As the townsfolk deal with the fire, and heal up the heroes,
"So, who are these brave souls that would volunteer to be heroes for Breachill?"
Please take the time to introduce yourselves to the town, and each other, as you really have not done that.
Note: Posting rate will be down until post-Gen Con

"Aye! I be ere' to rise up to the challenge! I am Ingraham of Clan Dovetal, the Wild Digger!", Ingraham declares and raises his shovel with a proud hand. "Let it be known that I come'ta shove off the buggers and be tougher than the toughies! My clan braved the Dark World below for generations, and we'aint gonna be scared of no challenge above!"
Ach! I hope that sounded good...

"I am Aragelda Silvernail, and I have come on a mission from the gods!"
Gosh, I hope my voice didn't quaver too much.
Are the townspeople healing us back up to full?
| Davian Runegleam |
Davian lets loose a smile of embarrassment as he nods his head. "Davian..." He stands up brushing the extra dirt from his torn pants. "Nothing heroic like the rest of these guys but I will go."
GM Silbeg
|
Yes, you will all be healed up before you leave
With Davian’s reply, Greta says, ”Nothing heroic, he says! After he risks his life to save people from Calmont’s fifes? You, who have lived at the edge of our society, who is willing to step up and once more risk life and limb.. That sounds heroic to me!”
The townspeople chuckle and cheer at that.
| Edjarha Aivot |
"I am Edjarha Aivot. I have come to this place to study, and to learn. It seems the time has come to act, however."
GM Silbeg
|
"Excellent! Thank you all for volunteering! I can offer you all a 10 gold piece reward for contacting the Brumblebrashers, and an additional 10 gold reward for bringing back Calmont alive.
"I would suggest you waste no time getting out there, as soon as you can collect your supplies. After all, there is an arsonist to catch!"
I'll give you all a chance to get any supplies you need, assuming you have any money available
| Gideon Rumblebottom |
Gideon is ready to head out
"Well hello, uhhh fellow heroes." Gideon speaks, clearly not quite comfortable with his newfound role. "Maybe it's ironic, or just fate, but the Bramblebrashers were the whole reason I came here in the first place. Not that I've met them before... Actually, I'll tell you the story along the way, I think I've got everything I need."
Ingraham Dovetal
|
”Is tha’ so? Well, mayhaps fate brought ye here for our chance meetin.” Ingraham gets another chocolate flavored ale before hitting the road. ”Oh, and if ye need, call me Graham.” He toasts his ale to the other adventurers, and then chugs it down. ”Ahhh, fine stout, that is!”
| Aragelda Silvernail |
Aragelda looks at the two coppers in her pocket. "I think I'm all set! Let's set out!"
Hi ho, hi ho...
Ingraham Dovetal
|
Hi ho, hi ho...
Its off to die, we go.. :P
| Edjarha Aivot |
"Hmm. I wonder what sort of stories these goblins have to tell? Let's go find out."
Probably more interesting ones than the people in town, so far.
Edjarha is ready.

Rising from the hilltop above is a looming structure of crumbling stone and still-imposing battlements, though verdant nature is reclaiming the site. Plumes of red smoke—which ambassador Warbal believes to be distress signals from the Bumblebrasher goblins—rise from the roof of the keep’s central tower. This place can only be Citadel Altaerein, the infamous former home of the Order of the Nail Hellknights, now fallen into ruin. The gate-like doors in the center of the keep hang ajar—not surprising, since no one has maintained this facility in years.
See slide #3 for the map of Breachill, and an image of Citadel Alterein. Slide #2 is the map of Citadel Alterein.

Some general details:
Due to crumbling walls, vines and shrubs growing and general neglect, the 10' around the citadel's walls are difficult terrain.
Unless otherwise notedf, the ceilings are 20' tall. Remember, this is a Hellknight citadel, and tall ceilings are imposing
Light inside will generally be dim light during the day.
| Gideon Rumblebottom |
Gideno nervously tries to decide between drawning his shortbow and his kukri, eventually deciding on the bow for now "Should we try calling out... II wonder what trouble the goblins could be in..."
Ingraham Dovetal
|
”Worth a try, lad.” Ingraham agrees. ”Does an’body else speak Goblin? I can, but I ain’ the best at makin’ pals.”
If no one with a positive diplomacy can speak Goblin, Ingraham will call out.
| Davian Runegleam |
Davian shakes his head. "Never really learned it." His eyes keep going further and further up the tower's walls. "It is so big, I'm not sure they would hear a siren through those walls."
GM Silbeg
|
Gideon yells out in goblin, but does to receive a response.
The citadel still sits there, looking imposing, even with its current disheveled state.
Ingraham Dovetal
|
"Well, that'ain good." Ingraham grimly acknowledges. He heads up to the doors ahead and tugs to see if it opens easily, clearly weary of the situation.

Ok, that was an officially lost post
Ingraham moves forward and is about to open the door, when he realizes that it is old and rusty, and would likely be very squeaky when opened.
Ingraham Dovetal

”These ol’ hinges will give us away. Do we wan’te scout another entrance or somethin?” He asks to the rest of the group.
GM Silbeg
|
I should point out that Citadel Alterein is about 1 mile from town, as the crow flies. However, the way up to it is a long road, that has many switchbacks, as it is quite a bit higher up in elevation into the foothills than the town, which lies in a valley.
| Edjarha Aivot |
"It might be nice to get the lay of the land before barging in. That said, if that shout didn't get anyone's attention, does it matter much how squeaky the doors are?"
Ingraham Dovetal

Returned from my time grieving, grandpa is finally at peace and the funeral is over. Back to gaming.
"Ay' s'pose your right, we already announced our entry. Plus, Ay'doubt any of us have oil."
Ingraham eases his way into the room, getting a look around, giving his eyes a moment to adjust to any lingering darkness and shadows in the entry hall. "Mmmmm... Well, Ay' did sign up for this. Lets go find us'sum danger."

Aragelda moves in behind Ingraham.
This is very creepy. Where is everyone?
| Edjarha Aivot |
Edjarha follows, scanning the walls and upper sections of the room. Can you tell us a little more about the room we see? How tall are the raised (?) sections, etc?
GM Silbeg
|
The large room beyond is a cluttered amalgamation of a formal receiving parlor and a ruined husk. Dented, rusted, and otherwise ruined suits of outdated Hellknight armor line the north and south walls; each display is leaning or entirely tipped over and missing its helmet, gauntlets, boots, or other pieces (these still-functional elements were looted long ago). Broken furniture is scattered about the area, as are what look like the half-chewed carcasses of several small prey animals. A wide but dirty stretch of black carpet leads to two large doors, one to the northwest and one to the southwest.
Scuffs on the walls indicate where valuable paintings or framed documents once hung. Prominently displayed on each wall is a seal depicting a sunburst made of nails, carved in relief and identical to the one above the front doors to this area. Toward the ceiling, running the length of each wall, is the same motto, but this time presented in matching lines of Common and the language on the inscription outside: “Savagery must be quelled in the land, home, and mind.”
However, as you enter in, you hear the growl of several creatures, as they come out of their nests in the corners of the room. See larger image

You recall that these are goblin dogs, which are not dogs at all, but rather large rodents that goblins use as pets. They are typically neutral medium animals. You know that they spread the very virulent disease, goblin pox, through their always present dander. This disease is known to make people extremely itchy, but is typically not fatal.
The green-tinged goblin dog moves up, and attacks Edjarha.
