The half-elf manages to combat the worst of the blast, and the iruxi's magic makes short work of any lingering effects. "Thanks for the healing," Kelvris tells the lizardfolk almost absently.
"Is everyone well enough?" the atavistic elf asks, walking over to the leshy's remains, plucking some of its body away. "I can use its own life force to help restore others if not. It will take a few moments, but the wild can provide as well as the ministrations of medicine... sometimes better."
He sighs. "As for pressing on, I'm amenable, though my more powerful spells are diminished for a time. Instead of using my magic to make shorter work of those creatures, I found myself spending the entirety of that battle simply trying to keep some of us on our feet."
Saved for half, so down 5 hp total, which Spry's spell then heals.

Most of you look better than what you did as you spend a few minutes looking over the corpses. It is difficult to tell but the leshy's seem tainted by something, though it is hard to tell what without more information. Please go ahead and continue whatever healing you want in your next post.
After the encounter with the leshys, Jaldan sets a hard pace for the camp, determined to get home before anything else goes wrong. You shamble into the encampment just as the Redpines are setting up for the night.
The Redpine camp is located at a bend in a small forest stream. Hides stretch from branch to branch, making for a cluster of oddly shaped but surprisingly large dwellings. A few trenches have been dug to reroute part of the stream and form a kind of moat or firebreak around the camp, and several decorated banners hang from spears driven into the ground. The smell of roasting meat wafts over the camp, and you see several rabbits cooking over a fire.
Jaldan enthusiastically hails a sentry. The sentry quickly welcomes you into the camp and you are allotted a patch of ground, and given roast rabbit and wild greens. Jaldan steals a rabbit leg from Tiger, then trots off to report to the camp’s leaders.
About an hour later, you are approached by a golden-eyed lizardfolk with coppery scales.
“Stars move more easily than minds.” The lizardfolk observes to no one in particular, sitting down on a log. “I am Urwal.”
“Jaldan spoke to us. You have seen Finadar’s problem in flower and flesh. Tell me what you have seen.”

Spry Conor greets the copper iruxi in their native tongue, then begins describing some of the leshy encounter in Common. "One dreadful creature, a rotten gourd with rabbit feet, lunged toward our guide, only to trip. It smashed itself against a tree root and some kind of hot sap splashed out. In seconds the bruorsivi needles burst into flames! We fought the flames. Though my friends will have to relate the fighting of the poor creatures."

Urwal seems intrigued by your story. “Let me tell you a story.” Urwal says, changing the subject abruptly. “North of here, there is a valley. Dragons died there, and their bones linger. For centuries, goblins dwelled among the bones. They made rituals of fire and worship. Such a life is not for me, but the goblins were happy.”
“Beneath the dragons’ graves lay a monolith. I have heard tale of it. Carven rock, six handspans tall, covered in the markings of the one-eyed shapers. For years past number, the stone slumbered, until even the stars changed above it."
“Then, as the Sun blessed the Newlyweds, the goblins’ rituals awoke the stone. It remembered its shapers. It remembered its purpose. And it remembered its powers. It called living fire into the dragons’ bones. Finadar burned. Pathfinders came to help. The stone was found, broken. All seemed well."
“But now the spirits grow strange and furious. Cenenviel and Kaana seek to guard their peoples’ lives. This is well. But I think it wise that someone seek out that stone. The stars agree.”
Urwal is quiet for a long moment, and then nods briskly. “This is an auspicious night. The Dreamer is bright. Walk the camp, see where you may be of aid. Brighten the name of the Pathfinders."
“You will leave in the morning. For the valley. For the stone.”

Kelvris stood, not really waiting on the others before spurring into step. These were not his tribe, so in his mind, he was still alone.
It would take time before he would consider the contrary, especially given how fragile they currently seemed in his estimation. His faction's leader asked that he make himself useful, so he set off in search of Cenenviel and Kaana. He understood the desire to keep one's people safe.
"As it seems we will rest here for the night," he begins, pausing and pointing towards Rhee and unleashing more of his restorative magic, "try not to shake off the mortal coil any more until at least sunrise."

You find a small spot about the camp to set up and rest for the evening while you tend to your injuries and finish your rabbit.
Looking around you notice the elven druid, Cenenviel in one of the tents, poring over a motley and rather fire-damaged collection of old books, scouts’ reports, and scribbled notes.
Jaldan, the centaur who led you here with a small group of young centaurs. The apprentice shaman is cheerfully telling her friends about her trip with you, embellishing the leshy attack a bit.
Off on the outskirts of the camp you see Kaana Korag, the chieftain of the Redpines, overseeing the return of a patrol.
You may speak or interact with them if you wish, or you can simply choose to go to bed and continue on your mission in the morning.

