"Let's quickly search the area," Elena says to the others as she moves further in. She spares a quick glance at the dead xulgaths, shaking her head. "These creatures may have meant us harm, but they are here for a reason. I'd like to know what that is."
Elena will start with the area around the fight, then look around to the northwest space. She's keeping an eye out for anything that stands out as unnatural, and will use Detect Magic once or twice to augment her search

Elena finds little. There's a path forward to the southwest where the passageway meanders briefly. The floor descends slightly and soon becomes flooded by a shallow pool of water. The water appears to be flowing out of a passageway to the east, and a shimmering blue light in that direction reflects off of the water there. The main passageway continues to the south, over the slight depression in the floor where the water has pooled. It certainly smells better in that direction.

"Cross the water and head south is my suggestion," Elena says, looking back to the others. "Peldur, I'm sure you can just across that water easy. Want to have a look first?"

Peldur rubs his hands together, then takes a few quick, short breaths followed by one big one, which he holds. He then steps into the water and walks through the water to the South.

Peldur moves into the water and then gets a look at the way south. It's at the limit of Elena's supplied light, but it looks like a haphazard barricade of barrels. Peldur thinks it would take him all of 30 seconds to undo the barrier.

The party opts to check the flame first. It's a short walk and leads to an interesting chamber. On the far side of the puddle of water is strange chamber, crackling with magical energy. Pulsing orbs float in three of the four corners of this room. The orb in the southwest is made of brown earth and stone, whereas the one in the northeast looks to be made of glass, and is filled with a swirling cloud. The orb in the far corner holds a roaring flame; opposite that orb are shattered remains and the water that flows down the passageway to the northwest.
Carrufikus confirms that there is magic in the room.

Well, technically I roll, and that's not really how it works in 2e.
So Bibi is slowing down to look for traps as she moves about the room.
Given her abilities, she not skilled enough (yet) to do this and hide.
This means since the next thing happens before she gets close enough to search...
Bibi steps into the room to begin searching it for danger, but before she can get anywhere near the orb of fire it shatters! What emerges looks just like a rat, made up entirely of burning coal and smoldering flame! It immediately moves on Bibi.

Bibi doesn't know what it is, but she puts an arrow directly into it despite the smoke obscuring its edges! In moments, the shaft of the arrow catches fire, and burns to ash, but the damage is obvious as the flames fueling the creature dim noticeably. Hero Point for opening the fight with a max damage crit! Additionally, the rat smokes enough that it's hard to see properly, so you need to pass a DC 5 flat check to hit it.

Peldur rushes in towards the rat. Once close, he realizes that the smoke is full of ash. FORT: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30, but it doesn't affect the brawler in the least.
Both attacks from his well callused hands land. The cinder rat is clearly and seriously wounded. The smoke continues to fill his lungs though, and the danger in still present.
Anyone who enters or begins their turn within 5' of the rat needs to pass a FORT DC 22 or become Sickened 1.

Elena is positive it's a cinder rat. Bibi and Carrufikus both conclude that there's no material treasure in here, BUT both the air and the earth globes radiate magic.

She moves out to the near passage, examining the surroundings.

Peldur holds up a fist. Then he taps his ear and points to the barrels. He crouches down and tiptoes around in a circle. He covers his mouth and eyes and hops in place. He flails his arms, then slaps his head a few times. He grabs his shoulders and hops a few more times. He then looks at the group for confirmation.

Bibi creeps to Elena, tugs her sleeve until she stoops to Bibi's level, and the halfing whispers I think he said he's having your baby.
Bibi then slides toward the barrels, and peers through to the other side, if possible.
She'll also examine the barricade, and determine whether she could rig them to fall in ward or something else suitably spectacular.
