Medicine to aid another: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
“Dusty” Rhodes
|
Computers: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
Automatic aid another on Medicine.
Dusty pulls out their person comms and pokes around. "...yuck. These look like our guys, though. Look at all this Lorespire stuff. Their boss also sent them complimentary fruit baskets. Typical Datch."
Moxie Moon
|
"Alright, let's secure this data. I suppose someone should also get DNA samples from these corpses. It could help identify who robbed us." There is a look of disgust on Moxie's face indicating that she has no intention of touching the rotting corpses.

There are two passages around the electrical field you can check, or move to another room.
Oddman
|
Oddman will rest for 10 minutes to recover stamina.
Azara Thenason
|
Azara also takes a rest. That techno ooze hit HARD.
"We should check these passageways, just in case, then move on. Counterclockwise work for everyone?" he offers up while catching his breath.
“Dusty” Rhodes
|
Before moving on, Dusty goes behind the electrical device to look around.
Specifically interested in the far object, circled in green.
| cmlobue |
This dark alcove contains a single overbearing feature: a rounded tank that stretches from the floor to the ceiling. Bright green liquid sloshes about in the tank as the tekenki sways, causing the vessel’s strangely inscribed metal frame to creak and groan. In the middle of the tank, a suspended, pulsing biological mass hangs, ragged tendrils of tubing and flesh dangling from it like vestigial tails.
Oddman
|
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Bugface
|
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Bah. Robbed.
{There was also a terminal on this thing. Bugface thinks.} Bugface points at the pillar over their shoulder.
“Dusty” Rhodes
|
Perception (visual): 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 16 + 2 = 26
Dusty’s face sours at the weird tank, but he doesn’t notice anything if interest. ”Anyone know what this is?”
Moxie Moon
|
what's with the DC's in this scenario? Even if your player was optimized to Perception (a lashunta with Skill focus and maxed out Wisdom), the most they could have would be like a +19 or +20 at this level
Moxie looks at the tank with a look of confusion. "Any idea what that is? Do you think it's alive?"
Oddman
|
If Oddman's and Dusty's rolls can be turned into aid anothers instead, Bugface makes the DC
| cmlobue |
Sure, I'll allow that.
With Oddman and Dusty helping point out some damage, Bugface finds an opening.
“Dusty” Rhodes
|
Dusty makes a face. "So who wants to go in the...organ...juice?"
Oddman
|
"Test it for acid." Oddman suggests, keeping up with the 'stomach' motiff of the map.
| cmlobue |
So, planning to do anything with the brain in a jar? Jumping in is an option.
Azara Thenason
|
Once he's feeling more himself, Azara gets to his feet and heads to the brain in a jar.
"That's...disturbing. I don't mind going in, but I have to ask...why? Are we trying to find something in there? If we need to examine it, I'm probably not the right person since I don't know much about brains. If you want it destroyed, I can do that, though. Do we think it's controlling the Tekenti? Have we decided if we're going to try to kill the Tekenti while we're in here?" Azara comments.
Moxie Moon
|
"Maybe we could try poking it with something?" Moxie offers. "I have this baton here."
Moxie Moon
|
With no one stopping her, Moxie gently and cautiously pokes the brain with her tactical baton.
“Dusty” Rhodes
|
Dusty makes a face and watches what happens to Azara and Moxie.
| cmlobue |
Poking the organic matter with the baton has no apparent effect on either the organic matter or the baton.
Oddman
|
Oddman touches the brain and uses his Mindlink mystic ability to communicate that they are inside the tekenki looking for some relics that were eaten less than a week ago.
If it has no effect, he’ll cast Detect Magic to try to discern if it is anything more than decoration.
If it’s just a dead brain, he’ll cast Grave Words on it.
| cmlobue |
You communicate your intent to the brain, which is definitely living. If it understands, it does not react in any way.
There is no magic in the tank, but you notice that the item found in the laser grid has a magic aura.
