hostile hob gobs to Marixah air control and then start shooting." Akh grips the turret controls, ready to deliver a volley of lasers.

"Welp, if we don't want to bait them in and ambush them, then let's just cut loose and run since they can't catch us. We'll probably get a black mark with the GA and not be allowed back into their space, but it'd be more expedient than getting into a shooting battle."

Guess? was thinking if we went the boarding party ambush route, there may be a way to play the situation to preserve the company's reputation with the GA as well as improving relations with the Republic. Guess? doesn't like the GA but would prefer to continue having the option to continue doing business in GA-controlled space. However, if the crew views the onboard ambush as too high risk, then Guess? will vote for just running . This is because both running and starship combat will drop the company's rep with GA but running will be lower risk than combat.

With a push of the throttle, and a touch of slurm injector fuel, you fly off into space. For a few moments lasers pelt your rear shields, but they're nothing Melissa and Strek can't handle. The public comms continue to blare with an increasingly desperate officer. "THE NAVY IS ON THERE WAY NOW. YOU ARE ABOUT TO BE APPREHENDED BY THE FULL FORCE OF THE MARIXAH NAVY. POWER DOWN AND SUBMIT YOURSELVES TO JUSTICE." The Gideron Authority ships continue to chase you down, slowly falling behind, while broadcasting on the public channel. "Settle down, mud-dwellers! Your lackluster defenses have nothing on the rightful owners of this planet."

After a minute of hard flying, you get enough distance that you can pop into the Drift. Just as your surroundings meld into the pink and purple fluffy clouds of the between-space, you see the other three ships give up chase and wind up their Drift engines. It seems the Marixah Republic needs to work on their defensive forces, as everyone is getting away clean today.

You spend a day in the Drift, cooling off from that surprise encounter. Then, next thing you know, you're waking up to the calming sight of Absalom Station. You obtain landing rights and get onto the Station uneventfully. You make it onto the station safely! Do you have anything personal or business you want to do before dropping off the artifacts at the professor's loading dock?

Guess? will do some research into professor Xan, trying to determine if there is any possible angle with trying to extract some money out of him - be it selling an object of desire, certain services, brokering information, impersonating a representative from a well known academic journal, etc.

-----

Aside from that, Guess? will visit his tribe to get the latest updates on their current status and what gang wars are currently going on or potentially brewing. He'll keep an eye out in particular for any tribe members who exhibit above average intelligence and a desire to improve their lot in life. Guess? mulls over potential ideas for uplifting the socioeconomic status of his tribe and perhaps Absalom goblins in general.

-----

And as usual, Guess? will look for other side jobs, but perhaps that should wait until after the current delivery and checking in with Tarika.

"Woooo!" Del shrieks in glee as she easily outruns the Gideron ships, leaving them in her space dust as she flies off into the Drift.

When they arrive in Absalom station, Del happily gathers everyone to pose in from of their starship. But when it comes time to leave, she grows nervous and decides to stay with the ship. She didn't trust that one of their enemies wouldn't be able to mess with her baby.

Instead, makes herself a cup of tea, then double triple checks that everything's locked up tight and the systems are all operating as they should. Then she prepares to help the others unload.

Jaraduk sighs as they pop into the drift (before finally returning).

Back on Absalom station Jaraduk doesn't have a lot of serious business to attend to. For now his past remains hidden behind him and while it looks hectic on the surface, it turns out to be a peaceful place for him to hide.

Tarika is at the top of his mind.

The nuar goes to visit her as soon as possible waiting for Guess? and others to come along as it makes sense to involve as much of the party as possible.

Akh restocks on snacks and looks up information on Rygan. Last he heard the shady necrograft dealer was under fire from the Adamant Scale people. He figures he should give the guy a heads up that the heat is off, and maybe ask for some upgraded taste buds in the process.

Well, if the HGs take it over you wouldn't want to visit there for a while. But if Miraxah keeps it they'll welcome us back. Any enemy of the HGs is a friend of theirs. I'm a little more worried about how they're covering up the riot, but with the HGs and Scale both trying to kill us evidence for my meme continues to accrue at an alarming rate.

The group, minus Del for the moment, heads to the professor's office after classes end for the day. Guess?'s research shows that the "doctor" has some negative ratings on RateMyArcheologist.com, saying that he is grumpy and stiff. Seems like he won't be one to be giving out extra credits. Best case scenario, perhaps he won't give you an F in his class. You make the drop easily, handing over the box and the security towers without drama. The older professor doesn't talk much, mostly just harrumphing about the dings on the boxes and the lack of vacuum sealing on the packaging. "Alright, I'll let Verran know you showed up with the goods. They better be new support for the cause. Otherwise we'll all have wasted our time here." You head back to the Last Chance, ready to wait two to eight business days for your payment to float its way through the Drift.

