Definitely no worries. If your pre-winter-break weeks are anything like mine, everything is crazy right now.

Narrative now, rolling when the teams combine into one party was the plan. You can't really 'break' anything as long as you're reasonable. I mean narratively killing the entire syndicate is fine if that's what you want to be part of your prologue.
If its getting boring though, we can start rolling. I don't mind setting DCs and such. If so just describe what you are attempting and roll.

Lucian: Syrina and the others can be a distraction while you sneak in to find the boys or you can join in shrinking the numbers. Or something else entirely. I tried to leave options open and not lock you into anything.

Astrid Morchella |

You can run into Astrid at some point, too - she's on the other side of the market!

I'm teaching two different novels in two different preps, right before winter break...and the emotional whiplash is wild. ONe is Night, the Holocaust memoir by Elie Wiesel, and the other is The Hobbit. Real weird to go from Holocaust imagery to hobbits throughout the day.
Plus, I ran out of my ADHD medication...it's taking forever to get refilled.
I am also looking forward to the weekend. <3

Guys, I was watching Critical Role tonight (instead of posting) and Mercer granted a PC legendary actions (for extreme RP reasons). I thought that was a super cool boon! Have you guys ever had a DM do that, or done it as a DM? I've never thought of that...might try it sometime. Thoughts?
Legendary actions are 3 actions (per round) you take at the end of any enemy's turn. Sometimes they are 'extra cool' and cost 2 legendary actions, for example the Bolter's glue stick attack. They regenerate every round.
I've just never thought to grant that, as a 'buff'. :) Neat idea? Like maybe your story is climaxing, and its your time to shine. You gain legendary actions (instead of just Inspiration).
edit: which also begs the question, what would be your character's unique Legendary Action that costs 2? O_o

Astrid Morchella |

No worries. <3 You are doing so much with all of this. I'm impressed by your DM stamina, haha.

It is similar to Colville's Kingdoms & Warfare Group stuff. I could see giving the group Legendary actions. That way, as a group we can call for one player to take an action and maybe the 2 cost ones are like a Teamwork attack?

Reminds me of limit breaks in FFXIV. Can come in clutch during a big fight. I think it is really neat. Definitely something to look into. I love me some Mercer.

I will get a post up later today! My mom has not been taking good care of herself since my dad died, so my sister and I are going over to clean the house for her. It'll take a few hours.

Astrid Morchella |

"Okay" is about as good as it gets. But it's getting better. I appreciate the thoughts. <3

Heading inside Lucian observes the surroundings. How many were in here, where were the stairs. If he could find the route up, would Harkina's boys still be here.
Lucian, can I chat you a bit about this? This is your prologue for the character, how would you like it to conclude? The guard of Elturel awakens and immediately starts saving citizens (boys alive, rescue success). He finds them dead and fails (boys dead)? Something in between?
What would be the most compelling story, which might give you the most meat to work with as the character begins the game? If you leave it up to me, I would likely have them be dead. But I want this part to also be your story.
@Astrid, sort of same question. We've been jumping from task to task, are any of them having an effect on the character? What is a satisfying overall conclusion for this bit?
Not asking because I have writer's block. Nope, certainly not that. >_>

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

So, in my mind, Astrid has been surviving in hell alone, cut off from the rest of the colony that had given her life again back on the regular material plane. All she has are the spores that live within her, and while that's great, she is very community-oriented. So, finding this group within the printing area has given her more of a purpose beyond just "Find out about The Companion" - it's given her the chance to plug back into a community. So, to me, rescuing the kid (or failing to, because we're in hell and all) is another way that she hopes to gain favor so she doesn't have to be alone anymore.
Mercy killing the guy before really affected her - more than killing anyone for self-defense. It reminded her of her own humanity (half-elvenity rofl I don't know).
I think a satisfying overall conclusion would be her finding some kind of community with a group. I don't think it needs to be a happy ending, but I think SOME kind of community would help, especially if it's a way for Astrid to meet up with the other two.
Does that help? We can chat more if you want.
No shame in asking for input, GM. I do it with my players a lot. We're writing a collaborative story together. <3 I have been having some block myself.

I'm fine with finding the boys dead, likely even undead. This is relatively early in the adventure, and we are in Hell...so happy endings and hope I would think would be in rather short supply. Frankly, having a setback of sorts would likely drive Lucian further than a successful mission here.
I'm no stranger to dark characters with dark stories, so no worries on that front.

Out of sequence but I did mention it earlier.
2 x Potions of healing (Berry flavoured) = 100gp

Oh ! I kept wanting to ask - did we get any extra money after arriving in Candlekeep? I forgot, alas.

Astrid Morchella |

Hey DM! No worries or pressure about me. I'm sure you know how wild the days before winter break are...I have a stack of papers literally three inches high to grade, and that's not counting the three assignments on Google Classroom I have to deal with either.

Syrina du Shay |

No worries on my end. It's also been a bit busy as everyone pushes to get things done before holiday break.
Storywise, I kind of left things at a natural break point and am happy to work around to connect with Astrid if that makes things easier.

Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |

Incidentally Im fresh outta inspiration. Did I earn any with the battle Bros stuff etc?

Simon Eltan |

Thank you for explaining about the money. Of course I took the ring, it's much more interesting.

Astrid Morchella |

Sorry for the wait! I will get something up tomorrow, my brain is broken after today.

Astrid Morchella |

Sorry I didn't post yesterday. Super long day at work and then I had IRL Pathfinder. Getting something up shortly!

Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |

Up to go, that said, it is THE season.
I imagine we will have a few delays from players and DM alike until early Jan.

Astrid Morchella |

I have no real major plans aside from the Solstice. My family and I are keeping vigil. Other than that, I will be a posting madwoman until the new year!
I have been in a bit of a creative rut all around with all of my games the past few days because I'm a little burnt out as the winter break approaches for me. :P
I have about 40 study guides to grade, 60 writing assignments, and about 120 quizzes.
