Sorry I missed the bus on my questions but shoot me a PM on information on candlekeep and I'll write it into a flashback or similar and share it with the group
You didn't miss the bus. I'm always fine jumping around in time.
As I'm sure you know, its a big topic, lots of interesting stuff. I might just point you to the Faerun wiki entry for it and ask what elements you'd like to see brought into play.
One possible conflict for a cleric of Kelemvor is of course their preservation of knowledge regarding necromantic arts. Doomguides routinely destroy any writing detailing the creation of the undead.

Guys, the One playtest for the next big rules update has created a new 'Study' action for things like 3.0 style knowledge checks. I'm not ready to make such things an action just yet, but I do like the breakdown for monster types>skill associations and will be using it going forward (in campaign tab for future reference).
Arcana: Aberrations, Constructs, Elementals, Fey, Monstrosities
History: Giants and Humanoids
Nature: Beasts, Dragons, Oozes, Plants
Religion: Celestials, Fiends, Undead
Donal the Seeker |
I have been following it pretty closely too. I like the changes to guidance and barkskin as well as many of the feat changes, namely Durable... (allowing non-fighters to get a Second Wind-type mechanic, burning a HD in combat is pretty cool!)
I like the breakdown and maybe you can put it in the Campaign tab so we can reference, instead of digging through the Discussion thread? I find that trying to find pertinent stuff in threads is a huge pain, but the Campaign tab is easily accessible at all times.
Btw, I like what they are doing with the Class groupings too...
Donal the Seeker |
I hope that they are going to remove all the esoteric stuff from the base monk and make those archetypes, so that we can have a good old pugilist build that is not tied to Wisdom, but rather (like the Iron Shirt technique) Con or something like that. Tying everything to Wisdom really makes the monk a kind of one-dimensional class in my mind.
In fact, I would remove any terminology of monk and replace it with something more neutral. Monk in European fantasy should have always been more like Benedictine monks, masters of learning. While I am not sold on Pugilist, I think that with some brainstorming, other more appropriate names can be discovered.

It's my RL game tonight. Will post tomorrow. Or bot me a Shatter

On the One playtest, I'm curious why they dropped the light obscurement part of the Skulker feat. That was always my favorite part. The replacement is very powerful indeed, but I think I'll miss being able to hide in any light obscurement. Maybe something else will replace that.
Stealth in general seems to have some interesting changes...eager to play with it at some point.

Although I remember recently looking at the possibility of increasing the blast range to 300 feet and thinking "this is very situational." And for the second time in a row... (first the fleeing cambion, now the ballista).
Yep, not so useful in dungeons but wilderness (especially wide open grasslands like this) its more useful. Moving forward we will be retaining a mix of both (hellish wide open wilderness with dungeons scattered about).
GM Infinity |
So yeah, after a clear head this morning and chatting on rules forum I definitely goofed with Shatter being inside. But no worries, we can continue with that ruling for the rest of this fight.
In the future though, walls or any obstruction will block the 'clear path' requirement from the general spell rules.
"Mal" Malaric |
Me too. Shatter only has a 60 foot range.
Feel free to bot me running and diving for cover a couple more rounds to get within range
GM Infinity |
Have you guys played with Stable Diffusion? Its the artificial intelligence that takes user text and turns it into images; the images don't exist on the internet but are unique creations. Usually the results are zany and off the wall hilarious (especially faces omg) but once in a while it turns out something incredibly awesome.
Try inputting some one-liners from your games if you feel like rofl-ing or want some inspiration. XD

Hi team
Heads up. I've a biz trip leaving early Monday morning and returning late Friday with no time to post during the trip.
cheers
GM Infinity |
So, apologies, another blunder on my part. Misread the monster ability...Reya and Donal did not need to make the save during Round 1. It occurs at the top of your turn if within 30 ft, and able to see each other.
If Donal wants to carry his roll result to round 2 that is fine with me.
Simon Eltan |
> Simon, I could be mistsaken but I think the talisman is checks, not saves anyways.
You are absolutely right, it's for ability checks only.
I just can't figure out in 5e what is an ability check and what is not. And I noticed that even experienced players sometimes argue on this topic ))
GM Infinity |