After picking up Del, and installing some new and much needed technical security to your one-of-a-kind actively-trying-to-be-stolen-literally-every-other-week starship, you head off to see what Tarika's new job and favor is. Love the idea of sending Del's sister a status report! It's both nice, and so cheeky. On the way, you pass through an intersection crowded with working-class establishments: a pawn shop and payday lender, the 1 Credit Store (where everything costs only 1 credit!!!!), a locksmith, and the Noodles Between, a popular eating establishment run by sarcesians. There is a line of customers in front of a window for ordering, and behind a bar are a sarcesian and kasatha duo hidden by steam as they relentlessly cook noodles, vegetables, and rice in this kitchen to fill an unending list of orders. Del, eager to try the Sarcesian-Kasathan fusion, pauses the group and gets in line. Seeing a marshmallow flavored dessert on the menu, Akh jumps in right behind her.

Perception Rolls:

Jaraduk: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Guess?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Akh: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Del: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Strek: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
Melissa: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

But suddenly... Strek's skin begins to crawl. He realizes the well-equipped and muscular vesk woman eating a bowl of noodles at the table nearest the intersection looks incredibly similar to a vesk he saw a few minutes ago. Turning slightly, he sees the previous vesk walking a few dozen feet behind the group and blending into the crowded street. Both bear massive, striking tattoos—the black ink accents their natural scale coloration to create images of exciting battle scenes and roaring defrexes. They’re each heavily augmented; their eye, throat, and scales have been partially replaced with shining metal enhancements that were intentionally left visible. Strek is confident this vesk has been tailing your group since you left the ship hanger. He relays this to the group over comms.

"Well, may as well attempt some intel."

Strek hugs the wall, pretending to play Settlers of Nakondis on his comm unit, and attempts to wirelessly hack into the red-shirt Vesk's comm unit and gather their last communication log.

Wireless Hack & Remote Hack:
On any round you don’t use combat tracking, your exocortex can access another computer system within 20 feet, allowing it to attempt a Computers check against that computer each round, using your skill bonus. This counts as a standard action for the purpose of the Computers skill. You must remain within 20 feet of the computer system for the entire time your exocortex is interacting with the computer. If the task requires multiple actions (or even rounds) to accomplish, you can spend your actions to work in concert with your exocortex, counting both your action and the exocortex’s effective standard action toward the total time required. If you don’t have the remote hack class feature, you must be adjacent to the computer to attempt your checks.

You can use your custom rig to attempt Computers and Engineering skill checks at a range of 20 feet. At 7th level and every 2 levels thereafter, this range increases by 10 feet. A target of this ability (or a creature attending or observing your target) can attempt a Perception or Sense Motive check (DC = 10 + 1-1/2 × your mechanic level + your Intelligence modifier) to determine that you are the origin of this activity.

Akh is in the middle of eating a 30ft long giant novelty noodle made of marshmallow, winding it around his prehensile tongue, when the vesk show up to ruin his enjoyment of the bizarre treat. He spends a few long moments eyeing the vesk while ominously winding the marshmallow noodle around his tongue.

His mouth is still full when he comments "Leffs lead them somewhere we can talk. Without so many people."

"Okay, assuming they don't start shooting at Strek, we can walk towards the closest police station - and then confront these vesk. If shooting starts, perhaps the cops will be on our side..."

Guess? walks over to Strek and pretends to talk to Strek, trying to make it appear as though Strek is not doing anything out of the ordinary. Guess? is trying to make it harder to spot Strek as the source of the hack.

After deciding the answer to her problem is to buy ALL three noodle dishes that caught her eye, Del pays for her tasty meal, gets it in a to-go bag, and turns to the others. "Huh? What are we staring at? Am I about to regret leaving the ship again?"

She looks around, trying and failing not to draw attention to herself, then follows her friends with a shrug. "Looks like we're out of luck again," she tells Jaraduk. "Shame. I would've liked to eat in. I hope my noodles don't get too cold."

Perception, DC 20: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 durn it. Thanks for sharing the rules. Great usage of Remote Hack.

