You find yourself onboard the ship: 'Sunken Maiden' from Absalom to Oppara.

It is led by a cunning but friendly hobgoblin captain named Olzu the beauty and the crew consists only of Goblins. The crew seems very chaotic and they are pranksters, every now and then you find yourself locked in your cabin hearing laughter when you try to get out.

You soon also learn where the name came from, whenever captain Olzu catches her crewmate not behaving they sunk the maiden. The goblin needs to put on a dress and is being thrown into the water from the bow and is caught on the lasso when passing the stern. That usually cools down that individual temper and provides plenty of entertainment for the rest of the crew.

Feel free to introduce in-character

Bloody Goblins! Open this door! You hear shouted from below decks. There’s a bit of crashing and banging. Suddenly two goblins scurry up from below decks laughing and jumping, meanwhile being chased by a large cloaked figure. He attempts to grab one but he easily slips away. If I didn’t need this passage, I’d cleave all of you to tiny pieces and feed you to the sharks! he exclaims again. Across his chest you see a bandolier with several small vials, none of them labeled, but each has very distinct colorations to them, you also see a couple of twigs, some leaves, and a vial of unknown liquid sitting in the last pouch. Across the Half-Orcs back lays a Greataxe, and you make out what appears to be a dagger jutting from his belt. A keen eye notices another dagger on his left forearm, and a sling tied to his right. As the goblins climb the main mast and well out of his reach, he shouts out, By Sarenrae’s light, if I ever get the chance, you’ll learn why the call me Cracked Tusk! with that he retreats back below deck, not wishing to be disturbed unless necessary.

A blue-skinned goblin who is not a member of the crew sets down his flute and turns toward the commotion. I hope he's just having a bad day, he thinks, and doesn't plan to toss me overboard with the rest of the crew.

With a sigh, he stands and walks towards any of the other Pathfinders on this mission who remained on deck. "My name is Jiki," he says cheerfully. "I guess I'm here to provide entertainment and inspiration to everyone on this little quest."

A red kobold in raggedy garments impatiently picks the locks to his cabin following the goblins’ antics. All while he works he mutters under his breath. ”Yes yes, very funny, funny like caltrops in the pillowcase, or loose rigging set to knock the funny types overboard. Funny like their family having a week’s wages stolen from their grimy mattress. Yes yes, who has the last laugh, friend? Ooooh we shall see, we will, yes yes.”

Another half-orc, considerably more mild-mannered and timid compared to Cracked Tusk, seems to have gotten some of the crew to his side starting from the second day of the journey. He calls out to one of the goblin crew, who immediately comes over.
"Hey there, friend. Can you please talk with your crewmates to take a break in hazing Cracked Tusk there at least for the day? It pains me to see you treating another half-orc so bad. You don't want to make me sad, do you?" The goblin shakes his head and runs off, tackling the one who locked Cracked Tusk in and starting an argument with him.

The robed half-orc comes over to Cracked Tusk. "I try to do what I can to befriend them but there's too many of them. I can get only a couple of them on my side and only for a limited time."
He turns to Jiki.
"Hey Jiki, I'm Thurk. It looks like the ones most starved for entertainment on this boat here is the crew. Maybe we could team up? I'm not a performer but I can do some magic tricks so if you give me some cues maybe we could create a show for them together and in this way distract them from constantly bothering us?"

Earlier in the voyage a shy, lanky Garundi man shuffled onboard and immediately retreated to his cabin to pour over his formulae.

Soon after the snickering crowd passes by his door, but he pays it no mind... at first. After a while he gets up to test his cabin door.

Wrenching it several times he finds it stuck, proceeding to pound on it several times and pleading pitifully.

Um.... anybody? Somebody out there? I don't have any lockpicks with me. Please? They took my red swingline lockpicks. I could firebomb the boat and sink all of us. Anybody?

Despite the common fears, the ship kept to the course and its position over the water.

After few interesting days onboard The Sunken Maiden, the ship sails up the River Porthmos until it circles north past an island stronghold. As it rounds the river’s final bend, the ship sails into a bustling harbor filled with people and vessels from all across the Inner Sea. A gargantuan bridge spans the wide river, connecting the southern bank to the vast city of Oppara. To the north rises an enormous, weatherworn dome on top of a hill otherwise covered with beautiful old buildings and manicured gardens.

You may suspect that there is more than one person tracking you and they change every now and then.

