After looking at the death, wounded, dying rules, Brünwulf no longer has the wounded condition due to Elfino's treat wounds, right?

![]() |

The idea that we would have been better off attacking from range requires hindsight. We didn't know what was happening with the grates. If we had been blocked in that corridor while he pelted us from range, we'd be kicking ourselves for not having more melee.
Also, I'm not sure I agree that we have an advantage with range - with his teleportation ability, I think it's better to be locked in the octagon with him than for us to be spread out. He can always move to wherever he wants whenever he wants, we can't.
I agree that the persistent damage is really bad. It may TPK us even if we kill the devil.

Unfortunately, Battle Medicine does not remove the Wounded condition like Treat Wounds. It’s the price you pay for a 6 second patch job vs 10 minutes of careful treatment.

My suggestion for Brunwulf to use his bow instead of a melee weapon in the current situation was so that he could convert his last action into a Strike for one or two bow attacks, one of which might have knocked off the few remaining hp the devil has left.
I quite agree that we did not have enough information when we first entered the room to determine what the best approach was on how to attack the devil. I’m not sure even now tbh.

Elsha should conserve his elixirs of life for use on party members that are unconscious and dying and who Elfino cannot help. Zelphari and Brünwulf should have absolute priority as long as the devil still stands. Once the devil is down, those elixirs are going to be essential in keeping the persistently wounded from dying and death until they make their persistent damage checks. Two elixirs are not a lot; we went through nearly a dozen elixirs and potions keeping two guys going until they finally made their persistent damage checks, and that was after the creature had been killed. Let's hope our spellcasters make those counteract rolls so that we can use our healing potions.
Generally, yes, but it's also dangerous to approach near the devil. So I currently figured help Itka while Elsha can with the magical healing, and save the non-magical elixir for Zelphari or Brünwulf.
It was probably a mistake to use quick alchemy on the frost vial (hoping to impart a status impairment on the devil), instead of another elixir of life, but c'est la vie (or frost, as it were).

Itka's already cast Guidance on Zelphari, Brunwulf, and Elsha, so they're immune for an hour.

Yes, good idea. Itka and Zelphari have the best chance of counteracting the magic and making use of the Healing Potions, but the elixirs are guaranteed to work. Fortunately, we seem pretty well stocked on Healing Potions among all of us, even if we waste a few to failed counteracts. The best approach though is to somehow end the persistent damage; we're golden once that happens.

Dang it, you're right of course. So much for that suggestion. It's a bit like Elfino's Battle Medicine in that regard.
And speaking of ending the persistent damage, Itka, don't forget to roll your persistent damage flat-check at the end of your turn. I'll have Elfino do his Battle Medicine on you once we get rid of the devil, but if you can end that persistent damage before you drop to 0 hp, that would really help.

Should Brünwulf spend a couple actions putting the fire out on himself? That's where the persistent damage is coming from, right? He could also quaff his minor healing potion (free from School of Swords).

Itka's got persistent damage, but is not on fire. I can't tell if Brünwulf has both.

The impression I got was that Brünwulf's persistent damage (black pus) was the same type as Zelphari and Itka's; due to some magical side-effect of the devil's strike.
The Healing Potion, being magical healing will require you to counteract the magic of the wound first, which in your case apparently requires you to make a roll of 16 or higher (DC 18 with your WIS modifier of +2) on a d20. Otherwise, no healing will take place and you'll probably lose the potion in the attempt.
Itka or Zelphari with their +7 spell attack modifiers are our best best to counteract the magic and allow our healing potions to work. They'll probably need to activate the potions themselves and pour them down your throat.
Of course, we don't know about the counteract requirement yet, so one of us will likely have to sacrifice a Healing Potion before we realize what's going on.
Here is the description from the GM's post:
He swings the glaive back down toward Brunwulf and cuts deeply into the man's shoulder. Blood, black pus, and fire spray across the wall as the force of the blow drives Brunwulf's body to the ground.
There is no mention of persistent fire damage in the GM Screen, only the "infernal" persistent damage appears.
Earlier, the GM stated that it would take a spell attack roll of either Divine or Primal magic to counteract the wound magic.
I just checked, and Itka's magic is Occult; Zelphari's is Primal; and Ezaki's is Divine. It may be that only Zelphari and Ezaki can make a trained skill roll to counteract the magic; the rest of us are stuck with just our WIS modifier to help against the DC of 18.
No guarantees that I have this right, though. The GM will presumably correct anything I've screwed up.

Ok. I was a bit lost after running over the grates with flames. I thought Brünwulf was on fire!

Yes. The persistent damage is "Infernal."
There was recurring (from a source) fire damage, but I moved the devil so you're not hit by that this round.

Oh bother. I should have prompted you for Downtime Activity/Rolls yesterday. Please post your downtime now.
This will likely push your chronicles to tomorrow. My apologies.

Elfino decides to go back to his roots and takes on a few private commissions from rich clients involving the smuggling of certain high-value goods past the Absalom customs authorities.
Stealth (Underworld Lore): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 (trained)
If the DC if the Task is <= 15, then I believe this is a crit.
Please note: The Experienced Smuggler feat allows you to always Earn Income with Underworld Lore with tasks of your level -1 (instead of the normal level -2). Pretty sure this doesn't make any difference when the PC is level 1, like Elfino, but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

Itka forages along the way back, selecting herbs and fungi that aren't easy to find on the island of Absalom. Once there, she goes around to various herbalists' shops to sell her wares.

It's vs. task 0, right?

Awesomely fun game GM Blake & everyone! I hope to adventure with you all again!
What's up with the Diggen the Liar boon? Was he going to turn on us if we tried to release him into the afterlife?

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

That was actually one of the more enjoyable adventures I've played. Great GM and players make all the difference.
Don't know what's up with Diggen though. Maybe we'll find out in "a future scenario". The Infernal Detonations boon looks way more useful than the average scenario boon I've come across; I'll def be using it in future Elfino adventures.
No doubt we'll run into each other again in the future. I'll look forward to it.

GM Blake |

I think it's a little exaggerated to call the boon "Diggen the Liar." He keeps his word and leaves you in peace when you release him. The only lie is that he has no intention of going to the afterlife but wanted to explore the world (as a ghost).

All the sight seeing, none of the hotel costs. Not a bad way to do it. Pity he can't enjoy the local cuisine. Ah, well.
@GM Blake: So no that we've dealt with the tower, does the scenario say anything about whether Itka and Ezaki would've continued to have those nightmares in the forest? Did they fail a wisdom save to get them in the first place? Thanks for running this for us. It was a ton of fun!
I really enjoyed the flavor of this scenario, and the high stakes at the end. There was a bunch of good role play in this group, which is always fun. Keep up the good work everyone! I'll see you on the boards. :)

Removing Diggin from the tower—one way or another—ends the curse that kept the dead coming to life on the battlefield, which was the trigger for the nightmares. The scenarios instructs to relay a feeling of unease to “sensitive” types of characters and vivid nightmares to characters linked to mystical sources (I’m paraphrasing).

Elsha's chronicle is uploaded.
I'll inactivate the campaign tomorrow. For those who don't know, you can still access all the posts in the campaign after it's inactivated through both your main alias' campaign page or your character's campaign page. At the bottom it lists all inactive campaigns.