Yeah, common misunderstanding no worries. Checks are skills, initiative, or raw ability (strength, con, etc). Doesn't help previous versions treated this differently.
Saving throws are not ability checks in 5e, nor are attack rolls.
Compare the spells Guidance and Bless.
I try to always be clear and say 'roll Con save' instead of just 'roll Con'.
Simon Eltan |
GM Infinity, thanks for clarifications. It helps .)
Hmmm... What other class should I try? What new ally would you like to find in the fortress (after you break the statue, huh)? ))) I/m just kidding. But I'll take it lightly if anything. Why such games that you can't lose?
GM Infinity |
Simon, you have a strong character. Mechanically I wouldn't change anything.
I should probably be more transparent. This Coast Way trip was really just a nostalgic thing for me, nostalgia for the video game Baldur's Gate. Other than the cambion encounter, it isn't part of the published adventure but it was something I was looking forward to for a long time. So, as a GM Infinity created thing, the difficulty was a bit higher than under the Villa, say.
I wanted to push you guys to get a feel for your power level having reached tier 2. I also hadn't ran a Legendary on pbp and couldn't really remember what was up with that. I think I've only ran a handful of legendaries in the 5ish years I've been pbp-ing 5e, but I want to use them more.
With the published encounters, they make you guys feel challenged but behind the scenes they are really sort of a joke to be honest. From behind the DM screen the situation often appears very different, even when players are biting their nails I can be yawning and eye-rolling. The party has never been anywhere even close to a TPK the entire first act in BG...except maybe the first devil encounter. And even then, that was because you basically ran the Villa backwards with the success of managing/turning Amrik...allowing you to skip right to the end before getting another level as the module expected.
I want you guys to be challenged and make every attempt I can to drain your resources before tough fights, leaving it to the dice whether or not that actually happens as much as possible. I don't want to be unfair.
I mean, I still make mistakes quite often with rules and such. I'm not a rules master (usually too drunk for that designation) but neither do I like being loose with the rules. Always call me out if something seems weird. I'm just a dude playing a game for fun.
Simon Eltan |
> nostalgia for the video game Baldur's Gate
Oh yeah. I spent 1.5 years playing EE version of this game again. I haven't touched any other PC games at all. All 2.5 parts are brilliant!
Thank you and the publishers of 5e for the opportunity to return there.

Hey! (you may have read this message in other shared games) I will be on a trip next week with three possible options: I will post as usual, 1 time a day; I will not be able to post until Thursday; I will not be able to post all week and will return to the gameplay in 7-8 days. In any case, feel completely free to bot me if needed. Cheers!
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
I have a medical emergency in the family so I'm gonna need a day or two.
Donal the Seeker |
I dunno. To Donal, the others are tools to take down evil. I like to think that he feels that he can determine how best to use anyone toward those aims. As a player, I don't enjoy playing alongside irredeemably evil characters...
Simon Eltan |
Any characters who are willing to cooperate with the current party and will not play against it. I mean, for example, completely insane chaotics or lawful-stupid paladins. The rest doesn't seem so important to me.
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
Agreed with both Donal and Simon. Also no Batman or Wolverine broody characters... you'll know what I mean.
Another arcanist is always useful but I am easy going.
GM Infinity |
Alright, thanks guys for feedback. I certainly agree, but spoilers alert the hellish Mad-Max wasteland is a bit of a wilderness expanse and something like a druid/ranger might be a boon. On the other hand, conflict/hardship is exciting and often makes for a better game experience.
Donal the Seeker |
While conflict is exciting, they don't help us at all if they are going to run off on their own all the time. ;) I think conflict galore will come of Simon's contract... :p

I hope Mal is not too irredeemably evil for you, Aesh.
We're pretty well-rounded as a team.

No worries. Like I said, Donal is no peach himself. He just needs to see that you are willing to work together. Think Dirty Dozen, where we are all the misfits, but with Donal's direction, you are given direction toward the ultimate goal. Donal understands that you all have your own motivations, and is willing to feed those, if it keeps you in line. ;)
GM Infinity |
Looking like a gloom stalker ranger, spore druid, and one more will be joining us soon. :) Players should be some familiar faces for you guys.
I'm going to try avoiding a sharp time jump to get you together, and play with the new characters a tad in something like a session zero in spoilers while we continue in Candlekeep. Eventually you'll all be together.
Astrid Morchella |
*waves* Heya! I'm the spore druid. Working on my alias still. Nice to meetcha.
Astrid Morchella |
Ohh, I've only listened to and watched Campaign 2 of Critical Role. I know the grave cleric in C2 uses the mushroom/fungus/mold motif a lot, which was admittedly some of my inspiration for using this circle. I like occultish stuff.
Plus, I've got a friend who played one and it seemed pretty cool. I like the whole vibe of it all. I usually play clerics or fighters, so I'm trying to branch out a little bit. :D
A little about me:
You can call me Fey or just by my character name, I don't really care--I teach high school English with a focus in creative writing (imagine that?), so play-by-post is my bread and butter. Please don't stress about your spelling/grammar or any such thing, I am not paid to care about your mistakes (Gods know I make plenty of my own...as long as the meaning is clear, typos gonna happen). Ah, I'm a lady, too - pronouns are she/her/hers.
I have only been around for a little over a year, but I love this stuff so, so much. I play PF1E, PF2E (run a PF2E game on the boards right now, going to run Kingmaker for a bunch of friends when it's over), and I'm in a few 5e D&D games, too. I'm just hungry for the roleplay.
I am a frequent poster, able to go a couple of times a day throughout the whole day. I'll just match y'all's energy with that one. Looking forward to playing with you all! <3
Lucian Faucon |
Hello to all.
I'm the aforementioned Gloom Stalker Ranger. Like Astrid, my profile/mechanics are still a work in progress.
Guess I'll steal Astrid's format here:
For the purposes of this game, refer to me as either Lucian or my board alias, Talomyr. In real life I'm a senior manager/engineer for a large biopharma company. Being an engineer, I will have more than my fair share of grammatical faux paus, but I can usually get my point across.
I've been playing D&D (and lots of other RPGs) since the Basic/1st ed AD&D days and have been an active player and game master on the Paizo boards for roughly 12 years now.
Posting daily shouldn't be an issue for me and often more than once should RP or the game require it. Looking forward to joining the game. (Thanks to GM Infinity for the invite!)
