"Well, do you blame me? I've only seen you in two potential combat situations and you talked your way out twice," Adol replies, shrugging. "I don't have much in the way of ranged weapons, but if that's the group's strength I guess I'll stand in the way in case they come close."

He takes cover behind a nearby building, assuming there is one while the ghouls are busy, and flicks the wand to attempt to cast from it.

When the wand flares and sparkles, but then dies down, he sighs and tries again unless stopped. "This one sometimes doesn't work, but it usually does..."

Suddenly, offensive spells are cast and the healer moves into near melee to channel energy.

Not having time for anything else, he drops the wand and rushes in after Dhakira. Once he gets in front of her, if there is time, a spring loaded wrist sheeth produces a second wand which DOES work.

Move, swift: draw prot. vs evil wand, standard, cast it. + 2 defelction to ac (24/23/14) and +1 extra resistance on saves vs evil creatures.

He then also drops the second one and calls out to the ghouls and opens his arms in invitation. "Well, who're you gonna eat? An overcooked, chubby dwarf or me!?"

Say'ri rushes forwards and halts at the edge of Uthe's plants, leading with her buckler. "Stay behind me!" She commands Dhakira as she overtakes the dwarf.

Most of the ghouls are caught in Uthe's flames and howl their anger, only one managing to twist away from the worst. Between the flames and the plants the ghouls are largely trapped, two unable to free themselves.

Dhakira's holy energy burns three of the ghouls to ash, their forms already weakened by Uthe's fire. The only remaining ghoul is the one biting frantically at Say'ri's shield and it proves no danger - its (re-)death coming swiftly.

Only one ghoul on 4hp left, not much of a fight.

Only one shop shows any signs of recent traffic - Windward Wend Oils Company. A pungent aroma wafts from under the doors - smells of food heavily seasoned with coriander seed, garlic, and other spices, mingled with the earthy aroma of decay. Inside bright stains mar the gray wooden shelves on the walls. In the rear of the shop, a beaded curtain hangs over an opening that leads deeper into the building. Three pale looking humans are sitting in the shop, fiddling idly with various spices and other pieces of debris. Upon seeing you they all leap up.

"Hey, we were assigned this tomb in the Lottery!" One of them says. "You're not allowed to poach other teams sites. I know this place looks like a shop but it seems to have been converted into a mausoleum by the last owners. We're still working through the place - it's a real maze."

The three men look at each other and then one of them shrugs. "Ok, look. We came here to do some looting - alright? There were barely any ghouls in the market and its been a lot easier than we expected to set up here. Problem is our boss, guy called Bheg, has been holed up in the cellar for days now. I think something's happened to him, but he keeps the door locked and honestly, we never liked him much. We've just been waiting for a chance to take what we've found and move out. But those damn Silver Chains in the masks have been around a lot recently. Hard to use the tunnels when they're traipsing through all the time."

He looks Adol up and down. "You're not here for us so I guess you're here for them. Jask saw one of them headed into some weird pyramid a little way aways. If you go there you'll probably find them. But... if you want to make some more gold... you can head into the cellar and find out what happened to Bheg. Keep whatever you find down there and we'll call it quits? Seem fair to you."

Adol detects no evil from the men.

I can't find an evil taint on these men... which admittedly doesn't mean much, but there are much bigger threats here that we should prioritise," Adol reasons, quickly following after Jamie. Beyond the door you find that several mummified bodies have been neatly stacked on top of a bed in this small chamber. Dust covers everything except the corpses. A narrow door opens to a short staircase which leads down into the basement.

A stinging chemical stink fills this room, which is separated from the rest of the building by a bea. Shards of broken glass and scraps of desiccated flesh litter the floor, along with a jumble of crockery, bundled herbs, and dismembered mummified limbs. A gaunt looking figure in dark robes looks up from his work station, long tongue flicking out across sharp teeth before he leaps at Jamie, snarling.

Say'ri steps in front of Jamie and fires a pistol at nearly point blank range sending a bullet smashing into the creature.

Similarly, the paladin rushes past Jamie at the figure. "Watch out!" he cries, then strikes it with a blade of light!

Say'ri's pistol bullet strikes the creature in the shoulder with an audible snapping noise, but the alchemist doesn't scream s a normal person would. Adol's blade also cuts into the creature, which seems too fixated on flesh to dodge properly - the holy power searing its flesh. The creature however powers through the pain and attempts to bite a chunk from the paladin's face!

It's teeth tear at Adol's neck, just falling short of piercing the veins! The ghoul's expression turns momentarily blissful as it swallows the chunk of flesh, despite all the damage it's suffered.

