In reviewing the cave area, I see no reason to not let you know the layout (it makes it easier for me to show you the entire map). As you move around I will post the details of what you see/encounter.
"I will gladly watch the rear of the party for any threats and will do my best to thwart them or at least warn the rest of you."
Adrian and Caine quietly move into the cave. They do not notice anything other than brackish water which appears to be slowly sinking into the rocks. You estimate the depth to be around 3 feet.
Kwai Chang Caine. |
Caine shrugs before retreating to the other tunnel to investigate.
We can leave the water at our backs for now. Let's explore the more easily accessible tunnels first.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Kwai Chang Caine. |
Caine watches the hairy-red fellow. Then in Sylvan he asks
Excuse us, but have you noticed any renegade skeletons or goblins 'round here?
Diplomacy(Cha): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
The magus smiles warmly. He gives a thumbs up to the group.
GM_Corwyn |
The creature hadn't noticed Caine until he spoke, upon hearing his voice it stops consuming the gecko and leaps at Caine.
@Zaravleva - you may fire at the creature, but by the time it comes into your line of sight it will have attacked.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
The creature's fangs penetrate Caine's left arm which instinctively raises to block the advance. Poison flows through Caine's veins and he struggles to resist its effects.
Kwai Chang Caine. |
Fort DC14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Caine winces at the pain from the bite!
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Well, I am beginning to think that everyone is an ass!
Zaraleva |
OOC:I think that means that she is firing into melee. She's not so great at that.
"Watch out! Ew, too late." She lets the crossbow bolt fly, trying to line up a shot around the brave Kwai Chang Caine.
Readied Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 4 = 151d8 ⇒ 5
Readied Crossbow, confirm crit on a 19-20: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 101d8 ⇒ 2
Nature: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
"That's the biggest wolf spider I've ever seen! Don't let it poison you!"
Hattori Aiko |
Aiko purses her lips but remains silent. The narrow hall makes it impossiblr for her to get past Caine and the spider and into the fray.
Hattori Aiko |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Because the DC to move through an enemy's square is incredibly high, this probably means that I fall prone in the space that uh... whoever is meleeing against the spider is in, since there's no room on either side for me to go around.
GM_Corwyn |
With an incredible display of agility and grace, Aiko narrowly leaps and spins past the spider landing on her feet on the far side of the creature.
Aiko you still have a standard action you may take. If you manage to kill the spider, it will not make the following attack:
The spider focused on Caine attempts to bite him again.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
@Caine Another DC 14 Fort Save
Hattori Aiko |
Shocking!
Aiko manages to land on the other side of the spider and draws her sword.
Don't have a +1 BAB, so it takes the remainder of my turn to draw my sword.
Kwai Chang Caine. |
Round 1
Caine's blue eyes water quite a bit after the initial shock of the bite; then the fighting off the venom passes.
He then watches (a bit blurry though) as Aiko acrobatics pass him and the mean red-spider! The Youth begins to appreciate the artistry of her dance beyond that...
Ouch! What the f@$+! That is not....I mean...we barely know each other...
Fort DC14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
The Magus sways a bit. The red-spider beginning to multiply before his watery eyes. He wobbles. He staggers. He raises his club-like branch (but not a club) to weakly swing at the asshat!
He swiftly powers his weapon!
Melee Improvised Weapon, flank, arcane +1: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Suck it!
He promptly falls over with a smile on his face!
Zaraleva |
(Did Caine drop the spider?)
A. No. Zaraleva flinches at the bloodshed and shoots at the spider again.
crossbow: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 161d8 ⇒ 6
"Well, there's an opening for you Adrian. Caine just knocked himself out."
B. Yes. Zaraleva will hurry over and Rebuke Death.
Healing: 1d4 ⇒ 3 for Caine.
Aiko, it's a little too close, could you stab it once for me and prove it's not full of 1000 babies?
Adrian Liu |
He thought he had to go in and come to blows with the spider... but it seems like the party had things covered... barely. With a sign he walked over to the newly conscious Caine.
"You can't try and make friends with every monster you meet. Some will just see you as food."
Zaraleva |
After injecting her own poison into the spider's brain, Zaraleva does the Rebuke Death on Caine. "Ok, Adrian, he can hear you now."
Hurray for second level! So few games actually make it this far. Do you want us to roll our HD or something else? Do we have to rest before we get the hp or spells?
Hattori Aiko |
Aiko keeps her sword cautiously in hand and moves slightly further into the cave while Zaraleva helps Caine back to his feet.
"We still haven't seen what made those skeletal foot tracks," says Aiko. "Caine, are you all right to keep going?"
GM_Corwyn |
You can roll and if you like the value you can use it or take the average based on the class die. For example, a cleric uses a d8 so you can take the average 4.5 rounded up to 5 or roll a d8 and if the value is greater than 5 you can use that. If it is less than or equal to 5 you can use the 5. You get the HP immediately, spells and abilities that require a full nights rest you will get with a full nights rest.
GM_Corwyn |
See this: Harvesting Poisons
"I can, but I didn't bring my tools to gather the poison. Using my dagger is tricky. I think I can use the same process I use on my snakes to develop an antivenom for this kind of spider, but all the stuff I would need to preserve the poison is back at my house. I'm not really an alchemist, so I fail a lot. It isn't an issue with my snakes because I can milk the venom from them without any danger, so I normally have to try several times to get it right.
Kwai Chang Caine. |
Caine cast Light on his branch.
Caine takes the proffered hand up to his feet. The Magus picks up his branch, kicks the spider and continues to walk about the cavern.
I am starting to believe that everything we meet will want to eat us!
Caine then begins looking about this cavern.
We may need to use this cave for shelter. Better clear it out.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
GM_Corwyn |
Other than the carcass of the gecko, the cavern appears empty.
Walthus looks somewhat perplexed,
"I only create antitoxins from the venom I extract."
A noticable shiver from Walthus is shown as he explains
"Sometimes people encounter poisonous creatures by accident. I try my best to help them. Using it as a weapon sounds like something an assassin would do. I wouldn't even think about doing that. Let's just finish exploring this cave so I can go home."
Kwai Chang Caine. |
Caine--willingly--will take the second spot in the Marching Order. The Magus hold his Lighted branch up for illumination.
I believe that hitting first, may be the way to go.
The Magus winks at the others.
Hattori Aiko |
"As good as any," says Aiko, moving as close as she can get to the front. Thinking again about the skeletal footprints, she stows her wakizashi and brings out her nunchaku, keeping them close under one arm while she watches for any more hazards.
Got trapfinding now!