Azara Thenason
|
"It looks like the brain is a bust. Just a disembodied brain floating in a tank. Hardly even worth noting," Azara comments.
He'll wait for the group to identify the magic item from the laser grid then moves on, continuing to explore the innards of the MechaKaiju.
Oddman
|
Telepathy, anyone?
Oddman will try to pull the brain from the jar, if nobody has other ideas.
Moxie Moon
|
Moxie will take some telepathy.
| cmlobue |
The tank is 20 feet tall. Unless he has some sort of appropriate tool, Oddman will have to submerge himself to attempt this.
Oddman
|
Oddman makes sure his environmental protections are on, and plunges into the mother brain pool.
| cmlobue |
Oddman
|
Will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
That's 1 round of paralysis
Oddman ponders about the mysteries of this world he just uncovered… and tries to pull the brain out of the jar.
If the thing is really well-attached he’ll give up and swim out - it’s not part of the mission, he just felt like he had to try to get something out of it
| cmlobue |
Oddman jumps into the tank. For a few seconds, he stops moving completely. He recovers quickly and begins trying to remove the organic matter. Nothing he does can move it more than a few millimeters, though.
Removing the brain is beyond the scope of the scenario, unsurprisingly.
Oddman
|
Onwards!
Oddman climbs out of the jar, dripping green liquid all over the floor - and carrying a secret.
That was quite a Perception DC for just a drowning trap and a flashback
“Dusty” Rhodes
|
Back!
Dusty grimaces as Oddman emerges from the brain vat. "Anything fun? If not, shall we try to get out of here? Or are we missing anything?"
Moxie Moon
|
"What happened to you in there?" Moxie asks the mystic with concern in her voice. "You just kind of froze up in there."
Oddman
|
Oddman shrugs, dismissing the whole episode.
| cmlobue |
The corridor to the northeast has a smaller computer terminal as well as another ceiling-high jar of fluid and organic matter, which also appears to have been pried open. There is a dead body on the floor.
Oddman
|
Oddman examines the corpse for relics:
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
Azara Thenason
|
Azara watches Oddman long enough to make sure he's not going to get attacked or anything then moves on to the next chamber to check for threats.
| cmlobue |
Unfortunately, Oddman does get attacked.
Laser Blast Trap: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21
Fire Damage: 8d10 ⇒ (4, 8, 3, 1, 7, 5, 4, 1) = 33
After he is struck by the ray, you can hear a low whine, as if it is recharging.
Moxie Moon
|
Moxie rushes forward, scanning the area to see where the buzzing is coming from.
Perception, Aid: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
She's going to Aid someone who is actually good at Perception (probably Dusty or Bugface) instead of trying it on her own.
"Oddman, get down! It's going to fire again!"
If she can search while prone, Moxie will also drop down
Oddman
|
Oddman searches for traps instead of relics.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Traps every room? And that's a deadly one
| cmlobue |
More traps, more fun!
Oddman is able to locate the motion sensor that caused the laser to fire. The area it covers is large enough that you cannot get anything in the room without setting it off. You think you have about a minute before it goes off again.
Bugface
|
Bugface rushes over to the computer terminal to see if there's a way to turn it off in one minute or less.
Computers: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32
Oddman
|
Can Oddman destroy the sensor with his adamantine weapon?
“Dusty” Rhodes
|
Dusty hustles over to the trap and attempts to deactivate it.
Engineering: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31
| cmlobue |
The whining sound slowly fades, then stops.
Oddman continues to check the body. It is mangled like the others and has neither identification nor useful gear.
Oddman
|
Oddman takes a 10 minutes rest before the next trap - he also wonders if this other brain would offer him a new revelation...
Azara Thenason
|
"It's almost like this thing has gone through millions of years of evolution to ensure that no strange organisms can survive inside of it to wreak havoc," Azara comments as Dusty deactivates the trap and they wait for Oddman to recover.