Rhee and Nuoc set off to find Kaana overseeing the return of a patrol. As the pair approach they overhear a bit of the patrol's report. "The leshys have gone mad, their death releases poison in the air. Squirrel carcasses riddled with fungi and skittering about on dozens of small branches, moss-covered goblin skulls creeping about on lashing vines, and even gourds filled with blood pine sap that light themselves on fire before flinging themselves at us or buildings to explode!"
Kaana sees you approaching and sends the patrol off to resta nd find a meal. She greets you in a politely skeptical tone, ”I hear you’re going to sort out the trouble with the leshys? No disrespect, but what makes you think you can solve a dangerous, mysterious problem in a wild place you don’t know?”
You can try to overcome her skepticism by sharing war stories (Warfare Lore), demonstrating a knowledge of nature or the wilderness (Nature or Survival), or showing off weapons skills (making an attack with a ranged or melee weapon against a target).

Dad was already 'Little Conor' because Grandpa is 'Big Conor' and Mom is 'She Xonnre.' (In iruxi they sound more alike). By the time my little sister, was born I was already running around the house, over the furniture, up the walls, down the walls, jumping out of windows....' Anyway I became 'Spry Conor.'
As an emmisary, the iruxi feels he can be the most help with the logistics and heads over to the druid Cenenviel. "Can I be of any service"?

Cenenviel
While Rhee and Nuoc are speaking with the Chieftain Sry Conor finds himself drawn towards the druid Cenenviel's tent. Cenenviel looks up as he hears the rustling of the tent flap and sees Spry. "You made it I hear." He slides some papers aside off of a chair to give a seat. "I am trying to see if the spirits’ current anger has any historical precedent, which would be simpler if my records hadn’t been damaged in the fire." A large wolverine enthusiastically plays with a leather cord in a corner of the tent and presents the cord Spry, hopeful for a rousing game of tug-the-cord. "That's Berry-Eater, careful she will follow you all around the camp if you play with her."
You can help sort through the records with Arcana, Nature or Occultism.

Of course the iruxi can't resist a game of tug! He relays the Path finder's trek through the forest, while playing with Berry-Eater.

Spry and Cenenviel begin to sort through the records after playing a small game of tug-of-war with the wolverine. While searching through Berry-Eater curls up around Spry's legs and falls asleep. With Cenenviel's help the Iruxy notices finds references to some ancient cyclopean ruins in the area, including the stone in the valley, and an old cyclops grave surrounded by standing cairns. Cenenviel leans back. "I wonder if those cyclopean relics were meant to gather evil energies and if that is the cause of all the trouble. Maybe if we disable or destroy these relics it will free the leshy's and return them to normal?"
You have received all the successes you can for Cenenviel. You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to any Arcana or Occultism checks related to cyclopean relics for the rest of the adventure.
”Well, with that sort of background, what could go wrong?” Kaana asks. ”I’m eager to hear a few stories of where else you’ve been. Join me by my fire and have a drink, won’t you?” She swaps a few tales with the Rhee and Nuoc, including reminiscing about the time she had to kill a hill giant all on her own, which took two quivers’ worth of arrows. ”The giant looked like a porcupine afterward! Glad I made it out of that one alive!” Having had a few encounters with them of late, Kaana also shares a few tips on how to fight leshys.
You have received all the successes you can for Kaana. You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to initiative check if you fight any more leshys.
Along the way, however, you pass by a small group of young centaurs, where they can hear Jaldan excitedly telling her friends about her trip with the Pathfinders, ”…there must have been twenty of them, each one more weird-looking than the one next to it! And then one leshy exploded in a giant ball of fire and half the forest was burning! And I used my water spell to douse the fire and saved the forest!” As the Pathfinders come into view, she continues, ”And the Pathfinders were so brave! They slashed and cut the weird leshys, even though each one they killed made a big burst that could have killed us all! And then they healed my injuries after I got caught in one of those bursts! Pathfinders, join me in telling the tale of our fight today!”
You all can tell the story however you like, perhaps building up Jaldan’s reputation and adding a bit of luster to the name of the Pathfinder Society. Please include a Deception, Diplomacy, or Performance check in your post, depending on what you say.

Tiger and Flynn's demonstrations seem to fall on deaf ears as they unerringly repeat what others have already briefed, though it does do some good to backup your fellow Pathfinders stories with similar facts. Those were all failures.
Kelvris sets the scene as Spry Conor weaves a hyperbolic tale of wonder, danger and intrigue. The young centaur is so pleased and grateful, she gives Kelvris and Spry a big hug, then dashes into her tent and brings back a deep blue feather, with a shaft of gold. ”I made this myself – no, I really did,” she says as she presents it to the party. ”And I give it to you in thanks for the great adventure we had together and for, um, backing me up just now?”
This is a holly bush feather token.
The following morning, Urwal comes to speak to the party before they set out. Though he’s quiet about it, the iruxi appears quietly pleased with how they represented the Society. “I have cast horoscopes for your mission.” Urwal says without preamble, setting a pair of satchels full of traveling supplies by your campsite. “The omens are favorable enough, although the stars carry warning. The spirits of Finadar Forest are sick. Perhaps this is an abscess in nature, and must be lanced with sword and flame. But such a cure is to be mourned, not celebrated,” the lizardfolk says, emphasizing each word. “Better for all if a safer salve is found. Yes?”
Urwal makes it clear that the Pathfinders are to resort to violence only if all other options fail, then opens the satchels and hands out some supplies. They consist largely of bread, foraged mushrooms, and smoked meat. In addition, in thanks for their efforts so far, he gives them a small pouch of coin (4 gp and 45 sp, representing 1 treasure bundle). Holding up a small circle woven of dried leaves, he says, ”You risked much in putting out the fires yesterday, and this item comes from the primeval forest’s gratitude.” (This is a hunter’s bane.) With a broad smile full of teeth, he hands over a silver crescent moon pendant, adding, ”And because you made the Society’s star shine so brightly in meeting Cenenviel and Kaana Korag, I give you this.”
Nice work on the various challenges! Time to set out for the cyclops-haunted dragon graveyard! Any final preparations, if not I will post an update later tonight.