You see from the distance the infamous Gray Market that offers questionable goods straight from the docks. Between doing some commotions, creative usage of spells, and crossing of the market you were able to shake off the tail that you got. They never came close enough for you to be able to grab any of them. After spending few minutes making sure that no one was following you, you came back on heading to the lodge.

After entering it, the person at the counter nods and takes you at the back, through the storage of fishing tackle into an office. There stands a middle-aged male human (Muesello) on his desk lies a few disassembled wayfinders.

"A concerned friend brought a series of illegal street tournaments to my attention. They would like the Pathfinder Society to look into them, and as you have probably guessed, that is why you are here."

He gestures towards the city outside the balcony. "Many of those that compete in the tournaments have gone missing. I have arranged for you to go undercover and take part in the upcoming tournament. I need you to find out who is organizing them and, if possible, what their purpose is."

He hands over a piece of paper. "Go to this street corner on the eastern edge of Grandbridge. The tournament contact will meet you there. Oh, and before I forget: would you kindly hand over your wayfinders? We should not advertise who we are during this mission. I want you to be as discreet as possible. The situation in Taldor is delicate, and we do not want to attract unwanted attention."

"Look, we know very little. If this tournament woulbe a regular price fighting no one would bother to check them. But contenders are missing, which is unusual for such contests, these are not only winners but also other groups that did well."

He waits for a moment and says

"I've sent the men to watch you on your way here. These were beginning agents sharpening their tools. I am glad that you spotted them and did not let them trace you back here. Well done."

I think I answered all of the questions, if you have some more speak now. I will move us forwards in the next post. This is the last moment to buy stuff if you need to. Please track the extra potion.

"So are the winners or the losers going missing? Before or after they fight?" Klank chimes in with some new questions, moving past the general unpleasantness of the circumstances. "These fights aren't to the death or anything right?" He takes the healing potion without question.

Nothing I'm looking to buy right now.

Klank:

You believe the VC to be telling the truth. He sends junior agents to track you, and he is genuinely concerned for the tournament and it purpose.

"Mostly winners disappear, after taking few fights. And no the fights are not to the death, from what I know they have a cleric to stabilize the participants. But things happen, everyone uses sharp weapons and deadly spells. "

Vigilant Seal

Male Half-Orc Wizard 2 | HP 22 | AC 16 | F:5, R:6, W:7 | Perc: +5 (Darkvision)

How do we get ourselves noticed and invited? Is there a particular spot in town that is known to host these... events? Do we have to get into some trouble with the law ourselves to blend in? If so, will we have a bailout for going undercover?

"Fight bad, get hurt. Fight good, go missing. Get noticed but not by guards. This job should at least pay well for how lousy it is." The kobold scowls and shuffles off to join the group.

Do we get starting consumables for our Pathfinder training, or is that the potion?

Yes, a b-b-bailout plan. I do think that component is pretty important h-h-here.

Elsha looks at the VC expectantly.

Muesello says

"I've got you an entrance to the contest. Through some people I signed up a crew of 6, you have a meeting in 1 hour on a corner not that far from here. This will be with someone from the organizers who will take you to the first fight. That person might know something so it could be a good idea to get familiar with them."

"A bailout plan Master Ustosh, is that we hired skilled individuals who will be able to leave. You should be within the city walls so if things turn south you can reach out to city guards."

If you have other questions I can respond retrospectively. I will get you going

"I wish you the best of luck."

You leave the shop into the street. The number of people there can be a bit overwhelming for some of you that are used to the wilderness. The directions that you got allowed you to find the spot rather quickly. When you arrive at the corner a young Taldan woman approaches you and asks smiling

"You look like heading for a fight, are you the ones that signed up for the tournament? I am Vionnia, what are your names, tell me something about yourselves?" That would be the time to introduce yourselves.

She’s a young Taldan woman with bright green eyes and an easy smile. She seems to be nice and friendly. Picture on slide 3

Everyone calls me Cracked Tusk. No, it’s not my given name. I’m here to show that the Orcs are not just bloodthirsty killing machines from the past. Tusk stands tall and proud at this, then thinks. As for her to fight, of course, time to stain the area with the blood of our foes! fort a second, there is a thirst in his eyes, and sneer on his lips as he cracks his marked and calloused fingers. It’s only for the briefest of moments before he regained composure again and blinks. Er, sorry about that. Umm… what brings you out here? He asks again in his usual calm and collected voice.