Strek captures the vesk's most recent message log, a group message. "Xun, your loyalty to House Hafrigek shall be rewarded. Our Golden League contact off station wants this crew dead. They're just some traders who stole the wrong shipment. Attached are their photos, our contacts at the docks say they'll land at Bay 739 in one hour. Follow them. Take care of it." The response is short. "Sighted. Hail Hafrigek."

Half the group sets their to-go boxes on the counter and move down the hallway while Guess? distracts from Strek's hard work. The vesk woman stands up and slowly follows you down the alleyway. Almost as you round the corner, you see the second vesk peek their head past the ordering counter. "Ah skag. They know. Kill 'em."

Initiative Rolls:

Foes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Jaraduk: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Guess?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Strek: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Melissa: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Even as the two Golden League assassins reach for their weapons, Akh and Jaraduk are faster! Round 1, Akh and Jaraduk are up!

I think the results of Strek's hack might let us know what we're dealing with, but also:

Akh ponders the tattoos and outfits the vesk are kitted out in and tries to recall if he knows them as some organized group. DC -5 if they're part of a criminal underworld.

In combat:
Akh hears the 'kill them' order and springs off his chair, novelty noodle still trailing from his mouth. His thruster jets flare up and help him fly with ease across the intervening distance. He draws his taclash as he goes. (If possible depending on the height of the room, he'll end his movement 10ft above the ground and out of retaliatory melee range.)

Once there, he swings down with the lash to sweep the blue vesk off their feet.

Jaraduk sighs loudly and sets his noodles down.

Grenades are fun, but I have respect for noodles. A good old-fashioned thrashing it is...

Jaraduk approaches the vesk Akh had passed, drawing his new crackling electrical doshko as he went.

Akh, I'll give you another +5 for your particular background...

Akh recognizes the ritualistic tattoos as marks of the Golden League's Xun assassins. He also knows that the Golden League’s Hafrigek family operates out of the Spike and locally represents the syndicate on Absalom Station. It seems another Golden League family wants you dead and called in a favor to do so...

Let's say ceilings in the wide corridor, where you are, are 20 feet high while the smaller corridor is 10 feet. So Akh can be out of range in the air.

Akh flies forward, barely managing to knock the vesk assassin off her feet to the floor. She pops to her feet and aims her weapon up in the air to fire into the android's feet, opening up her defenses at the same time. Triggers AoO!

A third vesk warrior rounds the corner, from the street direction you were heading in before you stopped at the noodle restaurant, and fires a blast of electricity right at the weak point at Akh's neck!

Jaraduk is a little less coordinated, perhaps upset by the smell of those noodles he's not able to eat right now. His warrior sneers and responds, "Fight, cow! Do not allow your last moments to be ones of poor combat!" The vesk dives under Jaraduk's axe, avoiding his follow-up attack (no AoO) and fires over her shoulder into the nuar's exposed back as she runs towards the rest of the group.

Melissa's new living weapon is more powerful than expected, shocking the foul-mouthed vesk. Jaraduk runs after the offender, but his heart was hurt more by the sharp word than he let on and his weapon slides across the Xun's heavy armor plating. Strek makes use of the distraction, sending flames across the vesk's tattooed and exposed face. Guess? activates the experimental necrograft augmentation that Rygan Zuul gave him so long ago and melts into the shadows to reappear 15 feet away.

Guess? Confusion Rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 31

In Guess?'s mind, he sees himself firing a flaming bolt of energy into the chest of the inflammatory assassin. In reality, the goblin stands there slackjawed with drool dripping down his unrecognizable face.

Medicine or Life Science, DC 23:

You'll have to confirm in a real lab, but you're guessing that the experimental necrograft has some negative side effect: addling the mind for a short period of time after it's use. Congrats! Guess? got a free super charged Shadow Nerve... that Confuses the user for 1d4 rounds after use. It won't be that difficult to remove the necrograft if Guess? wishes, utilizing a medkit, medical lab, or medical bay on a starship. The operation isn't without risks, and could infect Guess? with the Devil Chills disease if the procedure went poorly and accidentally destroyed the undead organ in the process of removal.

The vesk under the group's fire, near Jaraduk, bends to avoid another swipe of the doshko (No AoO) and heads into the midst of the squishier part of the group. Her offhand knife threatens Strek, Melissa, and Del far more than the poorly aimed shot behind her back at Jaraduk. She grins through sharpened teeth. "You're mine now, weaklings."

The vesk in the back of the group weaves a bit closer to the melee through the crowd, sending a well aimed shot into Akh's shoulder blades as he hovers near the ceiling. "Your augmentations are clearly intended for flash. The background report was clearly wrong."