Moving us to the next scene, if there was prep you wanted to do before setting out, just include it in your next post.
As you travel over the course of the next day, you find the forest becoming gradually quieter. There are more burnt areas here, both old scars from earlier fires and the remnants of more recent blazes, presumably sparked by the corrupted leshys. There are fewer animals as well, and you notice there is scarcely any game, with hardly more than scraggly rabbits to be found.
In the early afternoon, the party comes across a small mountain stream, which matches Urwal’s directions— you're on the right path. As you are crossing the stream, you spot movement up ahead. An enormous animated scarecrow is busily clearing the collected growth of eons past from an ancient set of cyclopean menhirs that surround what looks to be an altar or grave of some kind, decorated with a sinuous, flowing script. Several small animals have been freshly sacrificed atop the altar, their blood sliding into the grooves of the letters carved into the stone. Getting a little closer, the Pathfinders realize the true size of the scarecrow, and can make out eyes like bubbling black pools in its sackcloth face and hands twisted into wooden talons dark with blood.
In addition to the scarecrow, a handful of giant centipedes move about on the edge of the standing stones, as if lured there by the strange energy of the place. They move in an unsettling synchrony, as if united in some dim, instinctual understanding fueled by whatever ritual the scarecrow is engaged in.

Tigers wounds close as the starry path shimmers and a gash appears on Spry Conor's skin. The cleric calls upon his magic again, this time sending star knife of divine energy at the red centipede.
Divine lance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10, angelic choir sings: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Tiger's 1 damage transfers to Conor, cast divine lance

Fort save vs poison
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Hero point reroll: Fort save vs poison
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Tiger watches in amazement as the wound suddenly closes and glances back in time to see the gash appear on Conor. Tiger waves back at his companion in thanks as he growls away the burning pain of the poison and shifts into his namesake stance. Turning his hands into claws, he slashes at the centipede to his right.
1 - assume tiger stance
2 - flurry of blows with tiger claw at the purple centipede
Tiger Claw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Tiger Claw #2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Damage Assuming they hit
Slashing Damage 1: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Slashing Damage 2: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
If the purple centipede dies from the fist attack, then my last attack will target Pink
Tiger Claw#3: 1d20 + 6 - 8 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 8 = 1
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Rhee
|
Rhee slashes out at the centipedes near at hand!
(I'll start with Pink if it is still up and then switch to red.)
Rhee's Gale Blade: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Rhee's Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Rhee's Gale Blade 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Rhee's Damage 2: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Rhee's Gale Blade 3: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Rhee's Damage 3: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Rhee's blade slices one of the centipedes into thirds while Spry Conor's divine lance misses. Kelvris tosses a small ball of flame into the wounded centipede. You hear a shrill shriek as the centipede curs up in its death throes.
Tiger is barely able to catch the centipede as it skitters away. to safety, rapidly retreating back into the woods.
Combat Over.
Poking around the standing cairns that the scarecrow uncovered you find that the stones are covered in complex writing in the ancient cyclopean script.
You deduce that these stones originate from Old Koloran, the cyclopean empire that occupied modern-day Iobaria (among many other places), famous for its widespread worship of fiends and other horrors. The cairns seem to show Finadar Forest, with its swift-burning blood pines, as a great ritual battery for the cyclopses, a place to hold Abyssal energy until it was needed. This energy was brought forth into the world by a series of burning monoliths. The depiction of the monoliths (three feet tall and covered in burning runes) matches Urwal and Cenenviel’s description of the monolith in the old dragon graveyard.
You realize that a monolith spewing Abyssal energy into the forest would explain the twisting of Finadar’s spirits and the bizarre leshys. As the Abyssal pollution is still in its early days (Finadar Forest was meant to be powered by dozens of these monoliths, not just one), if the source is removed, then the forest spirits would likely return to normal quickly.
You also notices that the cairns seem to mark a tomb, which can probably be pried open. Athletics

Kelvris looks at the stones but can't make heads or tails of it. "Anyone worth a damn at making sure if I give this thing a heave it won't blow us all to our respective deities?" the atavistic half-elf asks, taking a look at the tomb's entrance.

Tiger examines the scarecrow (or what's left of it), while he doesn't expect to find treasure, he searches to see if the one who animated the object left any identifying marks.