Adol's face contorts in pain as a good chunk of his neck is torn off! Though, whether by extreme natural fortitude or simply being used to horrible things happening to him, he refrains from screaming.

Jamie puts on a good show but doesn't manage to get her blade anywhere near the ghoul. Jazadi likewise doesn't achieve anything, although she does at least get her whip on target. Uthe pummels it with magical missiles before Adol removes the creature's head with a righteous blow!

Say'ri and Dhakira can save their bullets/channels.

Dhakira applies her healing wand to Adol's injuries while the rest of you surveil the scene. The alchemist was well equipped, with six vials of greenblood poison, a robe of needles, an alchemy crafting kit and his formula book. Hidden in a pile of earth in the corner of the make-shift lab are four doses of mumia, worth 500gp each on the street, although the drug has numerous terrible side-effects.

When you emerge from the lab it becomes clear that the thugs have taken advantage of your absence and fled with what they could carry. You still have the lead they mentioned though, a small pyramid a couple of streets away. Area N

"Guess they went on with the robbery, after all. At least what they said seems true so far. Let's hope the same holds for this pyramid as well," Adol says, wiping off the sword on the alchemist's clothes, then following Jamie.

"I think the mumia production was the main idea." Say'ri says, having dropped all of the drugs into the sand until they were utterly worthless. "Horrible stuff, made from powdered mummies. Valuable, but despicable. They were probably the muscle to keep the place safe while the alchemist made it - guess no-one expected him to turn into a ghoul."

She nods to the collective decision on the pyramid and follows along, taking Uthe's paw in her hand as they walk.

"For something such as mumia there is always a price to be paid," Uthe says as she watches Say'ri dispose of it in the sand. "Unfortunately, sometimes the price is paid by those with the least choice in the matter."

As Say'ri's hand closes on hers, the amurrun responds with a light squeeze and a curious glance.

Despite its name, the "Pyramid" of Arithmetic Bliss is nothing of the sort; rather it is a unique trapezoidal shape that stands out rather obviously against the necropolis' skyline.

Entering the walled courtyard you find a long-neglected garden decorated with 30ft tall obelisks. Several squat outbuildings stand near the western wall but a sprawling sandstone building with a steeply pitched pyramidal roof and elaborate reliefs dominates the property.

The Obelisks are inscribes with lists of names in Ancient Osiriani and the walls show hieroglyphics which seem to detail achievements of a long-ago mason's guild.

Continuing into the building, you find a wide passage, lined with deep niches. Scrolls and loose pieces of parchment lie scattered on the floor.

You come upon a pair of undead dwarves gibbering about nonsense here. They attack but they are no problem for you all and you manage to deal with them with efficiency.

DC 15 Appraise:
You recognize several original manuscripts and historical treatises worth a total of 1900 gp. Someone has discarded these priceless historical treasures without any appreciation of their true value.

Pressing on, you enter a room full of broad stonework tables with tools and notes placed upon them with apparent significance and precision. Several sarcophagi line the walls, surrounded by dusty models, urns, and statues. In the Northeast corner, a disorderly campsite marrs the mathematical order of the room's design. Unfortunately, as you step forward two Mummies emerge from the Sarcophagi, their lids crashing to the ground spilling up a cloud of dust as the undead abominations lurch towards you.

"Everyone, don't give in! You're the Falcons, aren't you!? Surely you've fought mummies before! Their bark is much worse than their bite!" Adol shouts, seeing some of his allies falter, right before moving in to intercept the attacks!

Adol is immune to fear, and his aura of courage gives everyone within 10 ft of him a +4 morale bonus on fear saves. Might be enough to make Jamie and Jazadi succeed vs paralysis?

He brushes past Jazadi and focusses his will against the closest one before striking! "No one else dies on my watch."

With Adol's presence, Jazadi manages to shake off the paralyzing fear and turns to cast a spell on Dhakira & Jamie!

Most of the Falcons freeze up in fear at the sight of not one, but two Mummies. Thankfully Adol's inspiring presence and refusal to be cowed gives Jazadi enough courage to carry on and she in turn restores Dhakira and Jamie's willingness to fight.

Adol cuts deeply into the first mummy, his holy blade cutting deeply into its undead flesh. Both mummies descend on Adol. The paladin easily avoids the first blow, landing a devastating counterattack - but this leaves him open to the second mummy who catches him with a ringing blow on the head.

There's a low growl from Uthe as she attempts to burn the undead with flames again. It's followed by a nasty hissing and spitting as yet another spell is disrupted as she attempts to avoid any attacks from the mummies.

Adol's ears ring from hearing the gun used up close, which doesn't exactly mix well with the unholy strength he was just knocked full in the temple with. But he continues his assault, deflecting the incoming blows as best he can!
